Jacob Misiorowski fires 12 pitches at 100+ mph in first inning against Skenes' Pirates, most by any pitcher this year

While it was a raw showing of just how electric Jacob Misiorowski can be, it was dazzling all the same. In Wednesday's much-ballyhooed matchup between Milwaukee and Pittsburgh, the upstart Milwaukee rookie, Jacob Misiorowski, unleashed 12 fastballs over 100mph in the first inning, more than any pitcher in all of 2025.
That blistering first frame paved the way for a lights-out performance that saw Misiorowski top the reigning NL Rookie of the Year, Paul Skenes, with five shutout innings that carried Milwaukee to a 4–2 win.
Jacob Misiorowski's power in the first inning is deserving of attention
Misiorowski quickly showed he was a man on a mission. He hit 102.1 mph and released 12 100 mph pitches in that first inning alone. That first-inning onslaught also set the roof sky-high; no MLB pitcher had thrown more triple-digit pitches in a first inning so far this season.
His fastballs aren't just fast, as he has plenty of heat on his fastball to get swings-and-misses, as he's already totaled 52 pitches over 100mph in just two MLB starts, which is the most for any starter in baseball.
This type of velocity is not limited to sprints. Throwing his 14 pitches of over 100mph in his five innings, hitless MLB debut, Jacob Misiorowski is already one of the top triple-digit heaters in history. In his second start, he unleashed 29 100+mph fastballs, a figure matched in volume per game only by the likes of Hunter Greene and Jacob deGrom.
Power pitching duel: Jacob Misiorowski vs Paul Skenes electrifies MLB
This Wednesday's matchup was touted to be a game of the giants, and it sure lived up to the billing. Paul Skenes, Pittsburgh's new rocket of a rookie and the 024 NL Rookie of the Year, is himself a 100 mph flamethrower. Over the first two months of the season, he has thrown 28 pitches over 100 mph, which places him in elite company. But Misiorowski, with a 52, was too quick for him.
Kicking it back to the contest: Misiorowski allowed two hits, struck out eight, and helped set up Milwaukee's first-inning offense.
On the other hand, Skenes found himself in a 37-pitch inning as the Brewers got to him for all four runs, more than he had ever given up in a single inning in his first 40 career starts.

Collin Murray-Boyles. Image via: David Jensen/GettyImages C ollin Murray-Boyles was selected by the Toronto Raptors with the ninth overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft on Wednesday night. It was a major moment for South Carolina basketball. The 6-foot-6 forward, who recently turned 20, now becomes the second-highest draft selection in the history of the Gamecocks program. Despite South Carolina's disappointing season, Murray-Boyles stood out with his skill and defensive instincts, making him one of the most intriguing picks in this year's draft. Raptors land Collin Murray-Boyles with the 9th pick Collin Murray-Boyles made a blue-chip impact. In a year where the Gamecocks finished dead last in the SEC with a dismal 2-16 conference record, his production was commendable. Averaging 16.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game, he earned All-SEC second-team honors. Indeed, it is a rare feat given the team's record. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver made it official in Brooklyn, announcing: "With the 9th pick in 2025 NBA Draft, Toronto Raptors select Collin Murray-Boyles from the University of South Carolina." Sports reporter Mike Uva of GamecockCentral reported the news by posting on X, "Just In: South Carolina forward Collin Murray-Boyles has been drafted with the 9th overall pick by the Toronto Raptors. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like A super-hit in Malaysia. Collins weighs 239 pounds and has a max vertical of 34.5 inches. But on top of that, his ability to judge opponents' gameplay before the game has been widely praised by scouts. While his offensive range is still developing, he shot just 26.5% from three and hit 39 threes over two seasons. Collin's ability to finish around the basket and timing on both ends make him a high-upside pick. With a field goal percentage of 58.6%, Murray-Boyles showed consistency in scoring efficiently without needing to dominate the ball. The moment was an emotional one for the Columbia native, who shared the spotlight with his parents, brother, and girlfriend Chloe Kitts. NHL trade rumors: Montreal Canadiens could quietly move Patrik Laine as contract expiration looms
Montreal Canadiens are open to trading Patrik Laine (Getty Images) The Montreal Canadiens face a pivotal offseason after an early playoff exit, and while they're not actively shopping Patrik Laine, the $34.8 million forward could be on the move—if the right call comes in. According to Sportsnet's Eric Engels, the Canadiens are 'open to offers' for Laine, who's entering the final year of his four-year contract with an $8.7 million cap hit. Canadiens open to trading Patrik Laine amid cap crunch 'If the phone rang and somebody wanted to take on the last year of Patrik Laine's deal, I don't think the Canadiens would necessarily hesitate to ship it out,' Engels shared on Sportsnet 590 The FAN. That statement has sparked speculation about whether the Finnish sniper's stint in Montreal could be shorter than expected. Laine, 27, was acquired from the Columbus Blue Jackets last summer and posted 20 goals and 33 points in just 52 regular-season games. His campaign, however, was plagued by injuries, and his postseason ended abruptly after he broke his finger in the first round against the Washington Capitals. Despite his talent and scoring ability, Laine's inconsistency and health issues have led to some uncertainty about his long-term value in Montreal's forward corps. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Uncover The Latest 2025 SUV Prices List In The Philippines SUV Deals | Search Ads Search Now Undo 'I don't think they're necessarily ripping their hair out to find ways to get him out of Montreal over this last year,' Engels clarified. 'There's still an opportunity for him to prove to be a valuable piece.' Cap space pressures and Kent Hughes ' aggressive offseason strategy With just over $6 million in cap space, GM Kent Hughes is exploring all avenues to improve the team's depth. The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun noted that Hughes is 'leaving no stone unturned in surveying the forward market.' That includes weighing the financial flexibility trading Laine could bring. Though not in panic mode, the Canadiens are clearly in evaluation territory. If a contender with cap space sees value in Laine's high-upside scoring touch, Montreal may seize the opportunity to shed salary while strengthening their rebuild.
