KP governor administers oath to Opposition MPAs
PESHAWAR: The Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi administered oath to the newly elected members of the provincial assembly on reserved seats for women and non-Muslim. The oath-taking ceremony was held here at Governor's House on Sunday. After the adjournment of the proceedings of the KP Assembly in the name of the lack of quorum in an especially summoned session of the house for the purpose, the Chief Justice, Peshawar High Court (PHC) on a request of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in line with Article 255 (2) of the Constitution of Pakistan had nominated the Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to administered oath to newly elected members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on reserved seats for women and non-Muslims. PHC bars elected MPAs on reserved seats from taking oath A formal notification (No. 453-J) issued by the High Court Registrar directed that the oath-taking ceremony should take place at the earliest in accordance with the constitutional framework and prescribed legal procedures. The Governor has been tasked to ensure that the oath is administered in the prescribed manner and that official record is properly maintained. The court has also instructed the Secretary of the Provincial Assembly to facilitate the process by enabling the newly notified members to sign the Roll of Members as per Rule 6 of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Procedure and Conduct of Business Rules, 1988. A formal notification in this regard also issued on Sunday, and its copies were forwarded to key stakeholders including the Speaker and Secretary of the Provincial Assembly, the Election Commission, and the Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A ceremony to administered oath to women and non-Muslims elected on reserved seats is schedule at Governor's House today (Monday) at 9:00 A.M. The Treasury benches in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly created the issue of quorum to avoid the administering of oath to women and non-Muslims elected to the house against reserved seats. A special session of the provincial legislature was convened on the request of the Chief Minister to administer oath to the women and minorities' representatives elected on reserved seats to formally enrolled them as members of the house. But it could not happen due to the strategy evolved by the treasury benches, which is divided into two groups over the issuance of tickets by the party leadership, particularly by the jailed PTI founder Imran Khan. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly is going to elect 11 Senators and on the basis of its strength in the electoral college, it has fielded six candidates by issuing them party ticket. The candidates fielded by the ruling party include Murad Saeed, Noor-ul-Haq Qadri and Mirza Khan Afridi on general seats, Azam Swati on technocrat and Robina Naz on seats reserved for women. The Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur and joint opposition in the provincial legislature have already developed consensus on the distribution of seats by allowing the election of the five candidates of the later to the Senate. However, some PTI leaders Irfan Saleem, Khurram Zeeshan and Ayesha Bano, who had had filed nominations, but were denied tickets are not ready to accept the decision of the leadership and have come in the forefront of the leadership against the decision of the party. Though the session of the legislature was convened. However, the staying away from the house by the legislatures, particularly treasury benches braked it due to the lack of quorum in the house. As the house began proceedings with Speaker Babar Saleem Swati in the chair, a treasury benches member Sher Ali Afridi pinpointed the lack of quorum and the Speaker has to order the ringing of the bells to bring legislators to the house. But, in legislators did not turned up prompting the Speaker to adjourned the proceedings of the house till July 24,2025. Later, speaking informally in the house, the leader of opposition Dr Ibadullah said that how long will this continue? He said that a period of over on years has been passed, but the members are still awaiting their oath. He said that if the Speaker does not take the oath, then they will file a petition with the Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court to administer the oath to them. Earlier, while speaking to the media, Speaker Babar Saleem Swati said tha the oath-taking will take place whenever the assembly session is held, quorum in the house merely after entering the house. When asked regarding the delay in the oath-taking, the Speaker with a meaningful smile said that it will happen eventually. Copyright Business Recorder, 2025

Iran's missile arsenal remains largely untapped
