Classes in Davao de Oro town suspended due to high heat index

Classes in all levels in both public and private schools in Compostela, Davao de Oro were suspended afternoon on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, due to the high heat index. Based on report of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), the heat index in the city reached 39.8 degrees Celsius, as of 1:31 p.m. This prompted the local government to suspend face-to-face classes and advise schools to shift to blended or distance learning modalities to ensure continuity of education without compromising health and safety. In the memorandum order issued by Mayor Levi Ebdao, the MDRRMO has been instructed to monitor local weather conditions and issue timely advisories. 'All school heads and concerned stakeholders are urged to coordinate with the MDRRMO and this office for any further developments,' the order reads. All residents are also advised to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses. These precautions include: Staying well-hydrated; Avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat hours (usually between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.); Wearing light, breathable clothing; Staying in shaded or well-ventilated areas; Being alert for symptoms of heat exhaustion such as dizziness, headache, and nausea, and seeking immediate medical attention when needed
