Myanmar worker dies in freak mishap

MELAKA: A construction worker from Myanmar died after he was trapped in a sand pump machine at a housing construction site in Pulau Gadong, here today.
Melaka Tengah Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Mohd Ismail Harun said they received an emergency call at 11.56 am, and a team of firefighters, along with a Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT) and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) team rushed to the scene.
"Firefighters arrived about 10 minutes later and found a 26-year-old male victim stuck in the sand pump while carrying out construction work.
"He was pronounced dead at the scene and efforts to extricate the body are still ongoing," he said in a statement.
He said the operation to extricate the victim is being assisted by the Cheng Fire and Rescue Station, which deployed a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and eight personnel to the scene.

SUNGAI BULOH: A 30-year-old man was killed after a lorry crashed into a motorcycle, a roadside stall, and the fence of a mosque in Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh yesterday. Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations commander senior fire officer I Rosdi Hainan said the department received an emergency call regarding the incident near Masjid Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh at 1.36pm. A team of six firefighters from the Sungai Buloh Fire and Rescue Station, equipped with one Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), arrived at the scene three minutes later. "The accident involved a Nissan UD lorry, which collided with a motorcycle of unknown make before ploughing into a roadside stall and the mosque's perimeter fence," he said in a statement today. He said that the victim was found unconscious and trapped beneath the lorry. "Our personnel successfully extricated the man by 1.44pm. He was later pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel," Rosdi said, adding that the body had been handed over to the police for further action. KUCHING, May 30 — Six individuals sustained injuries when the car they were travelling in skidded off the road near Kampung Gua along Jalan Serian-Sri Aman earlier today. According to a statement from the Sarawak Operations Centre of the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (Bomba), the accident involved a Perodua Axia compact car. The victims included a 15-year-old female teenager, three adult males aged 21, 32, and 60, and two adult females aged 30 and 56. All victims only sustained minor injuries and were not trapped in the vehicle following the accident. They managed to exit the car unaided, without the use of any rescue equipment. 'Upon the rescue team's arrival at the scene, it was confirmed that a single-vehicle accident had occurred involving a compact vehicle (Perodua Axia),' the statement read. JBPM further reported that three of the injured were transported to Hospital Sri Aman via Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS), while one adult male and one female were conveyed by Ministry of Health (KKM) ambulances. The emergency call was received at 7.16am, and the operation was concluded at 7.50am. The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) also responded to the incident. — The Borneo Post

SEGAMAT, May 29 (Bernama) -- A father and his nine-year-old daughter were killed when the vehicle they were travelling in with four other family members skidded and plunged into a ravine in Kampung Kwongsai, along Jalan Segamat-Labis, yesterday. Bandar Baru Segamat Fire and Rescue Station Operations Commander Senior Fire Officer II Zainal Abidin Che Deraman identified the deceased as Mohd Fitri Md Said, 39, and Nurin Insyirah Mohd Fitri. The four others were injured. They are Mohd Fitri's wife, Nurain Farhana Johari, 32, and their three children, Muhammad Zikri Mohd Fitri, 11, Nur Hisna Mohd Fitri, 4, and Nur Atiya Mohd Fitri, 2. Zainal Abidin said the station received an emergency call about the incident involving a four-wheel drive vehicle skidding and plunging into a ravine at 6.47 pm. 'Following the alert, a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) with seven personnel was dispatched to the scene, which is located about nine kilometres from the station,' he said in a statement today. Upon arrival, he said the team discovered a Toyota Hilux that had plunged into the ravine, with two victims trapped beneath the vehicle. 'The team used special equipment, including a Hydraulic Ramp, to stabilise the vehicle and extricate the victims,' he said. The other four victims managed to free themselves from the wreckage and were subsequently sent to a hospital for treatment, while the bodies were handed over to the police for further action. --BERNAMA
