A look at Al Udeid Air Base, the US military site that Iran attacked
WASHINGTON (AP) — Iran retaliated Monday for the U.S. attacks on its nuclear sites by targeting Al Udeid Air Base, a sprawling desert facility in Qatar that serves as a main regional military hub for American forces. A U.S. defense official says no casualties have been reported. As of this month, the U.S. military had about 40,000 service members in the Middle East, according to a U.S. official. Many of them are on ships at sea as part of a bolstering of forces as the conflict escalated between Israel and Iran, according to the Washington-based Council on Foreign Relations research and policy center. Bases in the Middle East have been on heightened alert and taking additional security precautions in anticipation of potential strikes from Iran, while the Pentagon has shifted military aircraft and warships into and around the region during the conflict. The U.S. has military sites spread across the region, including in Qatar, Bahrain, Iraq, Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Syria and the United Arab Emirates. Here's a look at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar: Al Udeid hosts thousands of service members The sprawling facility hosts thousands of U.S. service members and served as a major staging ground for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. At the height of both, Al Udeid housed some 10,000 U.S. troops, and that number dropped to about 8,000 as of 2022. The forward headquarters of the U.S. military's Central Command, Al Udeid is built on a flat stretch of desert about 20 miles (30 kilometers) southwest of Qatar's capital, Doha. Over two decades, the gas-rich Gulf country has spent some $8 billion in developing the base, once considered so sensitive that American military officers would say only that it was somewhere 'in southwest Asia.' Trump has visited Al Udeid Trump visited the air base during a trip to the region last month. It was the first time a sitting U.S. president had traveled to the installation in more than 20 years. Al Udeid cleared its tarmacs Last week, ahead of the U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, Al Udeid saw many of the transport planes, fighter jets and drones typically on its tarmac dispersed. In a June 18 satellite photo taken by Planet Labs PBC and analyzed by The Associated Press, the air base's tarmac had emptied. The U.S. military has not acknowledged the change, which came after ships off the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet base in Bahrain also had dispersed. That's typically a military strategy to ensure your fighting ships and planes aren't destroyed in case of an attack. ___ Kinnard reported from Chapin, South Carolina, and can be reached at

Dave's inspiration for the proposal came when Kinnard expressed a desire to visit New York City. 'I was looking for inspiration on TikTok,' Dave exclusively tells PEOPLE. 'I saw the Rockefeller tree and I thought 'Oh that would be perfect.' ' He knew he wanted to propose by the end of 2024, and when Kinnard mentioned wanting to visit New York, he saw an opportunity to create a memorable proposal. Despite the obstacles, he managed to get Kinnard onto the ice. As the rink cleared, Beyoncé's song "Dangerously in Love" began to play. 'At first I thought it was a joke,' Kinnard tells PEOPLE. 'I don't even know why I said, 'Are you joking? Like, what's going on?' I just remember he started talking, and I was making sure I didn't fall and that's when the screaming started.' The proposal video, which Dave initially shared for friends and family, unexpectedly went viral on TikTok. The couple was overwhelmed by the positive response from viewers around the world. 'There have been so many kind words of people saying how it puts a smile on their face,' Kinnard says. For Kinnard, the proposal was a dream come true. Eagles OL Darian Kinnard won his third consecutive Super Bowl
The Chiefs weren't able to three-peat, but one of their former players was. Eagles offensive lineman Darian Kinnard won his third consecutive Super Bowl ring. Kinnard played in none of the three Super Bowls as he was inactive for two, including Sunday's game, and on the practice squad for the other. But he still took part in the celebrations and won the rings. The Chiefs made Kinnard a fifth-round pick in 2022. He played in one game as a rookie and then spent 2023 on the Chiefs' practice squad, seeing no action. He signed a futures contract with the Eagles last January and played two games with one start — the Week 18 win over the Giants — this season. The Eagles made Kinnard inactive for 14 regular-season games and all four postseason games. Former Pro Bowl linebacker Ken Norton Jr. also won three consecutive Super Bowls, winning back-to-back to with the Cowboys in 1992 and 1993 and then going to the 49ers, where he won a third consecutive. Kinnard, though, won his three in a row in his first three seasons. Norton's career began in 1988. Kinnard told Paul Schwartz of The New York Post that he keeps his Super Bowl rings in a safety deposit box. 'I guess I can say I'm kind of spoiled when it comes to that,' Kinnard told Schwartz.

Eagles lineman wins 3rd consecutive Super Bowl title
The Kansas City Chiefs failed to capture their third consecutive Super Bowl title on Sunday, but there was one player that added a ring to his hand for the third straight time. Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Darian Kinnard was the one who hit the jackpot. He served as the backup to tackle Lane Johnson, and with the team's Super Bowl LIX win, Kinnard won his third consecutive ring. Kinnard spent the last two seasons with the Chiefs and earned rings from their Super Bowl wins in 2022 and 2023. With the Eagles' win, he became the second player in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowl titles. The other was former linebacker Ken Norton Jr., according to On3 Sports. Norton played during the Dallas Cowboys' back-to-back title reign in the 1992 and 1993 seasons, then won his third with the San Francisco 49ers in 1994. The lineman talked to the New York Post before his pursuit of another ring. Kinnard said he was "spoiled" when it came to his winning ways. Kinnard, 25, was a standout offensive lineman at Kentucky before he decided to turn pro. The Chiefs selected him in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He made one appearance for the Chiefs in his rookie season and none in his sophomore season. Kinnard was assigned to the Chiefs' practice squad during the 2023 season, and the Eagles signed him on Feb. 20, 2024. The Eagles defeated the Chiefs 40-22 to win the franchise's second Super Bowl title. Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.
