Exhibition on Telugu freedom fighters opens at Salar Jung Museum
The event was formally inaugurated by V. Vijayendra Prasad, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), alongside Prof. B. Jagadeeshwar Rao, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad (UoH). The exhibition features over 40 panels detailing the lives and sacrifices of unsung heroes such as Turrebaz Khan, MoulviAllauddin, Kaloji Narayana Rao, Sangam Laxmi Bayamma, Kumram Bheem, and SuddalaHanumanthu.
Speaking at the event, Vijayendra Prasad praised the exhibition as a rare and valuable compilation of historical information. He emphasised the importance of making such content accessible to the youth and encouraged the CBC to leverage digital platforms for wider dissemination. Reflecting on the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' segment, which traces the design evolution of the Indian flag beginning with PingaliVenkayya's 1921 version, Prasad remarked that the National Flag is not just a piece of cloth but a profound symbol of India's self-respect and pride. He urged every citizen to uphold the dignity and honour embodied by the flag.
Prof. B. Jagadeeshwar Rao highlighted the exhibition's role in preserving historical memory and fostering patriotism among younger generations. He underscored three central themes: India's freedom struggle, the evolution of the National Flag, and the liberation of Hyderabad from Nizam's rule. He called upon students to internalise these lessons and transform patriotic sentiment into constructive societal contributions. Education, he noted, should serve not only personal advancement but also national unity and progress.
As part of the exhibition's outreach, CBC Hyderabad conducted essay writing and Telugu poetry competitions on patriotic themes such as 'Operation Sindoor' across five city colleges. Winners were felicitated during the event with certificates and prizes presented by Vijayendra Prasad and Prof. Jagadeeshwar Rao.
Shruti Patil, Additional Director General, CBC, stated that the exhibition aims to reconnect today's youth with the nation's rich legacy of courage and sacrifice. She expressed hope that such initiatives would inspire a deeper appreciation for India's freedom movement.
The exhibition will remain open to the public until August 17, 2025, offering citizens an opportunity to engage with the historical narratives of Telugu freedom fighters. G. Kusum, Curator of Salar Jung Museum, and Koteshwar Rao, AD CBC, were present at the event along with other officials from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Revanth shreds Centre's take on State debts
Hyderabad: Close on the heels of the Union government declaring in Parliament that Telangana's debts in 10 years were Rs 3.5 lakh crore, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has shredded the Centre's official figures on the mounting debt burden on the state, saying: "The previous government left us with mounting debts and arrears of Rs 8,21,652 crore when the people's government assumed power. Out of this, Rs. 6,71,757 crore are debts. Rs 40,154 crore dues are related to the payments of the employees and other schemes. Rs 1,09,740 crore dues are related to SC, ST sub plan, Singareni (Collieries), electricity and other departments," Reddy said. From the total debts, the state government has completed the debt service of Rs 2,20,676 crore, which included Rs 1,32,498 crore principal amount and Rs 88,178 crore interest amount till the date, he said. Speaking after unfurling the National Flag at the historical Golconda Fort here on Friday to mark the Independence Day, he amplified that, despite facing financial burden, his government was working hard to take the state forward from zero to the top level. Revanth Reddy demanded the Centre to approve the BC quota bills passed by the state legislature. He said the state Assembly has passed two bills to provide 42 per cent quota to Backward Classes in local bodies, education and jobs and sent them for presidential assent. "On this occasion, I once again demand the central government to take a quick decision on the pending bills," he said. The Socio-Economic Caste Survey and SC classification conducted in the state were courageous decisions of the state government in the history of India, he underlined. The Chief Minister took a broadside at the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi government on the unbridled encroachment on lakes, ponds and other water bodies in Hyderabad. "In the previous government, people were not serious about the encroachment on lands, ponds and canals due to lack of a credible system. So far, the Hyderabad Disaster Management and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has protected 13 parks and 20 lakes from encroachments. Amberpet Bathukamma Kunta has been restored. The HYDRAA protected government lands worth Rs 30 ,000 crore. Today, the common people are praising HYDRAA. "The opposition parties are using HYDRAA as a weapon for political gains. My appeal to people is to think and compare the past with the current situation when the Hyderabad City received heavy rains". The opposition was trying to create unrest by showing HYDRAA as a failed system, he said. "Today, cities like Bangaluru, Mumbai and Chennai are facing flood problems. Hyderabad should not witness such a plight. To make Hyderabad a safe destination for living, HYDRAA was brought about to curb the encroachment of tanks," he said. Referring to Telangana Rising 2047 document, the Chief Minister said that the document promises a permanent solution to Hyderabad's flooding problem with the Musi Rejuvenation Project. The document also showed how India's Future City, being built to international standards, will be a gateway to the modern world. 'Telangana Rising – 2047 is a plan to radically transform the image of Telangana with the construction of the Gandhi Sarovar project at Bapu Ghat, greenfield highways, dry ports, second phase Metro Rail, radial roads between the Outer and Regional Ring Roads, Warangal and Adilabad airports, Hyderabad-Nagpur, Hyderabad-Bangalore, and Hyderabad-Vijayawada industrial corridors. Our goal is to implement this resolution and make Telangana a key player in the country's progress by 2047. The Telangana Rising – 2047 is a grand visionary document to transform Telangana into a one trillion US dollar economy by 2035 and a 3 trillion UD dollar economy by 2047. This is not just a plan. AP's new liquor policy dents TG border sales
