Ex-NFL Coach Jon Gruden Reacts to Jaxson Dart's Giants Debut
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Former NFL head coach Jon Gruden is a fan of Jaxson Dart. After the New York Giants' rookie threw his first touchdown pass in Saturday's preseason action, Gruden took to social media to express the fact that he's supporting Dart's future as a quarterback in the NFL. via @BarstoolGruden: DART! Let's go Jaxson, rooting for you!! DART! Let's go Jaxson, rooting for you!! — Jon Gruden (@BarstoolGruden) August 9, 2025 Like many, Gruden showed plenty of excitement for Dart, who flashed plenty of positives in his first NFL game, following an impressive run at Ole Miss last year. "Me and [LJ Humphrey] have been connecting a lot during camp and whatnot. He's been a great contested catcher on go balls. I liked my matchup one-on-one, and he was able to win over the top, and made a great play," Dart said regarding his first and only touchdown pass in Saturday's game. More Bryan M. Bennett/Getty Images "[He did] about what I thought he would do," Giants head coach Brian Daboll said of Dart. "Efficient, effective, aggressive, confident in the pocket. Some stuff we could work on, but he's doing good. ... He's tough. He's got moxy. He's got toughness. He's got leadership." Dart was the second quarterback to hit the field for the Giants on Saturday. The team surprisingly started Russell Wilson after declaring he would be the team's QB1 at the beginning of the regular season. Being in the NFL since 2012, Wilson seemed like a candidate to get the afternoon off, considering his loads of experience. That wasn't the case. Wilson checked in to go 6-7 from the field, throwing for 28 yards. When Dart came in, the rookie threw 19 passes, completing 12 of his attempts. He totaled 154 yards and a touchdown. On the ground, Dart showed off his wheels by rushing three times, producing 24 yards. "I felt good. I felt good about it," Dart said after the game. "It was kind of my first time doing a silent cadence in a road game atmosphere. We did have a few pre-snap penalties that we got to grow on and continue to improve on those things, but I was happy overall about it. I was really happy with how our O-line played. I don't think we had a sack all game if I'm right. They played amazing, and I was happy with our operation." The Giants defeated the Bills with a 34-25 victory. Dart had a successful day, giving the Giants a lot to look forward to next week, when they take on the New York Jets for their second set of preseason action. NFL Fans Sound Off on Dak Prescott's Bold Cowboys Claim
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Coming off an injury-filled season, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is feeling confident. The veteran passer has a lot to prove after his team struggled mightily through the 2024 NFL season. This year, Prescott is thinking of the NFC Championship at least. As the Cowboys' QB1 shook hands with the owner of the Los Angeles Rams before the Cowboys-Rams preseason battle on Saturday, Prescott reportedly told Stan Kroenke that the Cowboys would meet the Rams in the conference title game. via @MikeLeslieWFAA: Dak Prescott shook hands with Rams owner Stan Kroenke, and then told him "We'll meet y'all in the NFC Championship." TWEET NFL Fans React to Prescott's Comments via @SnipeMyles: He's aware the NFC Championship takes place after the divisional round right? @BraidedSochan: The rams will be playing. The cowboys will be at the meet and greet. @RealTJS2: Is Dak getting traded? @christpreme: Nice of him to support another team in the championship game! @david_nolewajka: Is he buying tickets to the game? Dak Prescott #4 of the Dallas Cowboys talks with NFL owner Stan Kroenke before the NFL Preseason 2025 game between the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium on August 09, 2025 in Inglewood, California. MorePrescott didn't suit up for Saturday's preseason opener for the Cowboys. Although he's back to being healthy again, the Cowboys will ease Prescott back into the mix. Last season was a difficult start to a major contract extension for Prescott. After signing a four-year contract, worth $240 million, Prescott battled through an injury halfway through the year. By November, he would undergo surgery and missed the remainder of the season. While Prescott's absence was certainly a major blow for the Cowboys, the veteran passer was struggling through his first eight games of action prior to the setback. Prescott had a 3-5 record, completing just 64 percent of his passes for 1,978 yards, 11 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Prescott's follow-up to an MVP-caliber year was certainly disappointing. Without him, the Cowboys missed the playoffs. Heading into the 2025 NFL season, Prescott clearly feels confident as he's feeling healthy again. Dallas helped their franchise quarterback by adding another weapon in the passing game with former Pittsburgh Steelers standout wide receiver George Pickens. Despite Prescott getting healthy again, along with the new additions, NFL fans clearly aren't too confident in the Cowboys heading into the 2025 NFL season. History doesn't bode well for Prescott's Cowboys. They've had some successful regular seasons, making the playoffs seven times since 2016. However, they are just 2-5 in the postseason since the Prescott era kicked off. Their 2023 playoff run ended in one game after a 12-5 year. Dak Prescott caught making bold Cowboys prediction before preseason game with Rams
