Coronation Street fans ‘complain to Ofcom' as they struggle to watch ‘inappropriate' and ‘too violent' scenes
CORONATION Street fans have vowed to complain to Ofcom over scenes they claim are 'inappropriate' and 'too violent'. The ITV soap said goodbye this week to killer villain Mick Michaelis in a shocking storyline. 2 2 Killer Mick broke out of prison, intent on taking revenge on police officer and his former best mate Kit Green. He beat Kit up, leaving him fighting for his life in hospital. And then while hunting his children down in an attempt to flee, he threatened Sally Metcalfe as she tried to talk him down. The grim scenes however have left some fans feeling like they want to complain. One wrote: 'Those scenes with Mick are just not appropriate for a soap IMO. 'It was sickening to watch Mick always grab a tool of some kind and violently beat someone. 'Same with Lou. I had to put the sound down and fast forward because I don't get any entertainment from brutality.' A second said: 'This show is more violent and full of misery than most crime thrillers.' Another added: 'Can't forget about Mason too but to be honest the worst one was Rob beating Lisa up in the car, I thought that one was sickening to watch.' A fourth commented: 'I thought the blood shot with it dripping through the metal grated floor a bit much for a soap. 'Like something out of a slasher movie.' The storyline has led to the exit of actor Joe Layton as he finished his planned stint as Mick on the show.

Forgotten Coronation Street storyline set to revived as fans guess shocking paternity twist
A FORGOTTEN Coronation Street storyline could be revived as fans 'suss out' a shock paternity twist. Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) has become a major presence on the cobbles since arriving last year. 4 4 4 Viewers have already suspected he is the biological father of troublesome Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey). Writing online, fans have speculated another shock paternity twist for Kit - and it could tie into a "forgotten" mystery. One person penned on Reddit: "The DNA test hasn't been taken yet but I think Kit has already been confirmed to be the father of Brody. "Was he missing tonight bc he was taking the test? "How long will he have to wait for the results?" The online user then turned their attention to Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) - the daughter of Kit's police colleague Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers). They added: "Betsy's father/ the donor was brought up tonight. I know he was used as a lie, but it got me thinking. "Betsy is likely 17 now, so maybe in around a year, she'll want to learn more about him. "He's probably just a stranger, but if he were someone on the street, who could it be? "Kit would probably be the most likely guess, but he would've been 13/14 when Becky got pregnant. He's just a sperm donor most likely a randomer wanting to earn some money like Lisa said." Betsy is the biological daughter of Lisa's late wife, Becky Swain - who died in 2021. History of the Coronation Street set By Jake Penkethman, TV Reporter 1960-1968 - Whilst the Coronation Street set remained on Quay Street for 53 years, it actually had three separate studio sites. The first was an entirely indoor wooden set which was used for the first eight years of filming. This encompassed a replica of the Street built entirely indoors. The set was known to be awkward for actors to use and the houses brought to three quarter scale. 1968-1982 - In 1968, the addition of an outdoor set was created to adjoin the existing indoor set which was still used for filming right up until 1982. The set was used only when required with many of the show's cast reportedly hating it and describing it as 'the coldest place on Earth'. 1982-2013 - A brand new set was officially constructed in 1982 and was almost built fully to scale but still only permitted for one car to drive down the cobbled street. The house were purpose-built using reclaimed Salford brick in order to give it the most authentic feel possible. During these years, some of the show's buildings were adapted to allow for both interior and exterior filming at the same time. These locations included Elliott's Butchers, Barlow's Buys, Prima Doner and Webster's Autos. The final scenes to be recorded on this site occurred in December 2013. By early 2014, it began operating as a tourist attraction for around two years before ultimately being demolished and re-purposed in 2017. 2014-present - In early 2014, the show's set moved to the TV hub of the North - MediaCityUK in nearby Salford Quays. It is now located a stone's throw from major TV studio Dock 10 as well as the BBC's base in the North - home to Blue Peter, Newsround, BBC Breakfast and BBC Sport. The new set was even bigger and built to 9/10 the scale of a real street and allowed for two card to be travelling down the road at opposite sides for the very first time. The site has even undergone major expansions during its 10 years. Just four years after opening in 2018, a brand new set extension was unveiled which introduced viewers to Victoria Gardens for the first time in its history. The Weatherfield North tram stop also became visible as did a series of shops which became used as part of product placement advertising deals. Brands to have been seen on the Street so far include a Co-Op, a Costa Coffee and a branch of Hay's Travel. Four years later in 2022, another brand new set was unveiled, this time being the heavily mentioned Weatherfield Precinct. It became the first time in 62 years that the area had ever been seen on screens. It fearued a variety of shop fronts, a playground and a number of small flats which have begun to house more and more residents on the street in recent months. Since arriving in Coronation Street, she had a short-lived bond with reformed bully Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan). Although this ended in tragedy when Mason was killed off at the start of the year. Betsy has also adjusted to life with her mum's new partner, Carla Connor (Alison King). 4

