Axed Coronation Street star hints his character HASN'T been killed off and could make shock return to soap

The Sun20-05-2025

AXED Coronation Street star has dropped a major hint that his character is not dead in a shock twist.
Corrie's PC Craig Tinker might not be out for the count just yet - actor Colson Smith has teased his character could survive the brutal attack that left him motionless.

Fans of the ITV soap were left shocked as the beloved character was brutally attacked and left for dead in Monday's episode.
The much-loved Weatherfield resident was caught in a violent showdown, which left their life hanging in the balance.
Viewers saw Mick Michaelis go on a furious rampage after finding out that 16-year-old Brody might not be his biological son.
Mick turned violent as he demanded answers from wife Lou Michaelis about her past with their former pal, Kit Green.
Viewers got an upsetting insight into Lou's domestic abuse from Mick - which left the residents on the cobbles worried for Lou's safety.
Meanwhile, Craig was determined to prove himself on the first day of his CID training.
He pulled over Mick at the Weatherfield Precinct for drink-driving.
Hellbent on getting revenge on Kit, Mick violently attacked Craig with a bat and left him for dead.
However, the actor has hinted that his character Craig could be very much still be alive.
Taking to X - formerly Twitter - Colson wrote: "He's just sleeping…" after the episode aired last night.
One fan replied: "You better just be sleeping!! I'm gonna have a mega tantrum if you don't come back from this!!"
Another added: "If this is how you leave it's unacceptable, national tragedy #Corrie #coronationstreet"
A third joked: "Lazy bugger, sleeping on the job!!"
Wednesday's episode of Corrie will see Craig rushed to hospital and desperately try to make his police colleagues aware of who was responsible for attacking him.
Corrie cash crisis: shock exits for 2025
ITV bosses are locked in a battle to save the cash-strapped soap.
This means that a number of stars have either been axed from or have abandoned the long-running serial drama.
Colson Smith - Craig Tinker
The character of Craig Tinker has been axed by bosses after 14 years. After he was told of the news in Autumn 2024, Colson Smith confirmed that would be written out of the show with scenes to air later this year. Craig's on-screen mum, Beth Tinker, also left the show in the summer when actress Lisa George was written out from the role.
Sue Cleaver - Eileen Grimshaw
After 25 years playing Eileen Grimshaw, former I'm A Celebrity campmate Sue Cleaver will quit the show. The Sun on Sunday reported in January that she's already begun to film her exit scenes. However the character will not be killed off in case Sue opts to make a return in the future.
Luca Toolan - Mason Radcliffe
Bosses decided to axe the teenage character after just 16 months after he first joined the show. Recent scenes saw Mason stabbed by his criminal brothers after his pal Dylan brought a knife in an attempt to defend him.
Sue Devaney - Debbie Webster
In November 2024, we revealed that Debbie Webster is set to be killed off after 40 years on the cobbles. The character will die as part of a heartbreaking long-running dementia storyline.
Charlotte Jordan - Daisy Midgeley
The actress became the fifth star to leave Coronation Street in just one month. We revealed that she will bow out of the ITV soap later this year after four years on-screen. Charlotte told sources that she's hungry to see what other opportunities await.
Shelley King - Yasmeen Metcalfe
The actress has played Yasmeen Metcalfe on the cobbles for the past 11 years and we revealed in January that she finished filming her final scenes. This follows the departure of her on-screen partner Stu Carpenter.
Colson said: "I can't wait for people to see Craig's final scenes. It is exactly the exit I wanted for him and we are all really proud of what we filmed in those final weeks.
"It was actually great fun. I was walking around covered in fake blood for days and I was chuffed that I got to work with so many brilliant people in this final storyline."
Back in March, The Sun revealed how Colson's character Craig would be killed off in a dramatic storyline.
A source told us: "Craig has grown up on the street and he's become part of it so it was a tough decision to make but one that will be worth it.
"PC Tinker will meet his maker in heroic circumstances this summer and there won't be a dry eye in the house when it goes out.
"Colson is taking it well and there's a real feeling that this chapter is closing for him and there are bigger and brighter things ahead."
The 26-year-old actor was one of several stars who have been axed from the ITV soap.
Corrie is gearing up for a number of exits for some iconic characters this summer, including Eileen Grimhshaw is set to exit the cobbles with actress Sue Cleaver quitting the soap after an incredible 25 years.
The soap has already seen several characters depart the cobbles from the likes of Daisy Midgeley to Mason Radcliffe.
ITV is facing a financial crisis due to soaring production costs, a decline in advertising revenue, and a drop in viewing figures, leading to budget cuts and cast departures.
Consequently, the broadcaster is reducing the length of both Coronation Street and Emmerdale episodes from hour-long to 30-minute installments, starting in January 2026.
This change will create a "soaps power hour" where Emmerdale airs at 8pm, followed by Coronation Street at 8:30pm each weeknight.
But with ratings falling and viewers switching to streamers like Netflix, more soap stars are fearing the axe - should they be worried?
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 or stream from 7am on ITVX.

