He noted that the coalition govt is working in an unprecedented manner and that all SCs in the state are particularly happy with Naidu-led govt. He pointed out that the govt has initiated several welfare schemes for the welfare of the SCs.
He alleged that SC/ST atrocity cases increased in the state during the previous YSRCP regime. "The Commission will function beyond politics.
We will restore faith in the system which collapsed during the previous regime. The commission will ensure that all the SCs will get justice as per the law," said Jawahar. Israeli military will call up 50,000 reservists as it plans new phase of war in Gaza

Synopsis An Israeli military official announced plans to mobilize tens of thousands of reservists for a new operation in Gaza City, targeting areas with active Hamas presence. This expansion, awaiting final approval, aims to secure remaining hostages and eliminate future threats. AP Israeli soldiers uses binoculars to look at damaged buildings in the Gaza Strip, from southern Israel, Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025. (AP Photo/Ariel Schalit) An Israeli military official said on Wednesday that the country's top generals had approved plans to call up tens of thousands of reservists in order to begin a new phase of operations in some of Gaza's most densely populated areas. Speaking on the condition of anonymity in line with military regulations, the official said that the military will be operating in parts of Gaza City where the Israeli military has not yet operated and where Hamas is still active. Israeli troops are already operating in the Zeitoun and Jabaliya neighborhoods of Gaza City in order to prepare the groundwork for the expanded operation, which is expected to receive approval from the chief of staff in the coming days. It remains unclear when the operation will begin. The official said 50,000 reservists will be called up in the coming month, nearly doubling the number of active reservists to 120,000. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said earlier this month that the objective was to secure the release of the remaining hostages and ensure Hamas and other militants can never again threaten Israel. Hamas-led militants started the war when they attacked Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, killing some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and abducting 251. Most of the hostages have been released in ceasefires or other deals. Hamas says it will only free the rest in exchange for a lasting ceasefire and an Israeli withdrawal. The planned offensive into Gaza City and the central camps has heightened international condemnation of Israel and fueled fears of another mass displacement among Palestinians. Hundreds of thousands of displaced people are sheltering in the city and its holds some of the last remnants of critical infrastructure remaining in Gaza. Mediators and Hamas say they have agreed to cease-fire terms, but Israel's response remains unclear as members of Netanyahu's coalition oppose a phased deal that doesn't "complete the defeat of Hamas."

Andhra Pradesh CM inaugurates Ratan Tata Innovation Hubs

Agency: Amaravati, Aug 20 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday inaugurated Ratan Tata Innovation Hubs (RTIHs) at Amaravati and five more centres in the state. The CM was accompanied by Tata Group chairman N Chandrasekaran and other officials. CM Naidu inaugurated the RTIH zonal centres of Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Vijayawada, Anantapur and Tirupati virtually from the Amaravati hub. Named after former chairman of the Tata conglomerate, Ratan Tata, the RTIHs will foster innovation, entrepreneurship ecosystem and mentor startups. 'To keep his (Ratan Tata's) ideas alive, we wanted to create something. That is where this idea has come, Ratan Tata Innovation Hub," said Naidu, addressing the audience during the inaugural function. Ratan Tata died on October 9, 2024. Naidu said he discussed the idea over the phone with Chandrasekaran and the latter accepted it. 'This is where (what) we are thinking, if you (Chandrasekaran) don't have any objection, we wanted to promote his (Ratan Tata) brand for the benefit of this great nation," he said. Naidu said he had requested GMR Group to spearhead the Vizag RTIH, followed by Greenko (Rajahmundry RTIH), MEIL (Vijayawada RTIH), Adani Group (Tirupati RTIH) and Jindal company (Anantapur RTIH). The CM said India is positioned very well, especially after the 1991 reforms, which radically changed the country, and added that the nation enjoys a demographic dividend while several countries are beset with an aging crisis. Highlighting that youngsters can take risks, Naidu said no country can beat India if the population is well managed. In the last 11 years, he said, India rose from being the 11th largest economy to the fourth largest one and exuded confidence that the country will emerge as the third largest economy next year. Emphasising that Andhra Pradesh will become the number one place for innovation and entrepreneurship, Naidu said over 1.64 lakh people signed up for an online entrepreneurship or startup business programme in 24 hours, creating a Guinness world record. The CM had launched the 'Avishkarana Andhra' programme, which aims to create one entrepreneur per family, where the world record was achieved. Naidu said 175 industrial hubs will be created in all the 175 Assembly constituencies of the southern state. He promised to create wealth on one side and take care of the poor on the other. Moreover, he requested all entrepreneurs to help and handhold the RTIH concept to turn it into a success. NATO defence chiefs hold virtual meeting on Ukraine security guarantees

Agency: Last Updated: Kyiv, Aug 20 (AP) NATO defence chiefs were due to hold a virtual meeting Wednesday, a senior alliance official said, as countries pushing for an end to Russia's war on Ukraine devise possible future security guarantees for Kyiv that could help forge a peace agreement. Italian Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, chair of NATO's Military Committee, said that 32 defence chiefs from across the alliance would hold a video conference as a US-led diplomatic push seeks to end the fighting. US Gen. Alexus Grynkewich, NATO's supreme allied commander Europe, will take part in the talks, Dragone said on social platform X. US President Donald Trump met last Friday with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska and on Monday hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and prominent European leaders at the White House. Neither meeting delivered concrete progress. Trump is trying to steer Putin and Zelenskyy toward a settlement more than three years after Russia invaded its neighbour, but there are major obstacles. They include Ukraine's demands for Western-backed military assurances to ensure Russia won't mount another invasion in coming years. 'We need strong security guarantees to ensure a truly secure and lasting peace," Zelenskyy said in a Telegram post Wednesday after Russian missile and drone strikes hit six regions of Ukraine overnight. Kyiv's European allies are looking to set up a force that could backstop any peace agreement, and a coalition of 30 countries, including European nations, Japan and Australia, have signed up to support the initiative. Military chiefs are figuring out how that security force might work. The role that the US might play in is unclear. Trump on Tuesday ruled out sending US troops to help defend Ukraine against Russia. Russia has repeatedly said that it would not accept NATO troops in Ukraine. Attacks on civilian areas in Sumy and Odesa overnight into Wednesday injured 15 people, including a family with three small children, Ukrainian authorities said. Zelenskyy said the strikes 'only confirm the need for pressure on Moscow, the need to introduce new sanctions and tariffs until diplomacy works to its full potential."
