Passenger gets beaten on train after he complaints about overcharged food; video goes viral
But with such a huge number of travellers, passengers' experience and safety become important concerns. While authorities have introduced digital grievance platforms and helplines to make rail travel more responsive and comfortable, some recent incidents paint a worrisome picture.
Complaints about poor food quality or rude behaviour by train staff aren't new. But this has turned more worrisome as some of these situations are turning violent, especially when passengers try to speak up or report issues.
A recent video has gone viral on social media, where the situation went out of control when a passenger raised a valid complaint. Despite previous assurances and actions by Indian Railways and IRCTC, the recurrence of such incidents has brought serious concerns.
Viral video shows passenger being assaulted
A disturbing video has surfaced showing pantry staff assaulting a passenger aboard train number 11463, the Veraval-Jabalpur Somnath Express, allegedly in retaliation for a complaint about overcharging for food and water.
The video, which was posted on X by user @write2divya, shows two to three pantry staff members confronting and physically attacking a passenger in a sleeper coach. The user captioned the clip, "The video is of train number 11463. A complaint about overcharging for food and water was made through Twitter, but @RailwaySeva got their goons to beat up the passengers. @AshwiniVaishnaw ji has completely ruined the railway.
@RailMinIndia, tell us what action has been taken against the goons shown in the video?"
The incident reportedly occurred on July 15, 2025, as the train was running through the Baroda division.
In response to the viral post, @RailwaySeva replied on X, stating,
"The concerned authorities are being informed. @Drmjabalpur @Wrdrmrjt We are always available to assist you. We will need your PNR number and mobile number.
Please share your PNR number and mobile number with us via DM alternatively. You can also express your concern directly at http://Railmadad.indianrailways.gov.in or dial 139 for prompt resolution."
The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Jabalpur also issued an apology, writing, "Sir, we regret the inconvenience caused to you. The said complaint pertains to yesterday, dated 15.07.25, when the train was running in the Baroda division.
Nevertheless, considering it, correspondence is being made with IRCTC to cancel the contract of the side pantry of this train."
Unfortunately, this is not the only event with such chaos. In May, vlogger Vishal Sharma reported a similar assault by pantry staff on the Hemkunt Express after he lodged a complaint via the RailMadad app. According to IRCTC, the vendor's services were terminated for five years following that incident, with the ban subject to an additional two-year extension.

'People close to Xavi insist that he never applied for the head coach position of the Indian NT. They believe the All India Football Federation intentionally used his name to boost the profile of the role during their search for a new manager,' the independent fan media platform, with 1 million followers on Twitter, posted. Many social media users slammed AIFF for being 'corrupt and liars'. 'Legends don't chase roles, they attract narrative. And, right now, Xavi's story feels far from finished… especially in the Barça orbit,' wrote another. Another user wrote, 'If this is true it's a very shameful behaviour from All India Football Federation intentionally using a legend for clout chasing. Xavi deserves better!' Hilton Head drowning: Indian man from Georgia drowns at South Carolina beach
An Indian national was identified as the victim of a drowning in US' South Carolina on Thursday. As per local reports, the 49-year-old from Georgia was caught in a rip current with his son while visiting a beach in Beaufort County in Hilton Head Island. After arriving at the scene, officials learnt at Kundu and his son were caught in a rip current while they were in the water.(Pexels/Representational) As per local reports, the man has been identified as Saumen Kundu, and was a resident of Georgia. In response to the incident, the Indian Consulate in Atlanta confirmed that the man was an Indian national. "We are deeply saddened by the news of a tragic drowning incident near Hilton Head Island that claimed the life of an Indian national. Consulate is coordinating with local authorities and humanitarian groups and extending full support to the family during this difficult time," wrote the consulate on X (formerly Twitter). As per ABC 4 News, the Beaufort County's Sheriff Office received a water emergency call around 7 PM local time. After arriving at the scene, officials learnt at Kundu and his son were caught in a rip current while they were in the water. "Mr. Kundu died on July 24, 2025 at approx. 7:51 pm on scene at a beach in Sea Pines from drowning. The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is the investigating police agency," the coroner's office released in a statement, as reported by WJCL. Bystanders who had heard Kundu and his son's calls for help rushed to their aid and tried to assist them. Hilton Head Island Fire and Rescue and Shore Beach Service arrived on scene and brought back both victims and the bystanders back to the shore. After both the victims were brought back to the shore, lifesaving measures were implemented. However, the 49-year-old Indian man was declared dead by first responders. As per law enforcement, Thursday's incident marked the fourth drowning in Beaufort County this summer. Earlier this month, another father drowned on Huntin Island after being caught in rough waters with his son. On June 30, a 69-year-old man drowned after he was pulled from the surf near Hilton Head's Coligny Beach Park. On July 1, a 65-year-old photographer was pulled out from the surf at Hunting Island State Park and pronounced dead.
