Lokesh urges central support for HC bench, edu reforms in AP
Vijayawada: Minister Nara Lokesh on Wednesday urged Union minister for law and justice Arjun Ram Meghwal to help set up a high court bench at Kurnool.
Lokesh met Meghwal on Wednesday as part of his Delhi tour and explained the necessity for a high court bench in view of the long-pending demand and practical difficulties faced by people from the Rayalaseema region.
Lokesh also met several union ministers on the first day of his two-day visit to the national capital.
In the meeting with Union minister for education Dharmendra Pradhan, Lokesh explained the structural reforms being brought for the Andhra model of education, with a special focus on learning outcomes. He also explained the Learning Excellence in Andhra Pradesh (LEAP) system, the one class one teacher initiative in 9,600 model primary schools, and the upgrading of 700 upper primary schools to high schools.
To bring transparency into the system, legislation was introduced for teacher transfers, and star ratings are being given to schools based on performance.
Lokesh said the state govt is planning to bring unified legislation for strengthening higher education in universities. He said that with the effective implementation of Swayam, Swayam+ Samarth programs, the gross enrolment ratio increased from 36% to 50% in higher education.
The AI University, sports university, and international law university, which are to be set up, will further strengthen higher education in AP, he said.
Lokesh also sought the Centre's cooperation in setting up food processing industries in the Rayalaseema region. In the meeting with the Union minister for food processing Chirag Paswan he explained that the Rayalaseema region is suitable for horticulture crops. Large cultivation of mango, tomato, banana, and other horticultural crops is done in the region, but farmers often find themselves at the losing end in the absence of processing units.
Paswan promised to visit the region to explore opportunities for setting up new industries. Lokesh also met Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Union home minister Amit Shah and discussed various issues pertaining to the state.

Top maoist leader shot: Gajarla Ravi killed in operation; rebel grip fades, no big leader left in Andhra Pradesh
HYDERABAD: With the encounter killing of CPI (Maoist) central committee member Gajarla Ravi, the banned outfit has lost its last top-level operative deployed in Andhra Pradesh. Ravi, a native of Telangana, was heading the crucial Andhra-Odisha Border (AOB) special zonal committee. His death marks the complete elimination of all central committee members either operating in or originally from Andhra this year. A senior official said, "With Ravi gone, the central committee has no one left operating in Andhra. Andhra-origin members have also been wiped out." Though not from Andhra, Ravi had been overseeing Maoist operations in the AOB region, keeping the Andhra structure active after the loss of native leaders. His elimination deals a strategic blow to the organisation's command and coordination in Andhra territory. With no central committee leader now stationed in the state, the Maoist presence has suffered a significant leadership vacuum. While Andhra has been entirely wiped out from the top echelons, Telangana continues to dominate the central committee. Among the key Telangana leaders still active are Mallojula Venugopal Rao alias Sonu (Peddapalli), Thippiri Tirupathi alias Devji (Korutla), Kadari Satyanarayana Reddy alias Kosa, and Malla Raji Reddy alias Sangram (Peddapalli).

Stung by govt's PPP, BRS MP walks out of all-party meeting
Hyderabad: BRS Parliamentary Party Deputy Leader Vaddiraju Ravichandra on Wednesday announced his boycott of the state government's power point presentation, alleging it was organised with 'political malice.' The BRS leader had initially attended the presentation delivered by Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy at the Secretariat. However, Vaddiraju Ravichandra walked out of the meeting in protest against what he termed the Congress government's 'political malfeasance' in organising a Public Private Partnership (PPP) on the Godavari-Banakacherla linkage project. MP Ravichandra unequivocally stated that undertaking this project is illegal and unjust, and that his party strongly opposes it. He urged the state government to strongly voice its case before the Centre on behalf of the people of Telangana, opposing this project proposal and calling for its immediate cancellation. Mr Ravichandra, who exited the meeting expressing strong objection to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's accusations against KCR without considering BRS's suggestions and recommendations, said that as per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, if a state undertakes a new project, it must discuss the project details in the Apex Council and obtain approval. Ravichandra expressed regret that the Centre has taken steps to grant project approvals without convening an Apex Council meeting to discuss these actions taken by the Andhra Pradesh government in violation of the Reorganisation Act. 'We request the Chief Minister to write a letter to the Central Water Resources Department to immediately convene an Apex Council meeting. These issues that are hurting the interests of Telangana should be taken to Delhi soon,' said Ravichandra. He further urged the government to convene a special Assembly session where a unanimous resolution should be passed to stop the Polavaram Banakacherla project and sent to the Centre. BRS leaders K Kishore Goud, B Ramamurthy, J Jagan Mohan and others were also present.
