Superman director James Gunn has taken to social media to confirm the DC movie's runtime, but moved just as quickly to deny any suggestions of studio interference in the final cut.
Recent cinema listings had Superman down at 129 minutes, with Gunn replying to a fan on Threads to say that was correct "inclusive of credits/post credits."
When a commenter replied, "Any truth that [Warner Bros] forced you to make it shorter?", Gunn wrote: "Zero truth to that. And they couldn't even if that's something that they wanted to. It's a DC Studios film."
Starring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel alongside Rachel Brosnahan's Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor, Superman marks the first live-action project of DC Studios' nascent DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
Other confirmed projects for the first wave of DC's new universe include the Aaron Pierre-starring Lanterns, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a Clayface movie, and a new Batman project separate from Robert Pattinson and Matt Reeves' own Bat-Verse.
Peacemaker season 2, meanwhile, follows immediately on from Superman's story this August, with a recent trailer hinting at some multiversal shenanigans – and could clue us in on how the DCU connects to the old DCEU. According to Gunn, there's even a "really, really, really big cameo" for fans to look forward to.
Superman joins a packed schedule in July, which includes Jurassic World Rebirth and a duel with Marvel as Fantastic Four takes its First Steps into the MCU.

India's fake weddings

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Imagine an event with all the fun of a wedding but none of the commitment, stress or family drama: you've just imagined the latest entry onto the Indian party scene. At a "fake wedding", people gather "to enjoy a wedding party minus the actual marriage', said the BBC, and the trend is spreading beyond India's shores. 'There for the energy' There are "dazzling lights, glittering outfits, Bollywood hits, a lavish spread of food and an atmosphere soaked in celebration". It all feels "extravagant, emotional and larger than life" but there's no bride and groom, "just the party". These "judgement-free" ceremonies offer the wedding experience "without drama", said Curly Tales. You can have the enjoyment of a Desi wedding "without the emotional baggage" or "financial headache". There's "no awkward gift-giving, no planning leave from work for a multi-day affair" and "fake smiles" aren't required for "distant relatives" you hardly know. Fake weddings chime with young people's desire to find reasons to celebrate. And the trend's "low-commitment nature" works well for the younger generation because "you're not attending out of obligation"; you're there "because you want to be – for the music, for the energy, and for the people". Dubai dance-offs The trend is already evolving. At some fake weddings, the organisers divide attendees into "groom's team" or "bride's team"; at others, there's "no alcohol, just a themed celebration", said the BBC. Fake Indian weddings are also "taking over Dubai", said Curly Tales, where ticketed parties are "decked out with dhols, DJs, dance-offs and full-blown wedding decor".In India's big cities – Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru – ticket prices for fake weddings start at around 1,500 rupees (£13) but they can be as high as 15,000 rupees or more. This is great news for India's $130 billion (£97 billion) wedding industry. Most "proper" weddings take place during the cooler months, typically between November and March, and venues are often empty between June and August. Fake weddings can step in to fill that gap. It's already clear there's real appeal in faking it. And why not, said Curly Tales, when you can swerve the "social minefield" of relatives asking "questions about your career, relationships or why you're not next in line"? The "only thing expected of you" is to "show up, dress well and have fun". Solve the daily Crossword

Instagram's map feature spurs user backlash over geolocation privacy concerns

The launch of an Instagram feature that details users' geolocation data illicited backlash from social media users on Thursday. Meta debuted the Instagram Map tool on Wednesday, pitching the feature as way to "stay up-to-date with friends" by letting users share their "last active location." The tool is akin to Snapchat's Snap Map feature that lets people see where their friends are posting from. Although Meta said in a blog post that the feature's "location sharing is off unless you opt in," several social media users said in posts that they were worried that was not the case. "I can't believe Instagram launched a map feature that exposes everyone's location without any warning," said one user who posted on Threads, Meta's micro-blogging service. Another Threads user said they were concerned that bad actors could exploit the map feature by spying on others. "Instagram randomly updating their app to include a maps feature without actually alerting people is so incredibly dangerous to anyone who has a restraining order and actively making sure their abuser can't stalk their location online…Why," said the user in a Threads post. Instagram chief Adam Mosseri responded to the complaints on Threads, disputing the notion that the map feature is exposing people's locations against their will. "We're double checking everything, but so far it looks mostly like people are confused and assume that, because they can see themselves on the map when they open, other people can see them too," Mosseri wrote on Thursday. "We're still checking everything though to make sure nobody shares location without explicitly deciding to do so, which, by the way, requires a double consent by design (we ask you to confirm after you say you want to share)." Still, some Instagram users claimed that that their locations were being shared despite not opting in to using the map feature. "Mine was set to on and shared with everyone in the app," said a user in a Threads post. "My location settings on my phone for IG were set to never. So it was not automatically turned off for me. A Meta spokesperson reiterated Mosseri's comments in a statement and said "Instagram Map is off by default, and your live location is never shared unless you choose to turn it on.""If you do, only people you follow back — or a private, custom list you select — can see your location," the spokesperson said.
