EastEnders exposes tragic Martin Fowler secret in early iPlayer release

spoilers follow for Tuesday's episode (April 8), which is available to watch now on streaming service BBC iPlayer and hasn't yet aired on TV. EastEnders has exposed a tragic secret about Martin Fowler, following his emotional funeral – and Ruby Allen isn't happy. Walford's residents came together to say goodbye to one of their own in yesterday's episode, but that morning Stacey arrived back in Albert Square drunk, after staying with her brother for a few weeks. Lily confronted her mum about her behaviour, and Stacey ended up slapping her daughter. The teen ran off and ended up missing the funeral, choosing to drink with Avani instead. Back in the Square, in today's episode, Ruby remarked on the speech Stacey gave at Martin's graveside, annoyed about her heartfelt words. Related: Best streaming services Stacey found Lily and told her she would regret missing her dad's funeral, and the pair ended up in another painful row. Rejecting Eve's concerns, Stacey headed to the allotment, where she found Ruby sitting in the shed. Ruby asked Stacey again if Martin told her he loved her before he died, and her fears were finally confirmed. Ruby felt foolish that she had imagined her and Martin's future when he really loved Stacey, admitting that she had always known his heart was elsewhere. Related: She also admitted that she had told Martin not to go back into The Vic to save Stacey after the explosion as she knew it was unsafe. Their heartfelt conversation turned into a tense argument, with Ruby even questioning the basis of their friendship as young girls. Ruby gave Stacey some home truths, making it clear that she was done with both her and Martin. Stacey and Lily made amends and finally felt able to grieve together, while Ruby continued to feel isolated and stood by Martin's stall while drinking. Related: That evening, Stacey thanked Eve for her support at home – but she got a huge shock when she looked outside and saw Martin's fruit and veg stall on fire. Stacey rushed outside and could only look on in horror as Martin's pride and joy burned to the ground. Who was responsible for this spiteful act? Coronation Street's Sue Devaney reveals big decision over Debbie story: 'I don't want to know'

Coronation Street star Sue Devaney has explained the decision she made regarding Debbie Webster's dementia storyline. Debbie has started to show signs of the memory loss disease, with the story set to culminate in her exit, despite fan outcry. In order to more accurately portray real life, and to make things more exciting for her as an actor, Devaney has asked soap bosses not to let her known plot details in advance. "I have decided that I don't want to know what is coming up for Debbie," she said. "I want to wait for the scripts because in real life you don't know what is coming. I think it's more interesting to play it like that." She also explained what research she did for the storyline, stating that: "I've spoken to my friend who works with dementia patients. She's got a clinic where she sees patients with early onset dementia so I speak to her a lot. "We have been working with Dementia UK, when we had our initial meeting they told me a lot about the tests you have to do and how you are diagnosed with it and where you go from there." Related: Best film and TV tours for 2025 The actor added that Debbie feels incredibly scared when the specialist refers her to the memory clinic, after initially thinking she was just going through the menopause. "It makes her think it's something more serious," she said. "Menopause is a scary time for any woman, with hormones all over the place and doing bizarre things. It changes your brain. Related: "I spoke to a support worker from Dementia UK, and she said many women think it's just menopause and don't get tested, even though the symptoms can be similar, like brain fog, but on a much bigger scale with dementia." According to a press release, this storyline will unfold "over the coming months and years", so Debbie may not be going anywhere anytime soon. Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX. Emmerdale drops show scriptwriter after real-life domestic abuse case

Note: This article contains discussion of domestic abuse. Emmerdale has dropped one of its scriptwriters after he appeared in court charged with abusing his real-life partner. Leeds Live reports that writer Martin Fustes made violent threats toward his partner and behaved in an "angry and aggressive way". Hull Live further reports that the court heard the woman was afraid that she was "going to die" during one particular late-night incident in which Fustes began suffocating her. Related: The writer has reportedly admitted assault and causing actual bodily harm at Hull Crown Court, as well as an offence of intentional suffocation. His former partner is reported to have said in court that this incident followed over a decade of abuse, saying: "I struggle to feel safe in my home... The disruption he has caused in our lives has been significant." Fustes has been given a two-year suspended prison sentence and a 10-year restraining order, while he must also pay compensation and complete unpaid work and rehabilitation. An Emmerdale spokesperson confirmed that Fustes is no longer working on the soap, saying in a statement shared with Digital Spy: "We were shocked and appalled to learn about the recent court case involving Emmerdale writer, Martin Fustes. Related: "Mr Fustes is a freelance writer and he has been informed that he will no longer be writing for Emmerdale. "Everyone at ITV and Emmerdale abhors domestic abuse, which is why we have been highlighting the issue in a major storyline over the last 12 months. The Emmerdale production team were not aware of these charges against Mr Fustes until we were alerted over the weekend." Fustes has been writing scripts for Emmerdale since 2014 and has written over 170 episodes of the soap in that time, with his most recent episode airing in February. Related: Domestic abuse was a major Emmerdale plotline throughout 2024, as Tom King subjected his wife Belle to physical and emotional abuse and coercive control. Fustes wrote the episode which featured Tom's trial, which aired in December. Despite Tom's attempts to disrupt the trial, Belle bravely went ahead with testifying against her husband and Tom was sentenced to three years in prison. Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX. Hollyoaks' Arlo makes shocking claim about Diane's accident

follow for the latest episode to air on E4. This article contains mention of suicide and transphobic bullying that some readers might find upsetting. Hollyoaks has aired another twist in the Arlo Fielding bullying storyline, as he made a nasty claim about Diane Hutchinson. Previously, Diane accidentally slipped over in the bath and was rescued by Tony Hutchinson before anything bad happened. Related: In tonight's episode, she told Tony that she hadn't relapsed and the wine she was drinking was a one-off, and not the reason why she was unconscious in the bath (she tried to reach for the window to close it). The two then wondered about how they would afford Ro's solicitor fees with the new expense of the water damage. When Ro Hutchinson popped into The Hutch on the way to school, Arlo mentioned Diane's accident. Diane then lied to him and said she fell asleep in the bath due to exhaustion. "Ro, this has nothing to do you. It was just a stupid accident that could have happened to anyone at any time," she tried to reassure him. Marie Fielding invited Ro and Diane to stay with them while the flat in the pub is being repaired, promising not to tell anyone due to it breaking Ro's bail conditions. Related: While Tony was cooking a family meal, Arlo took the opportunity to make Ro feel even worse. "I don't know what she told you, but she tried to top herself last night," he lied. "And who can blame her? Having a freak of a daughter like you." The episode ended with Ro looking like he believed Arlo, and was devastated by what he heard. The episode did have a lighter moment for Ro, as it hinted that there may be a mutual attraction between him and best friend Kathleen-Angel McQueen. Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm.
