Coronation Street star Mason swaps cobbles for 'normal job' after dramatic axe

Yahoo15-03-2025

Coronation Street's Luca Toola, who played troubled Mason Radcliffe, has announced he is swapping the drama of a cobbles for a new job off-screen after his character was dramatically killed off just weeks ago.
Mason's journey on the soap came to a tragic end when ITV writers decided to axe the character. The 21-year-old met his demise after a fatal stabbing in a jaw-dropping episode, leaving no doors open for a return.
After a year and a half on Coronation Street, Luca shared to his social media followers that he's taken up teaching. Eager to share his craft, Luca will be engaging with upcoming talents through acting classes.

In an engaging clip, Luca announced: "I am keeping myself busy as best as possible and I am running some acting classes." Grateful for this new opportunity, he added: "I am teaching at Bee Rogue Talent so thank you to those guys."
Luca outlined what aspiring actors can expect: "It is going to be great and we are going to do a lot of script analysis, improvisation, character development and learning and teaching the craft of acting."
His enthusiasm was palpable as he continued: "I am super excited." Fans rushed to the comment section to praise the star, with one writing: "@lucatoolan congratulations hunnie you gonna smash this out the park."
An announcement by Bee Rogue talent stated: "Excited to announce we will be having Luca Toolan down to teach at our brand new classes. We can't wait to start this next exciting venture."
However, it seems this teaching stint might not be Luca's final act, as he hints at more screen time to come. With broadcasting in his blood—his father being radio icon Mike Toolan—Luca has teased his involvement in a forthcoming comedy series.
A new show titled 'Grass Roots' is about to bring a father-son duo to the stage in Preston, with 'Loose Women' star Sheree Murphy set to lead the cast as she returns to the limelight after a seven-year hiatus. Joining her in this pilot are familiar faces including Kim Tiddy of 'The Bill' and 'Hollyoaks' fame, and Zak Douglas, known for 'G'Wed' and Good Ship Murder.
Over in Weatherfield, Mason Radcliffe, played by Luca Toolan, met a tragic end on 'Coronation Street' when his brothers, Matty and Logan, viciously stabbed him with Dylan Wilson's knife in the play park.
Luca took to Instagram to voice his gratitude and bid adieu, sharing: "Thank you. What an honour and privilege it's been to be a part of this show, and to be trusted with this story. Truly. I've met some of the most incredible friends I'll cherish for life that have been beyond supportive and loving.
"I'm at a loss for words to quantify what they mean and what this experience has meant to me. Through the highs and the lows Liam, Charlie and Karen been there since day one.
"I owe them all so much. To the incredible army that makes this show and to the all the supporters of it thank you for making a lads dream come true. Thanks God always You've supported me through all. @charliespromisecharity."

Bobby Brazier is leaving popular BBC soap EastEnders after four years, according to reports. The actor, who is the son of late reality star Jade Goody and former footballer Jeff Brazier, was named runner up of Strictly Come Dancing in 2023. Brazier, who plays Freddie Slater in the BBC soap, will leave Albert Square by the end of this year, reports The Sun. The newspaper said an EastEnders spokeswoman revealed: 'We can confirm that Bobby Brazier will be leaving EastEnders, and we wish him all the best for the future.' Stephen Mulhern makes unprecedented blunder on ITV's Catchphrase

Game show host Stephen Mulhern sent celebrity contestants into hysterics with a rare blunder while hosting ITV's Catchphrase. The show, which asks contestants to identify a well-known phrase or idiom based on a short animated clip, featured Jeremy Vine, Charlie Hedges and comedian Luke Kempner on the latest episode. At one point, a clip was shown depicting pastries with escalating price tags, which are then shown bursting through the roof of the building. Narrating the clip in an effort to encourage answers, Mulhern remarked: 'Literally, the prices have gone through the roof!' However, he quickly realised that he had given away the answer in its entirety. 'Sorry, what? Was that the answer?' said Jeremy Vine, after buzzing in. 😱 @StephenMulhern makes a HUGE mistake - for the first time in 10 years! — Catchphrase (@Catchphrase) June 7, 2025 "I have never in my life done that. In 10 years!" Mulhern said, with his head in his hands. 'I was just thinking 'this is a very tricky one, if it's not that!' added Kempner, who then joked that Mulhern had taken his prize money tally up to £200. Vine remarked that the incident represented 'a bit of Catchphrase history'. Catchphrase first began in 1986 and was hosted by Irish comedian Roy Walker. He was succeeded by Nick Weir in 2000, and Mark Curry in 2002 before the series was cancelled that year. Mulhern began hosting the revival in 2012, which initially involved members of the public as contestants. Since 2018, the programme has featured celebrity contestants, who compete to win money for charity. Celebrity Catchphrase was recently renewed for an 11th series on ITV. ITV commissioner Gemma John-Lewis said: 'We're delighted to announce a further series of the much-loved family favourite, Celebrity Catchphrase. 'The only show where you say what you see, the hugely popular series continues to win legions of fans and with Stephen's infectious and playful humour it's a firm favourite with our viewers.'

‘Strictly Come Dancing' Contestant Suspended By BBC After Using Offensive 'Disability-Related' Language On Set

The BBC has suspended one of its most familiar soap stars after he was heard using a slur against people with disabilities on a TV set, using the phrase to describe the people of Blackpool where he was filming. BBC News reports that 'EastEnders' actor Jamie Borthwick made the remark in November during filming for Strictly Come Dancing (called Dancing with the Stars in many productions overseas), in which he was a contestant for last year's series. Borthwick has been in EastEnders since 2006, playing a central character called Jay Brown, and The Sun on Sunday newspaper reports that he has apologized for any 'offence and upset.' In his statement to The Sun on Sunday, Borthwick said: 'I want to apologise sincerely and wholeheartedly for the words I used in the video showing my reaction to making it through Blackpool week on Strictly.' He added: 'It is no excuse, but I did not fully understand the derogatory term I used and its meaning. 'That is on me completely. 'Now I am aware, I am deeply embarrassed to have used the term and directed it in the way I did.' Strictly Come Dancing has had a run of controversial incidents in the past year, including Borthwick's fellow contestant last series Wynne Evans being overheard making a misogynistic remark about his dance partner. Evans has not had his BBC Radio Wales contract renewed, it was reported last week.
