‘Where did it go wrong at Manchester United?' – Marcus Rashford responds at Barcelona presentation
Barcelona have confirmed the signing of Marcus Rashford on loan with an option to buy, with the 27-year-old their second reinforcement of the summer. The England international leaves Manchester United for the second time in his career, again on loan, but after a fraught two years at Old Trafford. Rashford spoke at length about how he was already feeling at home in the Catalan capital, and about how enthused he was by the ambition to win at Barcelona. He also confirmed that he was already keen on joining Barcelona back in January. Gary Lineker comments on Rashford and Manchester United Earlier in the week Gary Lineker, the last Englishman to play for Barcelona, had commented that 'Marcus is not the issue, Manchester United are'. That quote was put directly to Rashford, and he was asked what went wrong at Old Trafford. 'Manchester United is going through a period of change, and they have been for a while. But United have been a big part of not only my career but my life, I don't have anything bad to say about Manchester, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to play for them. Football, as with life, not everything goes as you thought. But yeah I'm focused on this, and on this chapter, trying to improve myself and help my team win trophies.' Image via FC Barcelona 'But yeah, I don't have anything to say about Manchester, I wish them best and success in the future.' 'I've brought back discipline to my life' – Rashford Rashford was also asked about the fact that he looked happier and more confident than he did six months ago, before his loan move to Aston Villa. 'Six months ago is six months ago. I'm supposed to be improving (laughs). Right now I'm in a good place, I'm happy and I'm healthy. Eager to get going. It's one thing to say you are motivated and determined, these are things that can change each day depending on how you are feeling.' 'Really the thing that I have brought back to my life and the sport is the discipline. I'm happy to be here, I'm ready to be here. There's things I'm looking forward to, living in a new city, in a new league, against new teams.' He certainly cut a relaxed and content figure during his presentation and media duties, and was quick to smile. Hansi Flick will no doubt be hoping to capitalise on his new-foud discipline. England forward Marcus Rashford joins Barcelona on loan from Manchester United
Marcus Rashford has been given the chance to revive his career at Barcelona with a season-long loan move from Manchester United announced Wednesday. The England forward, who was once considered among Europe's top talents, has seen his career stall in recent years after falling out of favor at United and ending last season on loan at Aston Villa. The 27-year-old Rashford will join a Barcelona attack that includes young star Lamine Yamal, Brazil international Raphinha and veteran striker Robert Lewandowski. 📞 "Yeah… It's official."Rashford follows in Lineker's footsteps. — FC Barcelona (@FCBarcelona) July 23, 2025 Rashford had arrived in Barcelona on Sunday to sign his contract. He had already met his teammates and reportedly trained with the group on Tuesday. Financial details were not immediately disclosed. Spanish media said the agreement with United would give Barcelona an option to buy Rashford for about 30 million euros ($35 million). Spanish champion Barcelona had looked set to sign Spain forward Nico Williams this offseason until he agreed a 10-year deal to stay at Athletic Bilbao earlier this month. That opened the door for Rashford to make the switch. Barcelona had the best attack in Spanish soccer and one of the most prolific across Europe last season, but had been trying to add another piece to the front line to go along with Yamal, Raphinha and Lewandowski. Done deal ✍️ — FC Barcelona (@FCBarcelona) July 23, 2025 The trio helped the club score 102 goals as it won the Spanish league title, 24 goals more than runner-up Real Madrid. The Catalan club also led the Champions League in goals with 43, five more than champion Paris Saint-Germain, before being eliminated by Inter Milan in the semifinals. Rashford had progressed through United's famed academy that produced greats like Ryan Giggs and David Beckham. He made 429 appearances, scored 138 goals and helped United win five major trophies, including two FA Cups and the Europa League. But he struggled to consistently live up to the hype that surrounded him when he burst onto the scene as a teenager in 2016 — only managing 20 goals or more in three seasons. In his last two seasons at United he scored a combined 15 goals and added another four in 17 games on loan at Villa. But Rashford's ability has rarely been called into question and he recently earned a recall to the England squad under new coach Thomas Tuchel, putting him in contention for next year's World Cup if the national team qualifies.

FC Barcelona Makes Bombshell Preseason Announcement
Through an official statement released on Wednesday evening, FC Barcelona made a bombshell ... More announcement concerning its upcoming preseason tour of Asia. Getty Images Through an official statement released on Wednesday evening, FC Barcelona made a bombshell announcement concerning its upcoming preseason tour of Asia. 'FC Barcelona announces that it has been forced to suspend its participation in the match scheduled for next Sunday in Japan due to a serious breach of contract by the promoter,' Barca revealed. 'However, the Club will consider rescheduling the part of the summer tour in South Korea, where two matches are scheduled against FC Seoul FC (July 31) and Daegu FC (August 4), provided that certain conditions are met by the promoter. If these are met, the Club will travel to South Korea in the coming days. FC Barcelona regrets this incident and the impact on the large community of Barca fans in Japan,' it added. While some corners might believe that Barca might be worse off by playing one friendly less after almost two months off since sealing a domestic treble back in May, head coach Hansi Flick doesn't share that belief according to SPORT . The Catalan newspaper's anonymous sources say that the German was the one who 'received the news with the greatest joy' and believes that Barca can prepare for the upcoming 2025/2026 season with 'greater order and control' by not heading to Japan. Fresh off of signing Marcus Rashford on a season-long loan, Barca will continue its preparations at the Joan Gamper CT and await further news on whether the Asian tour really will take place. This means that a training session there is planned for Thursday morning, when at 11:00AM Barca was expected to already fly to Kobe and take on the local team Vissel Kobe which club legend Andres Iniesta famously played for after calling time on his European career. As has been explained, though, that first friendly of three that have been planned will now not take place thanks to a promoter dispute. FC Barcelona's preseason campaign has been disrupted Though Flick appears delighted with not having to head to the Far East straight away, FC Barcelona's preseason campaign has been disrupted by this development and the fact that the Joan Gamper Trophy cannot be hosted at the Spotify Camp Nou despite Barca claiming that would be the case.