Mahabubnagar: Cross-border liquor sales hinge on excise policies in the respective states, quality, varieties available, and prices. Sudden shifts can upend sales on either side of the border. A 'case' in point in the Telugu states is Andhra Pradesh's newly revamped liquor policy, which has begun to make its presence felt in Telangana's border districts, with sales in several wine and liquor shops witnessing a steep decline—particularly in the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district, which shares borders with Kurnool and Guntur districts of AP. Until recently, vends in the border areas of Alampur and Macherla were the go-to spots for customers from Andhra Pradesh. Shops here were bustling with heavy footfall, thanks to the stark difference in liquor policies between the two states. Under former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's government, liquor was sold exclusively through government-run outlets across the state. The choice of brands was limited, quality often questionable, and the prices hefty; driving many AP customers across the border to embrace sellers in Telangana, where most popular brands were readily available at relatively affordable prices. With the change in government, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has overhauled the old liquor policy, granting licences to over 3,000 private and retail vendors. Liquor is now sold openly across AP, with greater availability of choices and at lower prices than before; yet slightly, costlier than in Telangana. This shift has resulted in nearly a 50% drop in liquor sales in Telangana's border towns to customers from AP. Narender, a resident of Kurnool living in the Alampur border area, observed that while prices in AP have reduced under the new policy, quality concerns persist. 'Even though the new policy has been implemented, people in border areas still prefer liquor from Telangana. As per my estimate, sales here have dropped only by 3–5% because of AP customers switching over. Many are still crossing the border due to quality differences. In AP, some brands cost at least Rs 10 more than in Telangana, and people are not happy with what's available,' he told 'The Hans India'. Laxmikanth Reddy of Alampur recalled the bustling scene at the Pullur toll plaza, which was once thronged by customers from AP before 2024. 'Now, the crowds are gone. The new policy has cut sales in border shops by almost half. Only a small fraction—maybe 2–5%—of AP customers still come here, mainly for better quality,' he observed. For shop owners in Mahabubnagar's border areas, the change has been swift and sharp. What was once a lucrative market, fuelled largely by AP-origin customers, has now declined; with only loyal, quality-conscious buyers making the rounds. While Telangana still retains an edge in brand variety and perceived quality, Andhra Pradesh's more competitive pricing and increased accessibility are shifting the balance. If the trend continues, the once-bustling liquor hubs along the Telangana-AP border may have to rethink their strategies—or risk toasting to the end of an era in cross-border wine sales.

Nagaland Governor La Ganesan dies at 80
The Nagaland government declared a seven-day state mourning from Saturday. During the period, the National Flag will be flown at half-mast while there would be no official entertainment by the state government departments, a Home Department notification said. Kohima/Chennai, Aug 15 (PTI) Nagaland Governor La Ganesan died on Friday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chennai, a Raj Bhavan official in Kohima said. A well-known BJP leader in Tamil Nadu with RSS roots, Ganesan has served as the governor of Manipur, West Bengal and Nagaland between 2021 and 2025. President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, and his Tamil Nadu, Assam, Sikkim and Tripura counterparts, M K Stalin, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Prem Singh Tamang and Manik Saha, respectively, and a host of other leaders condoled Ganesan's death. Ganesan was undergoing treatment at the ICU of the Chennai hospital for the past few days and he died on Friday night, the Kohima Raj Bhavan PRO said. The governor had left for his hometown Chennai in the later part of July and was supposed to return this week, but on August 8, he collapsed at his home and sustained a head injury, Raj Bhavan sources said. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where doctors admitted him to the ICU to undergo intensive monitoring and treatment. He breathed his last on Friday night, an official notification issued by the chief secretary here said. Condoling his death, President Murmu said, 'Saddened by the demise of Governor of Nagaland, Shri La Ganesan Ji… During his long public life, he worked for the welfare of the people. His contribution to the development of Tamil Nadu and the country will be remembered. I extend my deep condolences to his family and admirers.' Rio, who worked closely with Ganesan, remembered him as 'a man of integrity, principle, great wisdom, and moral strength'. Zeliang said Ganesan's passing was 'a great loss to the state and the nation'. 'During his tenure, he worked selflessly for the welfare of the people,' Zeliang said. Patton expressed 'deep shock and sadness', noting that Ganesan's tenure in Nagaland was marked by dedicated service, efforts to strengthen harmony, and a commitment to public welfare. Ganesan was appointed the 21st governor of Nagaland on February 12, 2023 and he assumed office on February 20 that year. Tamil Nadu CM Stalin, who paid tributes to Ganesan's mortal remains, hailed him as a rare leader noted for his political civility. 'He behaved with dignity by respecting leaders belonging to different ideologies. Ganesan had huge respect for late DMK leader and former CM M Karunanidhi and he showed love and regard for the chief minister as well,' Stalin said. Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed deep sorrow at Ganesan's death. 'He served the people of Nagaland with dedication, and commitment,'Acharya said. Sarma said, 'Anguished by the demise of the Hon'ble Governor of Nagaland Thiru La Ganesan Ji. He leaves behind a rich legacy of public service and organisation building.' 'On behalf of the people of Assam, we extend our deepest condolences to his family and well-wishers,' the CM added. Tamang, in his condolence message, said, 'A true patriot and statesman who devoted his life to the service of the nation, he touched countless lives with his simplicity, humility, and steadfast commitment to public welfare.' Manik Saha said, 'Deeply saddened by the passing of Hon'ble Governor of Nagaland, Sri La Ganeshan after brief hospitalization. May God grant his soul eternal peace.'
