Matt Pinfield Comes Out of a Coma After Suffering Massive Stroke: 'Guys, I'm Alive'
The post Matt Pinfield Comes Out of a Coma After Suffering Massive Stroke: 'Guys, I'm Alive' appeared first on Consequence. Former MTV host Matt Pinfield has come out a coma after suffering a massive stroke back in January. The music personality shared the great news with The Hollywood Reporter, declaring, 'Guys, I'm alive!' Pinfield, who hosted MTV's influential alternative-rock program 120 Minutes in the 1990s and again during a revival in the early 2010s, had been in a coma for roughly two months. He has now been released from the ICU, and is currently rehabilitating at a facility in Los Angeles. 'I'm recovering and am going to come back swinging. I was unresponsive for two months,' he further told The Hollywood Reporter. 'Friends were thinking they were coming to see me for the last time. The doctors never expected me to speak or to walk again.' As Pinfield mentioned, there was a prevailing thought that he would not survive, as he also battled pneumonia and was put on a ventilator during the ordeal. When he woke from the coma, he immediately started talking music. 'My friends said I went on talking about 'A Whiter Shade of Pale' and how they couldn't keep up with what I was saying,' he said. 'They were, like, 'Yeah, he's still got that brain.'' Pinfield is itching to get back to work, once he makes a full recovery. He hosts a couple of programs on Los Angeles radio stations, and is the co-host of the AXS TV show The Power Hour. 'I'm definitely going to take some time to recover,' remarked Pinfield. 'Then I'll do my radio shows again and get back to work doing what I love, which is to entertain people playing music.' While he was in a coma, his daughter Jessica filed for temporary conservatorship over her father, requesting that she handle his health and finances amid concerns that others may take advantage of the situation. 'She's the one who saved my life,' said Pinfield. 'She protected me.' Pinfield also expressed gratitude to all the musicians and peers who supported him while he was in the ICU. 'I want to say how great grateful I am for all the people that that were wishing me well,' he said. 'The love of the community helped me get through this.' Among the people who supported Pinfield was Garbage singer Shirley Manson, who wrote on social media, 'He has championed so many artists over the decades who would have otherwise been ignored by mainstream media and the American music scene would be very different indeed without his taste and influence.' Pirate Bay Co-Founder Carl Lundström Dies in Plane Crash
The post Pirate Bay Co-Founder Carl Lundström Dies in Plane Crash appeared first on Consequence. Swedish businessman Carl Lundström, a co-founder and financial backer of the file-sharing site The Pirate Bay, has died in a plane crash. He was 64. As reported by The Independent, the prominent member of the far-right Alternative for Sweden party was traveling from the capital of Croatia, Zagreb, to Zurich, Switzerland when the small plane he was piloting crashed into the Slovenian mountains. On Tuesday, Alternative for Sweden released a statement confirming the details of Lundström's death, praising him as a 'legend and veteran of Swedish nationalism.' From 2003 to 2005, Lundström sold the services of his company Rix Telecom and provided equipment to The Pirate Bay, which housed a BitTorrent index allowing for copyrighted music, movies, software, and books to be widely — and illegally — spread across the internet. During a 2009 trial, Lundström was found guilty of 'accessory to breaching copyright law' alongside Frederik Neij, Gottfrid Svartholm Warg, and Peter Sunde. They were each sentenced to one year in prison and ordered to jointly pay 30 million SEK (approximately $3.5 million) in damages. Lundström's appeal brought his sentence down to four months, but their fine was increased to 32 million SEK. Outside of The Pirate Bay, Lundström has been active in Swedish far-right politics since the '80s. Most recently, he ran in the 2021 elections for Church Assembly as an Alternative for Sweden candidate. Alternative for Sweden is a far-right, nationalist party that was founded in 2018 by expelled members of the Sweden Democrats. Its political stances include the mass deportation of immigrants, a call to withdraw from the European Union, and bans on same-sex adoption and same-sex marriage. Lundström was also the heir to Swedish crisp bread producer Wasabröd, as reported in Metro. Gene Simmons Charging $12,500 To Be His Personal Assistant and Roadie for One Day
