Face-to-face programme flooded with requests for more Indiramma houses in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Applications for Indiramma houses within the Greater Hyderabad limits flooded the face-to-face programme conducted by BC welfare and city in charge minister, Ponnam Prabhakar, at the Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday. A majority of the people who came to the programme were from the state capital, with a few from neighbouring districts. The people urged Ponnam to sanction Indiramma houses and requested that he ask the chief minister to increase the quota of Indiramma houses for the poor in the city. The state govt sanctioned 3,500 Indiramma houses for each of the 119 assembly constituencies in the state in the first phase of the programme. Speaking to TOI, Ponnam Prabhakar said there was a lot of demand for housing in Greater Hyderabad and the Congress govt was committed to ensuring that every eligible poor family gets an Indiramma house in a phased manner. "Lakhs of applications were received during the Praja Palana programme for the Indiramma housing scheme, but field-level inquiries and document verification by the officials revealed that only 18,000 families have house sites (land). by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Council or Housing Association Tenant? The minister received over 100 petitions, in addition to grievances and requests submitted orally to him during the face-to-face programme, which was revived after a few months. The programme was stopped midway without any reasons given, but sources in Gandhi Bhavan said it was due to MLC elections and other factors. It has been revived now after TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud spoke to the chief minister and also AICC in charge Meenakshi Natarajan. The AICC in charge also participated briefly in the face-to-face session and interacted with the people about the problems they were facing in getting their grievances addressed by the officials. Applications for jobs, loans for self-employment schemes, resolutions to land encroachments and disputes, new ration cards, inclusion of names on existing cards, allocation of pending allotment of 2-BHK houses, inclusion of names in the free electricity scheme, and other welfare programmes were submitted to the minister. A delegation of the Telangana Udyama Karula Forum told TOI that they urged Ponnam Prabhakar to remind the TPCC president and the CM about the Congress election manifesto, which promised a house site and a monthly pension to those who fought for statehood. They urged Ponnam to speak to the CM and ensure that a committee is constituted to identify all such Udyama Karulu. "It is not only about the monthly honorarium and house site, but mainly about acknowledgement that we fought and achieved statehood. The govt should give us a memento or certificate, which we will display in our houses and offices as a mark of pride and self-respect that we were at the forefront of the statehood agitation," said forum leader Taduri Gagan Kumar.

20 lakh more individuals to receive ration card benefits in Telangana

HYDERABAD: In a significant development ahead of the Telangana Formation Day celebrations, the state government has reportedly cleared a massive backlog of food security card applications, adding nearly 20 lakh new beneficiaries to the public distribution system (PDS). The decision is being seen both as an administrative milestone and a political move. According to official sources, over two lakh new ration cards have been approved, which will benefit a total of five lakh individuals. Additionally, applications for expanding family units under existing cards have been cleared, covering around 15 lakh more people. The Civil Supplies department is said to have conducted a comprehensive field-level verification process before the final approvals. This development pushes the total number of ration cards in the state from approximately 89.97 lakh to 92.28 lakh, with the number of beneficiaries rising from 2.81 crore to 3.01 crore — an increase of nearly 20 lakh individuals. The timing and scale of the ration card clearances are politically significant. In the lead-up to the 2023 Assembly elections, the then-opposition Congress had strongly criticised the BRS government for allegedly stalling the issue of new food security cards. The Congress government now appears to be eager to expedite the process of issuing new cards. The sanctioned cards are part of the party's Praja Palana initiative — a citizen-outreach programme launched soon after the Congress formed the government — which solicited public grievances and applications across a wide range of welfare schemes. The government also facilitated online applications through MeeSeva centres, a move aimed at streamlining access and reducing bureaucratic delays. Beyond expanding coverage, the Congress government has also introduced qualitative improvements. Unlike the previous BRS regime, the current administration started supplying superfine variety rice through ration shops. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is expected to officially announce the clearance of these applications during Telangana Formation Day celebrations on Monday.

Telangana government not sincere in fulfilling its declarations, says Harish Rao

HYDERABAD: Finding fault with the Congress government for failing to implement earlier declarations and coming out with a new one, BRS leader and former minister T Harish Rao alleged that the government lacked sincerity in fulfilling its promises. In a statement on Monday, Harish Rao criticised Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who claims to hail from Nallamala, for allegedly ordering arrest of tribals while simultaneously announcing the Nallamala Declaration. 'Is this what you call Praja Palana?' Harish Rao questioned. He said the public was angry with the government for not honouring its assurances. 'Farmers are in a pathetic situation, forced to make repeated rounds to banks due to the government's failure to waive crop loans,' he said. He added that farmers who lost their crops at procurement centres or due to hailstorms were looking to the government for support. Harish Rao further pointed out that women were still waiting for the promised Rs 2,500 monthly support under the Mahalakshmi scheme. Parents of unmarried girls were awaiting the one tola gold, and girls were yet to receive the two-wheelers promised to them. Unemployed youth were eagerly waiting for notifications to fill two lakh government jobs, while students were hoping for Rs 5 lakh cards under the Vidya Bharosa scheme. He alleged that pensions had not been disbursed to physically handicapped persons, and government employees were still waiting for their DA installments and the implementation of the Pay Revision Commission. 'The government hasn't even absorbed RTC employees into regular government service,' he said. Harish Rao also criticised the chief minister for being inconsistent in his statements. 'The chief minister, who recently claimed that the state was bankrupt, is now saying that Telangana ranks number one in tax collections,' he said. 'Even the chameleons in the Nallamala forest are shocked at how frequently Revanth Reddy changes his colours,' he quipped.

10 years of plunder by BRS impacted welfare schemes: Dy CM Mallu Bhatti

MAHBUBABAD: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Tuesday alleged that the BRS was against the people-centric government and that's the reason it was hatching conspiracies against the Praja Palana of Congress. Addressing a public meeting at Lakshmi Narasimhapuram in Yellandu constituency, Vikramarka accused the BRS of plundering the state during its 10-year rule, because of which the benefits of schemes like farm loan waiver, Indiramma housing and Rajiv Yuva Vikasam did not reach the people. Despite financial constraints, the government has been implementing welfare schemes worth thousands of crores without placing any burden on the people, he said and emphasised that more welfare initiatives will be introduced in the near future. On May 18, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy will be launching the Indira Giri Solar Water Development Scheme with an objective of supplying irrigation water to six lakh acres, benefiting around 2.1 lakh tribal farmers, he said. 'Indiramma houses will be specially allocated in tribal areas,' he added. During the previous Congress regimes, tribal farmers were granted land rights under the Forest Rights Act. But in the last 10 years, when they attempted to cultivate those lands, they were brutally assaulted. Even women were tied to trees and beaten up, he said. 'To instil confidence in tribal farmers, the Congress-led Indiramma government is launching the Indira Solar Giri Water Development Scheme at Chenchu Colony in Achampet of Nagarkurnool district at an estimated cost of Rs 12,500 crore. Plans are on, in coordination with the Horticulture department, to ensure tribals earn income every three months,' he said. 'Under this scheme, solar-powered pump sets, sprinklers and plants such as avocado and oil palm will be provided to tribal farmers,' he added.
