Hyderabad Collector urges more enrolment in government schools
Speaking to the students at Syed Murtuza Hussaini Memorial Government Upper Primary School at Langar Houz in Golconda, the Collector said the Telangana government has been prioritising public education by investing crores of rupees to improve infrastructure and learning outcomes in government schools. The Collector also distributed uniforms and books to the students.
'Education is the real jewel. No matter how much wealth one has, without education, it is meaningless,' he said, addressing students and parents. He pointed out that each student of a government school in the State benefits from government expenditure of over ₹1 lakh annually, covering uniforms, teacher salaries, midday meals, textbooks, notebooks, and workbooks.
He also appealed to parents to spread awareness about the facilities available at government schools and motivate them to enrol their children. 'We want to see an increase in new admissions under the Badi Bata (Back to School) campaign,' he said.

Teacher turns math into play, boosting school attendance, enrollment
HYDERABAD/ MEDAK : Mathematics often sends students running in the opposite direction, but one government school teacher is trying to change that. Ravi Raj, a mathematics teacher at Mandal Parishad Upper Primary School (MPUPS) in Admapur, Narsapur mandal, uses his YouTube channel 'Raviraj Master' to make maths fun and approachable for children who struggle with the subject. Ravi started his channel during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020, posting videos to help students understand basic maths concepts at a time when classes shifted online. But it was in 2024, after he joined MPUPS Admapur, that he realised the scale of the problem. He realised that many students were unable to grasp basic concepts or solve simple problems. This, he noticed, was linked to poor attendance. Determined to find a solution, he introduced board games and puzzles into his lessons, blending learning with play. The approach worked — attendance, Ravi Raj says, rose from 45% to 95%. What began as a handful of videos soon grew into a large online resource. Today, his channel hosts over 1,600 videos and has about 1.5 million subscribers. 'The videos are not monetised. I see this as social service, not a source of income,' he says. His lessons have drawn praise from students across India and abroad, many of whom leave comments about how the content helps them. The impact shows at his school too. During this year's Badi Bata, this MPUPS saw enrolment climb from 53 students last year to 73 — and numbers may reach 100 in the coming weeks. Outside the classroom, the 43-year-old works with voluntary organisations to improve facilities. New benches, a lab, notebooks, ties and belts have been provided, with the teacher often spending from his own pocket. His efforts have drawn attention. Recently, Education Secretary Yogita Rana invited him to help develop MPUPS Admapur as a model school with state government support.

Complete vana mahotsavam targets, urges Collector
Khammam: District Collector Anudeep Durishetty said that officials should complete the target set under Vana Mahotsavam as planned. The Collector held a review with officials on the implementation of Vana Mahotsavam activities and Employment Guarantee Scheme at Penuballi Mandal MPDO office on Saturday. Anudeep said that in view of the necessity of trees for human survival, saplings should be planted, and their care should be taken under Vana Mahotsavam. He said that the number of plants available in the nurseries and the number of places identified for planting the plants should be in the plan. He said that plants above 8 feet in height should be planted for avenue plantation. He said that he would take action to plant 400 plants per km on the sides of the road, considering the extent of the highway. Later, the Collector reviewed the mandal target under the employment guarantee. He asked how many working days, what works were undertaken, and what major works were undertaken.

IT employees launch campaign to support needy students
Kochi: As schools reopened after summer vacation, a collective of IT employees in the city launched Back to School initiative to support students in need. As part of the programme, the organization launched a campaign to support children from poor families by requesting public to contribute study materials to volunteers of the organization. The campaign is being conducted for eighth year in a row under the banner of Progressive Techies, a collective of IT employees in Kerala. The organization installed Back to School donation boxes in all buildings of Infopark. Those who would like to be a part of the campaign can contribute materials such as books, bags, computers, pencils, pens, pencil boxes, umbrellas, water bottles, tiffin boxes, etc. Public can also contribute money for purchasing the materials. Amount for a school kit is fixed at Rs 800. Past editions of the campaign were a big success as many people, including NRIs, contributed a huge amount as donations. Last year, the organization managed to support around 4,500 students. The organization is expecting an increase in contributions this time.
