War 2 Movie Review: Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, Kiara Advani spy saga is so limp, you're left looking for zing
War 2 Movie Review & Rating: Rogue spy Kabir is back, and this time around, he has a bigger task cut out for him. Perhaps the most difficult, says his father-figure mentor Colonel Luthra, a description which turns out to be prophetic. Yes, the task, to keep us glued to the screen, which is the solo ask of a fast-paced actioner, turns out to be not just difficult, but impossible. I'm sorry to report that War 2, the sixth instalment of the YRF Spy Universe, is nothing but a glossy snooze-fest. Right from the entry, in which Kabir swings into a dojo-style mansion in Japan and scythes and punches his way towards his target, scattering scores of costumed extras around like confetti, I had a sinking feeling. The screen went blank. Like, not literally, but you know the way you zone out when you are confronted with a scene which is meant to be high-octane, and you find nothing new in it? ALSO READ | War 2 movie review LIVE Updates: Fans blame makers for 'overlooking' Jr NTR potential in Hrithik Roshan starrer, film crosses Rs 10 cr mark It's not like Hrithik Roshan, In And As Agent Kabir, back from a long hiatus after the 2019 'War', isn't trying his best. One man, countless enemies. But, for the love of everything that is a cracking spy saga, couldn't anyone have thought of at least one scene or sequence which doesn't remind you of something you've seen before? Those sword-waggling fighters, so Crouching Tiger, so Kill Bill. That computer-generated dog, snarling first, then snuggling up to Kabir, so John Wick. That dance-off, between Kabir and Vikram (NTR Jr), so very 'War', in which Tiger Shroff's worshipful rookie matched steps with the senior spy. NTR Jr, positioned in the sequel as equal-stakes co-star, in an attempt to grab pan-India eyeballs, is no slouch on the dance-floor, but this is no 'Naatu Naatu', and though Hrithik is as limber as he has always been, there's surprisingly little energy in the duo swirling-and-twirling. Which is pretty much the problem with this soggy spy saga, which keeps inserting heavy-on-saccharine melodrama in between our heroes hanging from helicopters, arcing through the sky and ocean and snow, facing a hydra-headed enemy named Kalki, standing in for Pakistan, China, Bangladesh and a few others. I'm sure if Trump's tariffs had come up in time, the US would find itself arrayed in this conclave. I'm also sure NTR Jr missed his fizzy RRR co-star Ram Charan when swinging through the air, and Kiara Advani, playing the sprightly army woman Kavya, missed an actual fleshed-out role in this boys-and-their-toys flick. Anil Kapoor, looking fighting fit, gets a scene in which he shoots-and-scoots, perched behind the kind of monstrous machine-gun which reminds you of a scene in 'Animal'. If nothing else, you can't fault YRF films from piling reference upon reference, which you can spend time spotting. I didn't love the first 'War', but there were some flashes of freshness in there, with Hrithik making the most of his streaky-golden locks, the sun glinting on all the bronze and brawn. 'War' director Sidharth Anand course-corrected to find just the right sweet spot between silly-and-spoofy for 'Pathan', and combined with Shah Rukh Khan's wounded swag (the phrase kintsugi comes up here too, spoiler alert) made that one so much fun. War 2, directed by another Yashraj regular Ayan Mukherji, is so limp that you are left looking for zing. And that comes, fleetingly, in the glimpses we get of the next editions, one in which we have the return of our duo, and, in the other, wait for it, the advent of Bobby Deol-Alia Bhatt's 'Alpha'. Will that be the one? War 2 movie cast: Hrithik Roshan, NTR Jr, Kiara Advani, Ashutosh Rana, Anil Kapoor, Varun Badola War 2 movie director: Ayan Mukerji War 2 movie rating: 1.5 stars

Ahaan Panday's Sweet Gesture Towards Fans Wins Hearts, Video Goes Viral
Last Updated: Ahaan Panday has been getting love from all corners ever since his debut film Saiyaara has released. The romantic drama has shattered all box office records. Ahaan Panday may be just one film old, but the young actor is already winning over fans with his charm. The Saiyaara star was recently spotted in Mumbai, where his gesture towards fans has gone viral on social media. In the video, shared by Filmygyan, we can see Ahaan Panday clicking selfies with fans. He was all smiles as he clicked photos and even interacted with them. The actor has been getting love from all corners ever since his debut film Saiyaara has released. The romantic drama has shattered all box office records. Many celebrities have praised the film. Mohit Suri's take on Saiyaara: Filmmaker Mohit Suri is currently basking in the success of his latest release, Saiyaara, featuring debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. Suri, at CNN-News18's Mumbai Townhall event, said that his upcoming film Saiyaara was written keeping newcomers in mind. He revealed that it was Yash Raj Films chairman Aditya Chopra who told him that the film would flop if it were made with 'established names". 'I really had put in a lot of my voice into the film," Suri shared. 'In this atmosphere where everyone was blowing up cars, I was making this love story with new people. I put in a lot of myself in writing the film, along with my assistant. I sent the script to YRF during the December holiday weekend and I chickened out. I thought, let me give him some solution—in the sense, provide some actors and known names who would back me and make this film. I so badly wanted to make this film," he explained. Thanks to Aditya Chopra's faith, Mohit Suri stuck to his gut and cast fresh faces, ensuring Saiyaara remains true to its original essence. And the result? A film with a gross collection of over Rs 500 crore! Varun Badola on Saiyaara: In an interview with Nayandeep Rakshit on YouTube, Varun was quoted saying, 'People are saying that this film has proven that we don't need stars anymore. That's not true. Abhi tum Ahaan Panday ko utha ke Jawan mein daalo, Jawan flop ho jayegi. Shah Rukh ko Saiyaara mein daal do, Saiyaara flop ho jayegi. Shah Rukh will suddenly become too big for the film, and Ahaan will not have the personality to run Jawan." 'I saw the euphoria on Instagram. Log jo chudiyaan tod rahe hai, chaatiyaan peet rahe hai (People were breaking their bangles, beating themselves). I think the promotions team went a little overboard there, where people are going to see the film, putting IV drips. Those people must have been told to give content in some way; thank god, people didn't get their legs broken and went crawling to see the film," he added. About Saiyaara: The romantic drama follows Ahaan, a daring and struggling musician, and Aneet, a fiercely devoted writer, as their love is tested by life's trials in classic Mohit Suri style. The film explores themes of grief, sacrifice, and eternal love. Written by Rohan Shankar and Sankalp Sadanah, Saiyaara also features standout performances from Geeta Agrawal Sharma, Sid Makkar, Shaad Randhawa, Rajesh Kumar, and Varun Badola, marking the first collaboration between Mohit Suri and legendary production house Yash Raj Films. view comments First Published: August 14, 2025, 13:39 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