Dak Prescott has Texas-sized ambitions for the Dallas Cowboys. And depending on which extreme you're on, you either love or loathe the confidence coming from the long-time Cowboys signer caller. The star quarterback made headlines following the team's preseason opener against the Rams by boldly predicting a matchup between the two teams in the NFC Championship game this season. 3 Dak Prescott #4 of the Dallas Cowboys talks with NFL owner Stan Kroenke before the NFL Preseason 2025 game between the Cowboys and Rams at SoFi Stadium on August 09, 2025 in Inglewood, California. Getty Images Despite hardly being a team reasonable pundits are picking to make the postseason, Prescott unabashedly believes Dallas is destined for greatness in 2025. Before the game, Prescott was seen shaking hands with Rams owner Stan Kroenke, during which he confidently said, 'We'll meet y'all in the NFC Championship.' And, of course, it was caught on camera. The Rams aren't exactly viewed as NFC favorites, but they are expected to have a good season given that their over/under sits at 9.5 wins, compared to Dallas' 7.5, per DraftKings. Of course, this could be along the lines of something Prescott cordially says to any opponent during the preseason about a potential playoff or Super Bowl meeting, we just happened to get this one on video This declaration stands out not only for its audacity but also because the Cowboys have not reached the NFC Championship since the 1995 season, marking the longest current streak in the NFC. Despite a disappointing 7–10 record in 2024 — largely due to Prescott's midseason hamstring tear, along with CeeDee Lamb's prolonged injury battles — the Cowboys appear unshaken. The Rams, on the other hand, are coming off a strong 2024 season, advancing to the NFC Divisional Round. 3 Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb laugh on the sidelines during the second quarter in a NFL Preseason 2025 game between Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium on August 9, 2025 in Inglewood, California. Getty Images 3 Dak Prescott is entering his 10th season with the Dallas Cowboys. Getty Images They're also nearly the favorites to win their division, just narrowly behind the San Francisco 49ers, while the Cowboys considerably trail both the defending champion Eagles and the 2024 surprise Commanders. The 32-year-old Prescott threw for 1,978 yards last season, as well as 11 touchdowns to eight interceptions. Notably, the three-time Pro Bowler agreed to a $240 million extension before last season and is signed with the team through 2028.

Giants Open Four New Chapters With Red-Hot Preseason Debut
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. We've only seen one New York Giants game. It won't count towards the team's 2025-26 regular-season win-loss total, but at least it was encouraging and drew smiles. Big Blue walked into Highmark Stadium and walked out the winners of a 34-25 victory over the Buffalo Bills. A trio of veteran G-Men (Russel Wilson, Tommy DeVito, and Jameis Winston) combined for 163 yards and two touchdowns on 23/32 passing, but their rookie signal-caller is one of the more talked about discussions as New York puts a bow on the first preseason affair and begin looking forward to their second test vs. the crosstown NY Jets. Quarterback Jaxson Dart, the future Michael Hoecht #55 of the Buffalo Bills attempts to tackle Jaxson Dart #6 of the New York Giants during the first quarter of an NFL Preseason 2025 game between New York Giants and Buffalo Bills... More Bryan M. Bennett/Getty Images Jaxson Dart's Giants debut didn't claim the type of headlines that Shedeur Sanders earned, but it was impressive nonetheless. He completed 12 of 19 passes. He racked up 154 yards and tossed a TD en route to a 106 rating. Dart also collected a team-leading 24 yards on three carries, showcasing his dual-threat ability. The plan is well-known. Russell Wilson is this team's starter, but they may have something in this Dart fellow. They may have found something in the form of wide receiver Lil'Jordan Humphrey though. The former undrafted free agent (2019) will need to leapfrog a couple of guys to make this roster, but he did himself a solid vs. Buffalo. There's a growing chemistry developing between him and Jaxson Dart, and that was again proven with him being on the receiving end of Dart's touchdown pass. JAXSON DART FIRST TD PASS IN THE NFL. Lil'Jordan Humphrey on the other end! Watch on @NFLNetwork Stream on @NFLPlus — NFL (@NFL) August 9, 2025 Mike Kafka, assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Big Blue's fans have waited to say and hear this for a while, but the G-men may have an offensive worth watching. Kafka added the 'assistant head coach' title to his resume last season. It's one game. It doesn't count, but things certainly have gotten interesting. Offensive tackle James Hudson, the man being talked about for all of the wrong reasons The Giants have certainly invested heavily into their offensive line, but they have yet to see a return on that investment. This sad story continues with James Hudson. He was brought in with hopes that he'd adopt a swing tackle role. We're off to a very bad start here. Hudson signed a two-year, $12 million deal during the offseason. He comes with both attitude and baggage. He'll make this roster, but seeing him assessed with a false start and holding call has led to conversations about an ugly start to his Giants tenure that he didn't need. More News: ESPN's All Quarter Century NFL Team Has a Giant-Sized Mystery The Giants' 100th season didn't go as planned, but even though there are huge hills to climb, there seems to be reason to look forward to the 101st. They'll need to conquer the reigning champs in Philly, but while they're attempting to do so, there won't be any shortages of talking points.
