Egypt signs vaccine production agreement with UAE's Al Qalaa, China's Red Flag
Egypt's Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with UAE-based Al Qalaa Investments and China's Red Flag to expand its capacity in human and veterinary vaccine production and develop plasma-derived therapies, the Ministry of Health announced on Monday. Health Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the agreement supports Egypt's national strategy to attract foreign investment, localise biotechnology industries, and advance scientific research and innovation under the country's Vision 2030 sustainable development framework. The partnership aims to position Egypt as a regional hub for vaccine manufacturing and exports—particularly to African and Arab markets—while ensuring self-sufficiency in critical vaccines and plasma-based products. Sherif El-Fil, CEO of VACSERA, described the deal as a major step toward transferring advanced vaccine manufacturing technologies to Egypt. He said it would secure the domestic supply of safe, effective vaccines and open new export opportunities. El-Fil added that the collaboration will also strengthen VACSERA's capabilities in plasma processing and biopharmaceutical production, reinforcing its role as a key regional player in the vaccine industry. Egypt, Cuba explore expanded cooperation in pharmaceuticals, vaccine technology
Egypt's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, met on Monday with Cuban Ambassador to Cairo, Alexander Pellicer, to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in the healthcare sector, with a particular focus on pharmaceutical manufacturing and vaccine technology, according to an official statement. The meeting, held at the Ministry's headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, highlighted the deep-rooted historical ties between Egypt and Cuba. Abdel Ghaffar described the cultural and human bonds between the two countries as a strong foundation for building strategic partnerships that serve shared development goals. Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar stated that the talks centred on supporting joint ventures in pharmaceutical production, sharing expertise, and promoting technology transfer—key priorities aligned with Egypt's Vision 2030 and its broader sustainable development objectives. The discussions also touched on potential cooperation in developing treatments for chronic health conditions such as diabetic foot complications and kidney disease. This aligns with Egypt's efforts to localise the production of critical medicines and improve the quality of healthcare services. The two sides reviewed ongoing joint projects between Cuba and Egypt's Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA), including the transfer of vaccine production technologies for meningitis and pentavalent vaccines, as well as wider collaboration in the field of biotechnology. Ambassador Pellicer reaffirmed Cuba's commitment to expanding cooperation with Egypt in health, scientific research, and pharmaceuticals. He also commended Egypt's recent healthcare reforms and its proactive approach to building international partnerships.

India's charge d'affaires hails growing relations with Egypt
CAIRO, Jan 26 (MENA) – India's Charge d'Affaires in Egypt Ms C. Sushma highlighted the strong and evolving relationship between Egypt and India during a reception held to celebrate India's Republic Day. The event was attended by Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat. Ms. Sushma commended Egypt's pivotal role as a gateway for Indian businesses to access African and European markets. Indian investments in Egypt now total nearly $4 billion, creating 38,000 jobs and boosting Egyptian exports by $1.5 billion, according to her. She also noted the success of joint healthcare initiatives, such as the production of 70 million vaccine doses in Egypt through the partnership between VACSERA and India's Serum Institute. In education, she highlighted that over 2,000 Indian students are currently enrolled in Egyptian institutions, reflecting the growing bilateral focus on youth and skill development. Educational ties are also flourishing, with over 2,000 Indian students enrolled in prestigious Egyptian institutions like Al-Azhar University and Cairo University, she pointed out.
