FPS meant to supply ration to all card holders: Minister
Rajamahendravaram: The coalition government is committed to ensuring that welfare schemes reach every eligible beneficiary in a satisfactory and timely manner, said Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Cinematography, Kandula Durgesh. Speaking at Sathivada village in Undrajavaram mandal on Sunday, where he inaugurated the distribution of essential commodities through fair price shops, the minister announced that the Mobile Dispensing Units (MDUs) have been scrapped and ration distribution is being reintroduced through traditional ration shops. He stated that this decision was made after recognising the hardships people faced under the MDU system. 'From now on, poor families will receive uninterrupted access to essential commodities. Ration goods will be available for 15 days each month through fair price shops. Special arrangements are being made to deliver supplies to the homes of persons with disabilities and the elderly aged above 65,' he said. The minister added that the government has launched this statewide initiative as a prestigious mission. He criticised the previous government for policy failures that disrupted the regular supply of rations to the poor, pointing out that MDU vans delivered ration goods only to limited points, forcing the elderly and the differently abled to struggle for access. 'This issue was seriously discussed in the Cabinet, leading to the decision to restore fair price shops. The Opposition is trying to mislead people with misinformation on this reform,' Durgesh said. He assured that issues surrounding ration card issuance are being addressed and that beneficiaries can now make corrections or modifications to their cards. He urged cooperation from officials, the public, and ration dealers to ensure the success of the new system. Strict action will be taken against dealers who misuse the rice meant for distribution, he warned. He also promised that the concerns of ration dealers would be resolved quickly and announced the establishment of a new stock point at Tanuku for dealers in Undrajavaram and Peravali mandals. The minister said that of the 3.4 lakh metric tonnes of paddy approved for procurement across East Godavari district, 1.2 lakh metric tonnes were procured from Nidamarru constituency alone. He said that high yields in some areas have left surplus paddy, prompting discussions with Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar to procure an additional 10,000 metric tonnes. Banking guarantee norms have also been eased for millers, he added. Despite his state wide ministerial responsibilities, Durgesh affirmed his continuous efforts to address local issues. He promised to remain accessible through the camp offices in Rajamahendravaram and Nidadavolu. Speaking at the event, district joint collector S Chinna Ramudu said that ration goods will be distributed to 5,64,994 cardholders through 870 fair price shops across the district. Former MLA and newly appointed Chairman of State Skill Development Corporation Burugupalli Sesharao, RDO Rani Susmitha, and Civil Supplies Officer MRR Prem Kumar also participated in the programme.

Jagan Mohan Reddy objects to supply of ration goods through fair price shops
YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has opposed the government's decision to supply ration through the fair price (FP) shops instead of mobile dispensing units (MDU). In a post on X on Sunday, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy said the government's decision would create hardship to the poor. 'The government is pushing onto the road nearly 20,000 BC, SC, ST and minority people, who rely on the 9,260 MDUs introduced by the YSRCP government,' he said. The TDP had promised to pay ₹10,000 per month to the volunteers if it was voted to power. Soon after coming to power, the government withdrew their services. In the name of rationalisation, the government was acting with a vengeance against the village and ward secretariats. Village Clinics, family doctor services, and RBKs were weakened, he said. 'People are facing serious difficulties in getting government services. Due to this foolish move, their difficulties have increased further,' he alleged. Moreover, 20,000 employees who depended on these vehicles had been hit hard, he said. They were not shown any alternative, he added. In all, three lakh people, who included 2.6 lakh volunteers and those laid off in the AP Beverages Corporation and AP FibreNet, lost their jobs, he said. 'Only Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu can destroy so many families in a year of rule,' he added.

Andhra Pradesh govt reverts to fair price shop format to supply ration, Jagan hits back
Pithapuram , The TDP-led NDA government in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday reverted to the old format of supplying rations through fair price shops and YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy slammed the administration for the move. Recently, the N Chandrababu Naidu-led government scrapped doorstep delivery of rations through Mobile Delivery Units introduced by the erstwhile YSRCP regime. "Beneficiaries can now collect rations from any fair price shop, not just the registered dealer. Home delivery is arranged for over 15 lakh senior citizens and differently-abled persons," said Civil Supplies Minister N Manohar in an official release. The initiative covers over 1 crore families statewide, allowing ration collection from any nearby fair price shop, "improving convenience and accessibility for beneficiaries across the state". The minister alleged that the previous government misused nearly ₹17,000 crore of public funds under the name of home ration delivery. Manohar asserted that about ₹385 crore worth of public funds will be saved through distribution through ration shops, with dealers being monitored using technology and a dedicated app for transparency. Rejecting the allegations, YSRCP chief Reddy, in a post on 'X', said: "Naidu has been showing a vindictive attitude towards the operators of MDU who were delivering the ration at the doorstep of the poor." He noted that before YSRCP's tenure, people allegedly suffered discrimination, poor quality rations, and had to forgo wages while waiting in queues at public distribution shops. The former chief minister further said that during his Padayatra in 2017-19, people shared their hardship in getting ration. The YSRCP government launched door delivery of quality rice to ensure transparency and eliminate longstanding malpractices across villages, he said. Scrapping MDUs has worsened public woes, risking the livelihoods of 20,000 families , he claimed. Reddy said that the MDU system helped even during calamities, and halting it would reopen the gates for malpractice and ration-related irregularities among the needy. The YSRCP chief also alleged that Naidu promised to give increments to around 33,000 Village and Ward Secretariat staff from ₹5,000 to ₹10,000, but failed. According to the government, ration shops will operate from 8 AM to Noon and 4 PM to 8 PM, including Sundays, ensuring continuous supply and easing public access to essential goods.

All set for ration distribution at fair price shops from today
Vijayawada: All arrangements have been made for the distribution of ration from June 1 at the fair price shops in the State. The State government has decided to stop the use of Mobile Dispensing Units (MDU) which were used to deliver the ration near the residences of the ration card holders and restore the fair price shops. Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar will launch the distribution of ration from the fair price shops in Pithapuram on Sunday. As per the orders, ration will be distributed from 1 to 15 every month from morning 8 am to 12 noon and again from 4 pm to 8 pm. Ration card holders can visit the nearest fair price shop to take the ration. The government has decided to deliver the ration at their homes to the senior citizens aged above 65 years and physically challenged. A total of 15,74,057 people both senior citizens and disabled will get ration at their homes. Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar said people can visit their nearest fair price shop and get ration due to portability. He instructed the 29,796 fair price shop dealers to display the stock, price and other information. He instructed the dealers to clearly display the phone numbers of the officials of the revenue, legal metrology and civil supplies department at their shops. Manohar alleged that earlier in the YSRCP rule, ration was not distributed properly and Mobile Dispensing Units (vans) were halted near the residences for a brief time and many people could not get the ration. He said people now need not wait at their homes for the ration and they can visit the nearest fair price shop to get ration as per their convenience. He said irregularities in distribution of ration can be prevented with halting of MDU vehicles in the State. Deputy Chief Minister K Pawan Kalyan in a statement said the previous government has purchased Mobile Dispensing Units at a cost of Rs 1,600 crore and distributed ration for only one or two days in a month. He said people faced hardships due to non-availability of ration. He said the coalition government has conducted a detailed inquiry on the diversion of PDS rice and caught the rice stocks at the ports in Kakinada and Vizag.