Amid the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, a key question looms for military observers: Why has Tehran held back its most powerful missile capabilities—if it plans to use them at all? Despite intense airstrikes and the exchange of dozens of missiles, reports indicate that Iran still retains much of its advanced arsenal, suggesting the confrontation has yet to reach its peak. A strategic arsenal beyond conventional borders Iran possesses one of the most diverse and advanced missile arsenals in the region, spanning short-, medium-, and long-range systems. With sophisticated offensive capabilities, these missiles serve as a strategic asset of the highest order. Cruise missiles: Iran relies on cruise missiles with high speeds, low flight and manoeuvrability, making them difficult to detect and intercept. These missiles pose a serious threat, especially to vital military sites deep inside Israel. Khorramshahr-Khyber: The Khyber missile, the latest generation of the Khorramshahr family, has a range of up to 2,000 kilometres. It is designed to strike strategic targets in depth without the need for complex launchers, making it a crucial element in any pre-emptive strike or retaliatory response. Fattah 2: Iran claims to possess an advanced hypersonic missile called Fattah 2, which it says is capable of bypassing modern air defence systems and penetrating the atmosphere at high speed, with a range of up to 1,400 kilometres. Despite Western scepticism about its actual capabilities, this missile remains a constant concern in deterrence calculations. Qaseem: Known for its high accuracy, the Qassem is a solid-fuelled missile designed for rapid launch, which enhances the readiness of Iranian units to carry out immediate strikes without lengthy preparations. Zolfaqar Naval: In the maritime theatre of operations, the Zolfaqar missile stands out with its 700-1,000 km range and its ability to target military and commercial vessels, making it a key element in any attempt to impose a blockade or target maritime supply lines. Soumar: The Soumar missile has a range of up to 2,500 km and is characterised by its ability to fly at undetectable altitudes, which enhances the chances of penetrating air defences and reaching distant targets accurately. Ra'ad: Lightweight and quick to equip, the Ra'ad missile is a suitable weapon for lightning and surprise attacks, especially if the war takes on a tactical nature on the ground. Strategic messages Military experts point out that Iran's reluctance to use these missiles so far may not be a weakness but rather a part of deterrence calculations. Tehran realises that introducing these weapons into the confrontation could mean opening the doors to a full-scale war or provoking a wider international response led by the US. On the other hand, this arsenal may represent a political and military pressure card that the regime may use at a pivotal moment, whether to strike sensitive targets or to impose its conditions at the negotiating table at the end of the conflict.

Iran Israel war: Iran declared war against Israel in name of Haider and Khyber... what's the 1400-year-old connection...
Iran Israel war: Iran declared war against Israel in name of Haider and Khyber... what's the 1400-year-old connection... The Iran-Israel war seems to be taking a terrible form. Statements by US President Donald Trump and Israeli PM Netanyahu have already indicated this, but Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said in an Instagram post on the sixth day of the conflict that the war has begun. Khamenei wrote on Instagram, 'In the name of the great Heydar, the battle begins. Ali returns to Khyber with his Zulfiqar.' There is a possibility of uproar in Israel after this post. Ali Khamenei used 4 such words in his post, which have attracted everyone's attention. These include Haider, Ali, Zulfikar and Khaiber. Let us try to know the meaning of these words, their history and their relation with the recent war. Haider and Ali Haider is a name often used for Hazrat Ali, whom Shia Muslims consider the first Imam and successor to the Prophet Muhammad. He was a central figure in Islamic history and Sunni Muslims consider him the fourth Caliph. He was also the nephew of the Prophet Mohammed and the husband of his daughter Zehra Fatima. Ali means 'lion' in Arabic, symbolising strength, courage and leadership. The Supreme Leader's use of the word 'Haider' while declaring war is a reminder of Ali's legacy and is often used to garner support in times of conflict. Meaning of 'Zulfiqar' Ali Khamenei wrote in his post, 'Ali returns to 'Khyber' with his 'Zulfiqar'.' Zulfiqar is the double-edged sword of Imam Ali, which in Islamic tradition symbolizes divine justice, power and victory. It is often shown in posters and banners at Shia ceremonies and represents Ali's rule. Ali Khamenei's use of Zulfiqar in his post shows readiness for war and the imagination of Allah's help against enemies. It is also a symbolic declaration of strength and resolve. Khayber where Muslims defeated Jews Khayber is associated with one of the historic battles of Islam. The Battle of Khayber was fought in 628 AD, in which Prophet Muhammad and his followers led by Imam Ali defeated the Jewish tribes of Khayber in the Arabian Peninsula. The Battle of Khayber symbolizes victory over a dangerous and harmful enemy. Khayber of Arabia was a prosperous and strategically important area, which could pose a threat to Medina. The Jewish tribes here had strong forts and military resources. Prophet Muhammad and the Muslims attacked Khayber and took control of this area and ensured the safety of Medina, so that no other attack could happen in the future. Khyber's connection with today's war Iran is trying to portray the war between Israel and Israel as a war between Muslims and Jews. Iran attributes its hostility to Israel to the occupation of Palestine and the oppression of Muslims there. The third holiest mosque of Islam, Al Aqsa, is located in the occupied Palestinian city of Jerusalem. In Iran, 'Khyber' is often used as a code word for opponents of Israel or Jews, which reminds of the victory of Muslims over Jews in history and gives it a religious form.