BBC Archive: Doctor Who: The Legend of Omega

As season two of Doctor Who draws to a close and the Doctor once again faces not just the Rani, but Omega too, BBC Archives takes a look back at the creation of the character of Omega and his previous encounters with the Doctor. "Omega? But that's impossible. Omega was destroyed." The Doctor (1973) Omega first appeared in the 1973 story The Three Doctors – the first multi-Doctor story in the Whoniverse. The character took a while to develop, as can be seen in these letters from Doctor Who script editor Terrence Dicks to story writers Bob Baker and Dave Martin. This first letter shows that the character of Omega (at this stage named 'Ohm') and the setting of the anti-matter universe he lives in were established early on in the story writing process. As plans for the story progressed, Terrence Dicks continued to correspond with writers Bob Baker and Dave Martin. He suggests that they could create three different aspects of Ohm "to match the three Doctors ", although "the most evil Ohm would finally gain the upper hand". By the time The Three Doctors was seen on screen Ohm had become Omega, the powerful temporal engineer of Time Lord mythology. No wonder the Rani would seek him out for her plans. "Without me, there would be no time travel" Omega (1973) The imposing figure of Omega was originally played by statuesque actor Stephen Thorne. Stephen had previously appeared in the Doctor Who story The Dæmons as the equally towering Azal. He was an actor known for his great voice as well as his height, and could be often heard on BBC radio in addition to his appearances on television. The character of Omega returned to Doctor Who in the 1983 story Arc of Infinity, now played by Ian Collier, where he still hoped to escape the anti-matter universe. In Arc of Infinity Omega tried to use Time Lord technology to give himself a new physical form, copying that of the Doctor, and so was briefly also played by Peter Davison. "Things could have been different. Power, and the greatness of Omega, could have been yours." Omega (1983) Omega returned to Doctor Who in The Reality War having become the god the Time Lord legends created. This time there was no mask wearing actor inside a suit, but the whole character was created by CGI. But the Doctor was still able to force him to remain trapped in the Underverse, maybe to meet again some day, because legends never really die.

EXCLUSIVE Emmerdale star reveals the moment she learned about Robert Sugden's 'wild' return after THAT shock wedding reveal

Emmerdale star Isabel Hodgins has revealed the moment she first learned that Robert Sugden would be making a surprise return to the soap. In a return that has left fans stunned, Robert crashed his ex Aaron Dingle's wedding to John earlier this week, with the former flames quick to reignite their sizzling chemistry. And speaking to MailOnline at the Soap Awards, Isabel, who plays Robert's sister Victoria, has shared the exact moment she discovered Ryan Hawley would be coming back to the show after a six-year break. She said: 'I found out because Danny [Miller] knew, and Danny and I are very good friends, and we talk and he said ''can you keep a secret?''... so that's when he blabbed to me, in the New Year, and then I just pretended I knew nothing. 'It's gonna be impactful and it's gonna be a big rumble, and people are gonna love it.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the Daily Mail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Asked how Victoria will react to Robert's return, Isabel added: 'I think she's gonna be conflicted because she's got a heart of gold, and now she's got two brothers to love who ultimately love the same person, and John's a really nice guy, Robert's not! 'So whose the better fit for Aaron. It's a tricky one isn't it, so she's going to have to navigate that so good luck for her!' Of course, viewers are aware of John's murderous behaviour since he entered the village, and have been eagerly waiting for the moment his crimes are exposed. Aaron also remains blissfully unaware, and despite Robert's return, he decided to go ahead with his wedding to John. It remains to be seen when John's web lies will catch up with him, and when grilled about how things will play out in the coming weeks, Isabel was noticeably tight-lipped. She added: 'I don't know, but he's so good, so subtle at how much of a bad guy it is, so I think it would be nice to eek it out a bit more, how much of a mess are his lies gonna get him.' Hinting fans are in for a 'wild ride,' the actress added: 'She's obviously got to get to know Robert all over again, and then I also think they've got things to sort out, there's a little bit of guilt there because the reason he's in prison in the first place is kind of because of her, so you've got to unpack that.' The best and brightest in serial drama were in attendance for the British Soap Awards on Saturday, with the ceremony set to be broadcast on ITV on June 5. It was the BBC 's EastEnders that cleaned up on the night with eight awards while Hollyoaks received three, Emmerdale two and Coronation Street only one. They kicked off their wins with Best Episode which went to Phil's Psychosis: The Mitchells In 1985. EastEnders also won Scene of the Year for Angie Watts' Shock Return while Navin Chowdhry won Best Villain for his role of Nish Panesar. Steve McFadden, who plays fan favourite Phil Mitchell, won the Best Dramatic Performance award while Patsy Palmer won Best Comedic Performance for her role as Bianca Jackson. Rudolph Walker & Angela Wynter (Patrick & Yolande Trueman) delivered another win for EastEnders as they won Best On-Screen Partnership. Lacey Turner, who plays Stacey Slater, won the Best Leading Performer Award and EastEnders also won the most coveted award of all: Best British Soap. Hollyoaks' three awards started with Isabelle Smith who won Best Newcomer for her role as Frankie Osborne. The Osbornes then won the Best Family award while Hollyoaks' sibling sexual abuse storyline received the Best Storyline award. Emmerdale's Amelia Flanagan won Best Young Performer for playing April Windsor while camera operator Mike Plant took home the Tony Warren Award which is given to employees working behind the scenes. Coronation Street's sole gong of the night was the Outstanding Achievement Award which went to David Neilson who has played Roy Cropper for 30 years. The British Soap Awards will air on Thursday, June 5 at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
