Passenger gets beaten on train after he complaints about overcharged food; video goes viral

Time of India18-07-2025
Train journeys have always been centered around nostalgia, family bonds, and cherishable moments where life slows down, and millions depend on Indian Railways every day for work, travel, and family visits.
But with such a huge number of travellers, passengers' experience and safety become important concerns. While authorities have introduced digital grievance platforms and helplines to make rail travel more responsive and comfortable, some recent incidents paint a worrisome picture.
Complaints about poor food quality or rude behaviour by train staff aren't new. But this has turned more worrisome as some of these situations are turning violent, especially when passengers try to speak up or report issues.
A recent video has gone viral on social media, where the situation went out of control when a passenger raised a valid complaint. Despite previous assurances and actions by Indian Railways and IRCTC, the recurrence of such incidents has brought serious concerns.
Viral video shows passenger being assaulted
A disturbing video has surfaced showing pantry staff assaulting a passenger aboard train number 11463, the Veraval-Jabalpur Somnath Express, allegedly in retaliation for a complaint about overcharging for food and water.
The video, which was posted on X by user @write2divya, shows two to three pantry staff members confronting and physically attacking a passenger in a sleeper coach. The user captioned the clip, "The video is of train number 11463. A complaint about overcharging for food and water was made through Twitter, but @RailwaySeva got their goons to beat up the passengers. @AshwiniVaishnaw ji has completely ruined the railway.
@RailMinIndia, tell us what action has been taken against the goons shown in the video?"
The incident reportedly occurred on July 15, 2025, as the train was running through the Baroda division.
In response to the viral post, @RailwaySeva replied on X, stating,
"The concerned authorities are being informed. @Drmjabalpur @Wrdrmrjt We are always available to assist you. We will need your PNR number and mobile number.
Please share your PNR number and mobile number with us via DM alternatively. You can also express your concern directly at http://Railmadad.indianrailways.gov.in or dial 139 for prompt resolution."
The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Jabalpur also issued an apology, writing, "Sir, we regret the inconvenience caused to you. The said complaint pertains to yesterday, dated 15.07.25, when the train was running in the Baroda division.
Nevertheless, considering it, correspondence is being made with IRCTC to cancel the contract of the side pantry of this train."
Unfortunately, this is not the only event with such chaos. In May, vlogger Vishal Sharma reported a similar assault by pantry staff on the Hemkunt Express after he lodged a complaint via the RailMadad app. According to IRCTC, the vendor's services were terminated for five years following that incident, with the ban subject to an additional two-year extension.

Teenager ‘fools' AIFF, pretends to be Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez to apply for India's football coach position

A 19-year-old allegedly pranked the All India Football Federation (AIFF) by pretending to be Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez. The teenager used a fake email to apply for India's football coach position. AIFF national team director Subrata Paul initially confirmed Xavi's application to The Times of India. A video shared on social media later showed the prank email from 'xaviofficialfcb@ AIFF rejected this application, citing affordability issues. Sports journalist Naman Suri has revealed on social media that it was actually a prank by the teenager. 'It wasn't Xavi who applied to coach India. It was a 19-year-old who used a fake email ID. I spoke to him and he showed me a screen recording from his Sent folder,' Suri posted on Twitter (now X). 'Yes, this might've been the email AIFF thought came from Xavi. Indian football deserves better,' he added. Barca Times also claimed on social media that Xavi had never applied for the post. 'People close to Xavi insist that he never applied for the head coach position of the Indian NT. They believe the All India Football Federation intentionally used his name to boost the profile of the role during their search for a new manager,' the independent fan media platform, with 1 million followers on Twitter, posted. Many social media users slammed AIFF for being 'corrupt and liars'. 'Legends don't chase roles, they attract narrative. And, right now, Xavi's story feels far from finished… especially in the Barça orbit,' wrote another. Another user wrote, 'If this is true it's a very shameful behaviour from All India Football Federation intentionally using a legend for clout chasing. Xavi deserves better!' 'The crooks at AIFF have gone down to a new low helped by some fake journalists. The person who claimed Xavi applied was actually accused of murder on a football field (though later cleared). Xavi should sue the AIFF for the truth to come out,' came from another.

'Will AI replace lawyers? Law intern asks to use ChatGPT for witness analysis, gets hard copies instead

As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to make inroads across industries, the legal profession is grappling with its place in traditional workflows. A recent viral post by senior advocate Sidharth Luthra on Twitter has sparked a fresh wave of debate.(AP) A recent viral post by senior advocate Sidharth Luthra on X has sparked a fresh wave of debate, after a law intern revealed he was prevented from using ChatGPT to analyse witness statements during an appeal case. The intern, who was assisting with legal work, had proposed using the AI tool to help process and interpret complex witness testimonies. However, his mentor reportedly dismissed the idea and instead handed him a stack of hard copies, telling him to rely on 'natural intelligence' over artificial intelligence. (Also Read: IT firm employee claims no salary hike for 3 years, wants to buy autorickshaw: 'Drive it before, after working hours') 'A law intern wanted to use Chat GPT to analyse witness statements for an appeal in my office. His mentor gave him hard copies to use natural Intelligence instead of artificial Intelligence [AI]!!!!,' Luthra wrote on X. The post caught fire on social media, with many users, including legal professionals, weighing in on what it says about the current attitude toward technology in law. How did X users react? 'AI can very well read and analyse hard copies as well. At times better than humans,' one user commented. 'Law practitioners must embrace AI, not oppose it.' Another responder shared a startling anecdote from the field, 'In some prominent police stations in Telugu states, officers are reportedly using ChatGPT to prepare remand copies. Statements were being recorded and processed by AI, all without the accused knowing. It was saving typing time and the sections were also accurate, they said.' Some took a more balanced view, noting the potential of AI when combined with human judgment. 'Natural intelligence combined with artificial intelligence is the way forward.' 'AI won't replace lawyers, but lawyers who use AI will replace those who don't, the next 5-7 years will prove this.' The exchange has since opened a wider conversation about how, and when, AI should be integrated into legal processes. While some see it as a threat to tradition, ethics, or even job security, others argue that AI tools like ChatGPT can streamline research, improve drafting accuracy, and eliminate repetitive tasks.
