Izzat Shameer and Li Jane crowned Perak sportsman, sportswoman
IPOH: National lawn bowling athlete Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple and national tenpin bowling athlete Sin Li Jane were crowned Sportsman and Sportswoman respectively at the 2023/2024 Perak State Sports Awards (ASN) Ceremony here tonight. The Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah graced the event, presenting the awards to Izzat Shameer and Li Jane. Also attending the ceremony was the Raja Permaisuri of Perak Tuanku Zara Salim. Others present were Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and his wife Datin Seri Aezer Zubin as well as Perak Education, Higher Education, Youth and Sports Committee chairman Khairudin Abu Hanipah. Izzat Shameer helped the national lawn bowling squad by bringing home four gold medals at the 16th Asian Lawn Bowls Championship and the 14th Asian Under-25 (B-25) Lawn Bowling Championship in Clark, Philippines in April. Li Jane ended the 2024 campaign in style when she became the first Asian bowler to be named Player of the Year on the Professional Women's Bowling Association (PWBA) Tour of the United States (US). She earned the award after winning four titles, namely the US Women's Open, Tour Championship, Journal Rockford Open and Greater Nashville Classic. Both athletes took home medals and a cash incentive of RM7,000. Beach volleyball athlete Low Jeng Yih and swimmer Joelle Chang Zu-Ee were also named Promising Sportsman of the Year and Promising Sportswoman of the Year respectively, while two cyclists Mohamad Yusof Hafizi Shaharuddin and Nur Suraya Muhammad Zamri were named the Best Male and Best Female Athletes. Also receiving awards were cycling coach Hishamuddin Mohd Zaki in the Coach category, Datuk Seri Puhat Mat Nayan (Sports Leadership), Mohd Jamil Zakaria (Memorable Service), Mohamad Ayob Kamarudin (Sports Family), Razif Rosli and Mohd Fitri Azman in the media category, Perak Bison (best team) while the Perak State Golf Association received the Sports Association Special Award. This time, the Perak ASN offers 13 nomination categories including the Sportsman, Sportswoman, Sportsman of Hope, Sportswoman of Hope, Best Team, Best Coach, Sports Leadership, Sportsman of Hope, Sports Family, Media, Best Male Athlete and Best Female Athlete. For the first time, a new category has been introduced, namely the State Sports Association Special Award to recognise excellence in the leadership and management of the association which is an important pillar in the development of state sports. Meanwhile, Saarani in his speech said the Perak State Sports Council (MSN) had pioneered several important initiatives, including the Perak Podium Programme (P3) which was introduced in 2017, the Atlet Kita Juara Programme which nurtures the potential of the country's natives as well as various grassroots development efforts. He also said a total of 202 potential athletes were currently under the auspices of the Perak Podium Programme in preparation for higher-level tournaments. Izzat, Li Jane named Perak Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year
IPOH: National lawn bowler Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple and tenpin bowler Sin Li Jane were named Perak Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year for 2023/2024. Each received a trophy and RM7,000 in cash, presented by the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, during the Perak Sports Awards ceremony held at Hotel Casuarina, Meru. The Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim, also graced the occasion. Also present were Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and the State Education, Higher Education, Youth and Sports Committee chairman Khairudin Abu Hanipah. In 2023, Izzat Shameer, 33, was ranked the world's No.1 male lawn bowler according to the World Bowls Series rankings, following his gold medal victory in the men's singles event at the Asian Lawn Bowls Championship. Meanwhile, Li Jane became the first Asian to win the Professional Women's Bowling Association (PWBA) Tour Player of the Year title, joining an elite group of past winners that includes legends Lisa Wagner and Wendy Macpherson. In his speech, Saarani said these accomplishments proved that Perak not only contributed to the nation's sporting development, but also consistently fostered excellence, resilience, and international achievement. "With a rich legacy filled with triumphant moments, Perak has continually produced world-class athletes – priceless gems forged through discipline and determination. This blessed state remains a constant source of inspiration in shaping sporting icons who elevate Malaysia's standing on the global stage." To maintain this momentum and nurture future generations of athletes, Saarani said the Perak State Sports Council (MSN) had introduced several key initiatives. "Among them is the Perak Podium Programme, launched in 2017, as well as the Atlet Kita Juara Programme, which identifies and nurtures local talent. These are complemented by grassroots development efforts that serve as fertile ground for the emergence of future stars." Currently, 202 high-potential athletes are enrolled in the Perak Podium Programme as they prepare for high-level competitions. Saarani said that MSN Perak continued to prioritise both athlete welfare and character development, in order to preserve the state's sporting reputation in a holistic manner. "We hope these efforts will be further strengthened across all levels of sports leadership, with clear and strategic planning to produce more Perak-born athletes capable of excelling on the world stage. This includes providing world-class infrastructure and coaching, incentives for sporting excellence, and the advancement of sports science." IPOH, July 13 (Bernama) -- The Perak Sports Carnival (SUPER) 2025 is the perfect platform to unearth new talent for the Perak contingent for the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026 in Selangor. State Education, Higher Education, Youth and Sports Committee chairman Khairudin Abu Hanipah said the choice of sports contested in SUPER 2025 - table tennis, volley ball, basket ball, hockey, archery and sepak takraw - was made based on several factors, including the lack of participants from Perak in SUKMA 2024. 'Through SUPER, we have the chance to assess directly the potential of athletes at the grassroots level who may have yet to be exposed to competitive competitions.

IPOH: The Perak Sports Carnival (Super) 2025 is the perfect platform to unearth new talent for the Perak contingent for the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026 in Selangor. State Education, Higher Education, Youth and Sports Committee chairman Khairudin Abu Hanipah said the choice of sports contested in Super 2025 - table tennis, volley ball, basket ball, hockey, archery and sepak takraw - was made based on several factors, including the lack of participants from Perak in Sukma 2024. "Through Super, we have the chance to assess directly the potential of athletes at the grassroots level who may have yet to be exposed to competitive competitions. "Those identified have the potential to be absorbed into the Sukma trainee programme and coached as our preparations for Sukma 2026," he said when met by Bernama after the close of Super 2025 at the Ipoh City Council Sports Complex Badminton Arena near here today. He added that Super was vital in ensuring the continuity of athlete development and talent scouting, and assisted in the nurturing of quality athletes to represent the state at the national level. Mualim district emerged overall champion with a tally of 10 gold, seven silver and eight bronze, followed by Kinta with seven gold, six silver and a bronze, while Manjung finished third with three gold and six bronze in SUPER 2025, which began on July 10 ended today with the participation of over 1,200 athletes from 12 districts in the state. – BERNAMA