AXED Coronation Street star has dropped a major hint that his character is not dead in a shock twist. Corrie's PC Craig Tinker might not be out for the count just yet - actor Colson Smith has teased his character could survive the brutal attack that left him motionless. 6 6 Fans of the ITV soap were left shocked as the beloved character was brutally attacked and left for dead in Monday's episode. Viewers got an upsetting insight into Lou's domestic abuse from Mick - which left the residents on the cobbles worried for Lou's safety. Meanwhile, Craig was determined to prove himself on the first day of his CID training. He pulled over Mick at the Weatherfield Precinct for drink-driving. Hellbent on getting revenge on Kit, Mick violently attacked Craig with a bat and left him for dead. However, the actor has hinted that his character Craig could be very much still be alive. Taking to X - formerly Twitter - Colson wrote: "He's just sleeping…" after the episode aired last night. One fan replied: "You better just be sleeping!! Sue Devaney - Debbie Webster In November 2024, we revealed that Debbie Webster is set to be killed off after 40 years on the cobbles. The character will die as part of a heartbreaking long-running dementia storyline. Charlotte Jordan - Daisy Midgeley The actress became the fifth star to leave Coronation Street in just one month. We revealed that she will bow out of the ITV soap later this year after four years on-screen. Charlotte told sources that she's hungry to see what other opportunities await. CORONATION Street's Kit Green's dark secret has been exposed - and he faces the ruin of his own life. The corrupt detective - who is played by actor James Roberts in the ITV soap - has had a connection to troublesome newcomers Mick and Lou. 3 3 3 And in today's episode it has been revealed. The three were pals as teenagers and while messing around with a shopkeeper, Kit felt aggrieved and took revenge by setting off fireworks in the locked shop after he left. However the man's wife was inside and Kit and Mick listened as she screamed in agony at the burns. Kit fled and Mick was caught and Kit let him take the blame - but now he's holding it over the cop and threatening to ruin his life and career. Mick decided to also torment Bernie but let slip a little too much in an effort to bulldoze their relationship too. But when Bernie walked in and demanded the truth, Kit buckled. He told her about Mick's blackmail and how he was going to ruin his life after all this time. And when Bernie asked what Mick had done - she was shocked that it was Kit who was responsible for the arson that left the shopkeeper with third degreee burns. He told his biological mum: 'I didn't even know he had a wife. She had these third degree burns and the screaming. 'I should've gone down for it. I shouldn't have been allowed to join the force anyway. Shock moment Coronation Street's David and Shona walk in on a NAKED Sarah and Kit - kicking off explosive row 'So I lied, and lied, and lied. Let my best mate take the wrap.' But that wasn't the only secret to emerge. While Mick was locked up for a crime he didn't commit, Kit compounded the wound by sleeping with his girlfriend Lou. And worst of all - that resulted in a child who Lou passed off as Mick's for all these years. Darkest soap storylines Over the years the likes of EastEnders, Emmerdale and Coronation Street have all tried to try outdo each other with their outlandish plots in a bid to keep us tuning in each week. But here are some of the darkest that had fans in shock... EastEnders: Tony grooming Whitney (2008-2009) - Tony King first appeared in Albert Square in 2008 as the boyfriend of Bianca, played by Patsy Palmer. But it was quickly revealed he was a paedophile who had been grooming vulnerable Whitney, Bianca's adopted stepdaughter from a previous relationship, since she was 12. The shocking storyline attracted more than 200 complaints within a week of it beginning. Whitney waited until her 16th birthday to reveal the truth to a horrified Bianca, who called the police. Emmerdale: Holly's drug addiction and shock death (2010-2016) - In 2010, Holly Barton (played by Sophie Powles) became Emmerdale's first teenage drug addict. The shocking storyline saw her taking cocaine on a night out before developing a deadly heroin habit. Parents John and Moira desperately tried to help get their daughter clean but when Holly returned in 2016, following a four-year absence, she quickly relapsed. Fans were left stunned and heartbroken when distraught Moira found Holly dead in her bed from a heroin overdose. Hollyoaks: Luke's rape (2000) - Actor Gary Lucy was just 17 when he took on this groundbreaking storyline, which saw his character Luke Morgan become soap's first male rape victim. Luke had endured a long-running bullying campaign by football rival Mark Gibbs - who raped him after Luke stood up to him. Luke was left suicidal following the brutal attack, before opening up to his brother Adam. Gibbs was sentenced to eight years in prison. Gary won the Best Actor gong at the British Soap Awards in 2000 for his performance. Coronation Street: Evil Richard Hillman (2001-2003) - Just a mere mention of 'Richard Hillman' is enough to send a shiver down the spines of soap fans. He is often ranked one of the most evil soap villains and it's not hard to see why. The smooth-talking financial adviser bashed his ex-wife Patricia over the head with a shovel. In a bid to keep his mother-in-law Audrey quiet, he set fire to her house. And when Maxine caught him trying to murder Emily Bishop, he took a crowbar to her head. He made his exit from the cobbles in 2003 when he drove Gail Platt, played by Helen Worth, and her family into the canal. They survived, but he didn't. With Brody released from the STC, Mick and Lou took him to Speed Daal to celebrate where Kit ran into them. He overheard Brody's age and realised that he is Brody's biological father. But what will Kit do now and how will Mick react to his on not bing his biological son?
