Opposition in discomfort, all good in Mahayuti: Eknath Shinde on rift buzz
Opposition Shiv Sena-UBT and Congress have often targeted Shinde for his frequent visits to Delhi, contending that there were tensions between him and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis."Is it wrong to meet people who fulfilled the dreams of Balasaheb Thackeray by removing Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir or by building the Ram Temple in Ayodhya," said Shinde.Shinde toppled Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government of Shiv Sena-Congress and NCP, contending that Thackeray abandoned the principles of Hindutva espoused by Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray.Shinde walked out with more than two-thirds of Sena MLAs and MPs in June 2022 and later earned the tag of 'real' Shiv Sena from the Election Commission."The opposition is at great discomfort whenever I visit my village or come to Delhi. But, I keep doing my work. They are free to think whatever they want. I do not come here without any work," he said.Last week, Shinde met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.Shinde said it was easy for the opposition Shiv Sena-UBT to criticise him for his Delhi visits, but they should realise they have joined hands with those who have insulted Balasaheb Thackeray by disenfranchising him for six years."The same Chief Election Commissioner (M S Gill) who took away Balasaheb's right to vote was rewarded by Congress by making him a minister in the UPA government," Shinde said."You (Shiv Sena-UBT) come to Delhi in your quest for power, we come here to pursue public welfare measures and bring development to Maharashtra. We are proud of it," the Shiv Sena chief said.- EndsMust Watch

Modi Hai To Mumkin Hai: Suvendu Adhikari On Demographic Survey To Expel Infiltrators
West Bengal Assembly Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative, particularly the survey on demographic changes and the warning to expel infiltrators from India. Adhikari believes these actions are significant gains for the nation. He supported the PM's warning to expel infiltrators, citing Mamata Banerjee's failure to provide land for 540 km of border fencing, which has led to Rohingyas and Muslims from Bangladesh encroaching on Indian land. Speaking to reporters, Suvendu Adhikari said, "The Prime Minister Modi's special initiative today to conduct a survey on demographic changes and his warning to expel infiltrators from India are the biggest gains for us. Nation First, we must protect our country. Mamata Banerjee did not provide land for 540 km of border fencing, which is why Rohingyas and Muslims from Bangladesh are encroaching on our land." PM Modi announced the launch of a 'High-Power Demography Mission' during his address to the nation on Independence Day. Adhikari accused these infiltrators of grabbing tribal lands in tribal areas, exacerbating local tensions. He highlighted several key achievements under PM Modi's leadership, including the abrogation of Article 370, the construction of the Ram Mandir, abolition of Triple Talaq, the enactment of the Waqf Bill, and the implementation of One Nation, One Election. "In tribal areas, these illegal infiltrators are grabbing tribal Prime Minister abrogated Article 370. During his tenure, the Ram Mandir was built in Ayodhya. Triple talaq was abolished. PM Modi, on Friday, from the ramparts of Red Fort, announced the launch of a 'High-Power Demography Mission', citing concerns over demographic changes in border areas and said that it is a threat to national security. Prime Minister Narendra Modi cautioned the nation about a conspiracy aiming to change India's demography and said, "I would like to alert the nation about a concern, a challenge. Under a well-thought-out conspiracy, the country's demography is being changed, and the seeds of a new crisis are being sown. Infiltrators are snatching away the livelihood of the youth of my country. Infiltrators are targeting the sisters and daughters of my country. This will not be tolerated. Losing hope on Jammu and Kashmir being granted statehood, says CM Omar Abdullah
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said that his hope about the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir is fading, PTI reported. 'My well-wishers told me something big for Jammu and Kashmir will be announced from Delhi on Independence Day,' the chief minister said during his Independence Day address in Srinagar. 'I was even told that papers were being prepared [for statehood]. We waited, but nothing happened.' VIDEO | Independence Day 2025: Addressing a gathering at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar, J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah says, 'More than six years have passed since the people of Jammu and Kashmir last heard their representative address them from here. When I last spoke from this… — Press Trust of India (@PTI_News) August 15, 2025 Abdullah further announced that over the coming eight weeks, he and his team would go door to door across all 90 Assembly constituencies to collect signatures in support of restoring statehood, The Indian Express reported. These signatures will be presented before the Supreme Court, he said. 'We will ask them if they want J&K to be a state again or not,' Abdullah said. '… If they are not ready, then I will accept my defeat and accept that J&K is satisfied with these conditions. Abdullah also called the Supreme Court's remarks on Thursday as unfortunate, The Indian Express reported. He said that while Pakistan was 'punished for 'three-four days', the people of Jammu and Kashmir, who have raised their voices against such attacks, have been punished for years. 'We are not with the Pahalgam attackers,' the National Conference leader said. 'We do not accept the Pahalgam attack. But despite that, today the Pahalgam attack is being used to deny us statehood.' On Thursday, the court noted that ground realities in the Union Territory, including incidents such as the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, cannot be ignored. Statehood for Jammu and Kashmir The Bharatiya Janata Party-led Centre had abrogated Article 370, which gave special status to the erstwhile state, in August 2019. It also bifurcated the state into two Union Territories: Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. In December 2023, the Supreme Court upheld the validity of the 2019 order abrogating Article 370 and ordered the Centre to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. In January, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that he wanted to give the Centre the 'first opportunity' to restore the Union Territory's statehood before seeking legal recourse. The National Conference leader told reporters that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had himself committed to restoring the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir. 'Every government or every individual has recourse to courts,' Omar Abdullah said. 'But that was never going to be our first option.'

Asaduddin Owaisi criticises PM for ‘praising RSS', warns of internal threat from Sangh Parivar
Hyderabad Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi tore into Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Independence Day speech in which he heaped praises on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and said that while China is an external threat to the country, India faces a greater danger from the Sangh parivar that seeks to sow the seeds of hate and division. Taking to X, soon after hoisting the Tricolor near Madina Building on Friday, he said, 'China remains our biggest external threat. But the greater danger lies within — the hate and division spread by the Sangh Parivar. We must defeat all such forces to truly safeguard our freedom.' Mr. Owaisi claimed that Hindutva was not in consonance with the spirit of the Constitution of India. 'The ideology of Hindutva believes in exclusion and is antithetical to the values of our Constitution. Modi could have gone to Nagpur to praise RSS as a Swayamsevak, why did he have to do it from the Red Fort as the Prime Minister?' he asked. He said that speaking highly of the RSS was an 'insult to the freedom struggle' and maintained that RSS and its affiliates were the foot soldiers of the British. 'They never joined the fight for Independence and hated Gandhi more than they ever opposed the British,' he added. 'Mr. Modi has once again reminded us why it is necessary to learn real history and honour the real heroes. If we don't, the day isn't far when cowardice will be sold to us as the highest form of bravery. RSS rejects the values of inclusive nationalism that motivated our freedom fighters,' he said.
