Starting Saturday, commuters can travel underground from Aarey to Acharya Atre Chowk in Worli in 36 minutes, covering a distance of 22km for a fare of Rs 60.With this, the city's operational Metro network has expanded from 59km to 68km. The newly opened 9.77km stretch runs between BKC and Acharya Atre Chowk and includes six stations—Dharavi, Shitaladevi, Dadar West, Siddhivinayak, Worli and Acharya Atre Chowk. "This is an engineering marvel. We've built a tunnel under the Mithi river and passed through congested areas like Girgaon. Our aim is to open 50km of Metro lines this year and another 50km by next year, making a total of 100 km operational by 2026," said Fadnavis after taking a Metro ride from BKC to Siddhivinayak.Trains will run daily from 6:30am to 10:30pm, with a headway of 6 minutes and 20 seconds. The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) will operate 244 services daily using eight trains. Frequency is expected to improve as more rakes are inducted, especially during peak hours. The stretch boosts east-west connectivity and links key commercial zones like BKC, Worli, Lower Parel and Prabhadevi. Commuters will also get easier access to religious places such as Siddhivinayak temple, Shitaladevi and Mahim Dargah, and recreational hubs such as Shivaji Park and Ravindra Natya Mandir. The corridor is also expected to decongest arterial roads such as Senapati Bapat Marg and Tulsi Pipe Road, which are currently burdened with heavy traffic.Deputy CM Shinde said the corridor will take 4.5-5 lakh vehicles off the road. "It's not just about infrastructure, it's about improving quality of life. We're reducing congestion, travel time and fuel use," he said. The final leg of Aqua Line 3—Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade—will be inaugurated in Aug. The full 33.5km Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ corridor will be the country's longest fully underground Metro line with 26 stations. Travel from end to end will take under an hour.Fares for Phase 2A range from Rs 10 to Rs 40 depending on distance, while the end-to-end fare from JVLR Aarey to Acharya Atre Chowk is Rs 60. Ticketing machines, smartcard kiosks and digital payment options have been installed at all stations to ease the commuter experience.Fadnavis also announced that a common mobility card —valid across Metro, Monorail, BEST and rail—will be rolled out soon after successful trials. "This will give Mumbaikars a truly end-to-end, seamless travel experience. We've also partnered with Google to provide real-time BEST tracking and journey planning on mobile."With this launch, Mumbai's Metro vision inches closer to global standards — safe, reliable, and interconnected public transport across the region.

Omar admits Kashmir tourism slump post Pahalgam terror attack

Aligarh: Tourism in Kashmir Valley has seen a sharp decline due to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam in which 25 tourists and a local were killed, Jammu & Kashmir chief minister said on Wednesday during a personal visit to Aligarh. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Abdullah, who drove himself to Aftab Manzil in Shamshad Market to meet the family of his late friend Sajid Khan, said, "No one can deny that tourism has suffered, but we are trying our best to restore normalcy. " On ongoing development in the region, Abdullah said, "Whatever development has taken place is less, because the kind of war we are fighting there, the way our neighbouring country is trying everything to worsen the situation, more efforts will be made that maximum development will take place in Jammu and Kashmir." He added, "It is good, it is world's highest bridge we have in Kashmir," referring to the Chenab Rail Bridge, one of the infrastructure projects being used by the govt to help revive the region's economy and boost connectivity. The Centre and J&K administration are also focusing on infrastructure development and security arrangements for the upcoming to help rebuild confidence in the region's tourism potential. "This is my first visit to Aligarh. I came here to pay tribute to my late friend Sajid Khan and meet his family. Although I've received invitations from AMU several times in the past, this is the first time I've been able to come. Sadly, I don't have any personal ties with the university," Abdullah said. He kept the visit low-profile and spent time with Sajid Khan's family, offering condolences and joining them in reciting the Fatiha at the grave. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now He also visited the Blind School at Aligarh Muslim University, where he interacted with teachers and students and enquired about their education and well-being. In the aftermath of the attack, the tourism sector in Kashmir ground to a halt. Hotels and guest houses reported mass cancellations. One Pahalgam hotel alone refunded over Rs 1.3 lakh in bookings. Daily arrivals at Srinagar airport dropped sharply, with flights reduced from 92 to about 50. Airlines such as IndiGo, SpiceJet and Air India urged the Centre to waive airport user charges to help revive demand. Occupancy rates fell near zero, prompting hoteliers to seek relief on loan interest and electricity bills. Authorities and industry groups have appealed for wider financial support, including subsidies for the hospitality sector. Meanwhile, tourism experts launched safety inspections across key sites to rebuild visitor confidence.

All Seats Booked For Next 10 Days On Kashmir Train Days After Inauguration

Srinagar: It's a booking frenzy for trains to Kashmir. Days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat train, connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country by rail, the train service is seeing an unprecedented rush. Officials said tickets have been sold out and all the seats booked for the next 10 days. The Katra-Srinagar train has transformed connectivity to Kashmir valley. The rail link is an engineering marvel as people rush to experience a journey through the world's tallest rail bridge, the Chenab bridge, and some of the longest rail tunnels. The three-hour journey is a dream for many as it brings Kashmir valley closer to Jammu region and the rest of the country. The Rs 43,000 crore rail project was completed early this year, and PM Modi inaugurated it on Friday last. It has taken more than four decades to complete the massive project that has helped to replace Kashmir's remoteness and a sense of separation with proximity. Although there is no direct train service between Srinagar and Delhi, and passengers have to change trains at Katra, the rail link itself is seen as a major achievement towards integrating Kashmir valley with the rest of the country in a true sense. A day after inauguration, the railways formally started the train service between Katra and Srinagar. From day one, there has been a long waiting list as enthusiastic people tried to catch the first train. Officials said the rush is increasing by the day and two trains between Katra and Srinagar, and vice-versa are falling short to cope with the demand. Before the launch of this train service, the only link between Kashmir valley and the rest of the country was the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway (NH 44), which would often get closed during rain and snowfall. After the launch of the rail service, Kashmir valley will no longer remain "cut off" from the rest of the country, come rain or snow. The rail link is largely paved by tunnels and bridges through the geologically challenging Himalayan mountains.
