Lollapalooza's weird, wild history
The first-ever show of the first-ever Lollapalooza tour took place on July 18, 1991, on a 120-degree day in the Arizona desert. It was so hot that Nine Inch Nails' equipment melted, and Trent Reznor, front man of the then-baby band, stormed off dramatically after trashing the stage ('Fire everyone,' he instructed a roadie). Dave Navarro and Perry Farrell, members of headlining band Jane's Addiction, came to blows during their set; no one was sure they'd make it to the next date of the six-week nationwide tour. 'Lollapalooza: The Uncensored Story of Alternative Rock's Wildest Festival' is a riotous oral history of the granddaddy of alterna-tours, written by music journalists Richard Bienstock and Tom Beaujour.

Bauhaus' Peter Murphy Unveils New Song 'Swoon' Featuring Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor: Stream
The post Bauhaus' Peter Murphy Unveils New Song 'Swoon' Featuring Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor: Stream appeared first on Consequence. Peter Murphy of Bauhaus has teamed up with Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor for the new song 'Swoon.' The track hails from Murphy's forthcoming solo album Silver Shade and pairs a dance-punk beat with Murphy's ominous vocals. The throwback '80s production befits both the goth-rock pioneer and his collaborator, Reznor, who provides a 'welcome vibe,' as Murphy put it. Get Nine Inch Nails Tickets Here 'I am both in the state of swoon as are my audience when witnessing my live performance,' said Murphy in a statement. 'Trent Reznor cordially accepted my invitation to appear on the song, adding a welcome vibe on the second verse, as well as throughout the entire song in the form of backing vocalizing.' Silver Shade is due out May 9th via Metropolis Entertainment and was produced by Youth (aka Martin Glover) of Killing Joke. Further details have yet to be released, though Murphy called the record 'as powerful as any of my work to date.' Another recent collab released last year, 'Let the Flowers Grow' featuring Boy George, is a potential inclusion on the LP. As for Murphy and Reznor, the connection goes back to NIN's early days, when Reznor and company opened for Murphy's Deep tour in 1990. Meanwhile, Nine Inch Nails recently announced their 'Peel It Back World Tour,' kicking off with a UK/European leg in June, followed by a North American leg in August. Pick up tickets here.
