Anti-drug campaign launched in Irinjalakuda
Aiming to create a drug-free Irinjalakuda, the campaign 'Madhuram Jeevitham' (Life is Sweet) was officially launched by Minister for Higher Education R. Bindu on Sunday. Speaking at the inauguration, the Minister emphasised that the initiative goes beyond anti-drug awareness, targeting a broader spectrum of social dangers affecting the youth today. 'There is an urgent need to address the rising trend of violence and destructive behaviour among young people,' Dr. Bindu said. 'This campaign integrates creative, community-driven programmes that can reach the grassroots, encouraging youth to embrace the sweetness of life and view it with positivity and purpose.' The campaign includes the formation of vigilance committees at every level, strengthening of counselling services, and organising awareness drives in local bodies, industries, and institutions. The Minister called on the support of NSS volunteers, Kudumbashree members, and other grassroots forces to lead the anti-drug movement. She also directed all educational institutions in the Irinjalakuda constituency to form vigilance committees by June 26, alongside conducting competitions and awareness activities. The launch event featured a pledge against drug abuse, lighting of a unity lamp, anti-drug songs, and thematic dance performances. The event was presided over by Irinjalakuda Municipal chairperson Marykutty Joy.

She was addressing the valedictory session of the Ente Keralam Exhibition and Trade Fair here on Saturday, held in connection with the fourth anniversary celebrations of the Left Democratic Front government. Dr. Bindu said the government had taken great strides to ensure land, housing, education, healthcare, employment, and basic amenities for all under a development model rooted in social justice. 'It is a matter of pride that this government has succeeded in implementing such people-centric development programmes,' she said. 'Over 4.52 lakh homes have been constructed under the LIFE Mission, with constructions ongoing to surpass five lakh beneficiaries. Land titles have been distributed to four lakh people. Internationally benchmarked public health and education services were made widely accessible. Minister for Revenue and Housing K. Rajan, who presided over the event, described the expo as a transparent progress report of the government, open to the public without any exaggeration or filters. The event served as a platform to showcase Kerala's development model to the world, he said. Held at Thekkinkadu Maidan, the seven-day exhibition drew massive crowds. Higher education curriculum will prioritise employment, research: Kerala Minister
The Kerala government's approach to higher education stresses both employment readiness and research excellence, says Minister for Higher Education R. Bindu. She highlighted that the introduction of four-year honours degree programmes was a step in this direction. The Minister was speaking at a seminar titled 'Career Planning and Management' organised by the Higher Education department as part of the Ente Keralam exhibition and expo. 'Students should have the freedom to learn according to their interests,' she said, adding that institutions like ASAP (Additional Skill Acquisition Programme) were offering skill development courses in cutting-edge fields, including Artificial Intelligence. 'Kerala's new educational vision is a response to the need for a knowledge economy and aims at finding solutions to contemporary challenges using intellectual capital,' the Minister said. V.P. Jagathy Raj, Vice-Chancellor of Sreenarayanaguru Open University, delivered the keynote presentation. Winners of the Ente Keralam-themed quiz were felicitated.