The post Gene Simmons Charging $12,500 To Be His Personal Assistant and Roadie for One Day appeared first on Consequence. Gene Simmons is set to embark on tour dates with his solo band, and he's offering his fans a dream job: the chance to be his personal assistant and roadie for a day. The only catch is that you have to pay him. The KISS legend kicks off his Spring US tour with his solo band on April 3rd in Anaheim, California (get tickets here). The exclusive meet-and-greet fan experience runs a whopping $12,495 and is available to only one big spender per concert date. Get Gene Simmons Tickets Here Simmons has always been vigorously entrepreneurial, so it's not too surprising to see him offer a package in which he gets paid five figures for the extra help. That said, the description on his website doesn't sound like too much work. Those who take the dive on the fan package can bring one guest and will be 'on the GS Band Team Crew for the entire day,' first meeting up at the hotel to go over the day's plan. You will share a meal with Gene (at the hotel or backstage), help with load in, sit in on soundcheck, hang out backstage, and Simmons will bring you out onstage at some point during the show. The experience also has some physical swag, including a signed setlist and other items, a VIP backstage laminate, a crew hat/shirt, and a signed Gene Simmons bass used during a KISS rehearsal, which at least somewhat justifies the gargantuan $12,500 price tag for the experience. There is also a 'bass only' experience for about half the price that doesn't include the assistant/roadie commitments. Visit Simmons' website for more details. Flea Is Making a 'Trumpet Record' with Help from Nick Cave
The post Flea Is Making a 'Trumpet Record' with Help from Nick Cave appeared first on Consequence. Nick Cave has revealed that he has contributed to a 'trumpet record' being made by Flea, describing the collaboration as a 'reconciliation and an apology' for his past comments about Red Hot Chili Peppers. 'Last week, Flea sent me a song and asked if I'd like to add some vocals,' Cave wrote in the latest Q&A on his Red Hands Files website. 'It was for a 'trumpet record' that he is making. It is not for me to divulge what the song was, only that it is a song I cherish more than most, with arguably the greatest lyric ever written, a song of such esteem that I would never have dared to sing it had Flea not asked me to.' Get Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds Tickets Here He added, 'I went into the studio on Wednesday and recorded my vocals. The track emerged as a beautiful conversation between Flea's trumpet and my voice, filled with yearning and love, the song transcending its individual parts and becoming a slowly evolving cosmic dance, in the form of a reconciliation and an apology.' As a refresher, a quote attributed to Cave has been passed around for the past few decades, in which he purportedly said, 'I'm forever near a stereo saying, 'What the fuck is this garbage?' And the answer is always 'The Red Hot Chili Peppers.'' In the newsletter, Cave copped to making an 'offhand and somewhat uncharitable remark' about the band 'about twenty-five years ago,' though 'there was no malice intended.' Cave then recalled Flea posting a 'profoundly generous and open-hearted love letter' making it clear he was still a fan. This prompted Cave to realize the bassist was a 'human being of an entirely different calibre.' Eventually, Cave tested the waters by asking Flea to put together a children's choir from his Silverlake Conservatory of Music to accompany the Bad Seeds at Coachella 2013. Roughly one decade later, Flea joined Cave and Warren Ellis onstage in Los Angeles to play 'We No Who U R.' Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds will head out on a North American tour beginning in April, which will once again see Radiohead's Colin Greenwood filling in for bassist Martyn Casey. 2,000 Free Instruments Given to North Carolina Hurricane Victims
The post 2,000 Free Instruments Given to North Carolina Hurricane Victims appeared first on Consequence. On Sunday, March 9th, a charity drive at Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa, North Carolina gave away more than 2,000 free musical instruments to North Carolina hurricane victims, as reported by WLOS. A riverside community outside of Ashville, Swannanoa was hit particularly hard by the devastating Hurricane Helene. In response, the WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour organized the massive instrument giveaway in an effort to assist those affected. The team, including the program's host Michael Johnathon, spent months collecting donated instruments from 36 different drop-off locations in spots like Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia, and even Texas and New York. 'We haven't forgotten the situation of folks affected by Helene,' Johnathon said prior to the event. 'You are the comfortable rocking chair of America's musical front porch. So many people donated violins, guitars, cellos, banjos, trumpets, and more. The response has been phenomenal.' As the first-come, first-serve distribution day arrived, the team's stock of instruments had surpassed 1,600 in total. Then, in the days leading up to the event, an additional 200 instruments were donated, according to local coverage from WNC's Fiasco Media. That number only continued to climb thanks to additional donations gathered by young bluegrass up-and-comer Wyatt Ellis, who helped bring in more than 100 additional pieces of equipment. Following Sunday, the organizers announced that all of the donated gear had ultimately found a home. The event served as Johnathon's third instrument drive, and while it was intended to help Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee residents in particular, no recipients were required to provide proof of residence or additional information. Even months after Hurricane Helene has subsided, relief efforts in affected areas continue to be of incredible importance. Last year, a number of efforts from various artists aimed to provide funding for relief, including charity compilations and sizable donations from folks like Dolly Parton and Metallica.
