Mahershala Ali avoids question on Marvel's Blade amid delays: 'Leave me out of it'

Express Tribune3 days ago
Mahershala Ali has avoided addressing questions about Marvel's Blade reboot as the project continues to face delays. While promoting Jurassic World Rebirth, Ali, a two-time Oscar winner, appeared in Vogue's 'Off the Cuff' interview alongside co-stars Jonathan Bailey and Scarlett Johansson.
During a round of rapid-fire questions, Bailey asked Ali and Johansson how many Marvel Cinematic Universe films they had each appeared in. Ali responded with a laugh, 'Leave me out of it. That's a Scarlett question.'
Johansson, known for her role as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, has appeared in ten MCU titles since Iron Man 2 (2010). Bailey acknowledged Ali's upcoming solo outing, stating, 'Well, there's one that we're very excited about.'
Although Ali voiced Blade in a credits scene following 2021's Eternals, he has yet to appear physically in the MCU.
Marvel first announced the Blade reboot with Ali in 2019, but the project has faced several delays, including the departure of directors Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange, as well as the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike.
In 2024, Marvel removed Blade from its 2025 release schedule, adding to concerns about the project's future. However, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has maintained that the character will appear in the MCU.
'We love the character, we love Mahershala's version of him,' Feige said in November. 'Whenever we change direction with a project, or are still trying to figure out how it fits into our schedule, we let the public know.'
Marvel continues to reassess its schedule while confirming its commitment to bringing the character to the MCU.

Wonder Man could kick off MCU's Mutant Saga and X-Men era

Marvel Studios has released new teaser footage of Wonder Man as part of its 2025 programming lineup—and fans are buzzing. Starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, the Disney+ series is now rumored to be a key entry in the MCU's upcoming Mutant Saga, possibly connecting to the X-Men. While the footage offers only a brief glimpse of Wonder Man in costume, it's already fueling speculation online. With the series set for a December 2025 release, many believe this could be Marvel's way of subtly introducing mutant characters into the main timeline. New teaser for 'WONDER MAN' Coming to Disney+ this December. — Cosmic Marvel (@cosmic_marvel) July 8, 2025 In Marvel Comics, Wonder Man shares a strong bond with Beast (Hank McCoy)—a prominent mutant and former Avenger. With Kelsey Grammer's Beast confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday after his cameo in The Marvels, there's growing belief that Wonder Man could bridge the gap between mutants and the broader Avengers storyline. Although Grammer hasn't been announced for the series, a multiversal cameo or post-credits scene isn't out of the question. If Abdul-Mateen's Wonder Man crosses paths with Grammer's Beast—either in this series or a future film—it could lay the groundwork for introducing a new X-Men team post-Secret Wars. Past Marvel series like Ms. Marvel have already teased mutant DNA, and with Marvel heading full-speed into its Mutant Saga, Wonder Man could be the surprising launchpad for the X-Men's MCU debut. Fans should expect more details as the Wonder Man premiere approaches, but for now, all eyes are on Simon Williams—standing at the edge of Marvel's next major era.

Nicholas Hoult attends Superman premiere in Saint Laurent look

Nicholas Hoult appeared at the Superman premiere in Los Angeles dressed in a coordinated look from Saint Laurent's Fall 2025 menswear collection, styled by Jason Bolden. The outfit featured a structured black blazer paired with leather trousers, worn with a white shirt, black patent boots, and layered accessories including David Yurman rings and a Jaeger-LeCoultre watch. According to Bolden, the choice of outfit was directly inspired by Hoult's role as Lex Luthor. 'The collection just spoke to his character—tough and classic,' he said. 'We also wanted to nod to the past Lex Luthors by playing with classic suiting but with a modern approach.' Hoult's platinum blond buzzcut, which he first showed during an earlier Jimmy Kimmel Live appearance, remained part of the look. The hair change has been connected to his upcoming role in the film How to Rob a Bank. A behind-the-scenes photo diary shared by Vogue showed moments from Hoult's preparation, including his own description of the leather trousers as 'an experiment in chafing.' As part of the film's global press tour, Hoult has also been seen in pieces by Tom Ford, Haider Ackermann, Celine, Bottega Veneta, and Prada, maintaining a consistent focus on tailored, high-fashion menswear.

Disney's 20th Century Studios is producing the film, which is currently in production and scheduled for a theatrical release on May 1, 2026. The plot reportedly follows Miranda Priestly as she struggles to adapt to the digital age and fights for advertising revenue against her former assistant Emily, now a powerful fashion executive. Director David Frankel and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna are back on board, alongside producer Karen Rosenfelt. The Devil Wears Prada was based on Lauren Weisberger's bestselling novel inspired by her time at Vogue.
