Looking at best remaining NFL free agents after the 2025 draft
The Atlanta Falcons managed to address their two biggest needs in the 2025 NFL draft, but they probably aren't done tinkering with their roster. Expect the team to add a few more free agents before the start of the 2025 season rolls around in September.
The Falcons could still look to upgrade the center position after losing Drew Dalman. Plus, we wouldn't be surprised to see the team add another wide receiver, running back or defensive lineman in free agency. Here's a look at the top remaining NFL free agents following the 2025 draft.

Vikings Emerge as Possible Landing Spot for Packers Star
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers are hated rivals. Both the teams and fans very much dislike each other, as is the case with most teams in the NFC North division. Over the last couple of years, the division has become the best in the NFL. Last season, three of the four teams were playoff teams. The Chicago Bears were the only team that missed out, although they had an impressive offseason and should be vastly improved in 2025. On Monday, the Packers made a major move that the Vikings could capitalize on. They chose to release longtime star cornerback Jaire Alexander. Cornerback Jaire Alexander #23 of the Green Bay Packers gets set during the second quarter of an NFL football game against the Arizona Cardinals, at Lambeau Field on October 13, 2024 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. What better way to get that help than by going out and signing Alexander now that he is a free agent? That is exactly what Kay Adams suggested to Alexander in a segment on the "Up & Adams" show. "Go to the Vikings. They need a corner!" she said. Pro Football Focus analyst Trevor Sikkema also named Minnesota as one of the top potential landing spots for Alexander ahead of the 2025 season. Alexander is still one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. Unfortunately, injuries have held him back in a big way over the last couple of years. He has played in just seven games in each of the last two seasons. Last year, Alexander recorded 16 tackles, a fumble recovery, two interceptions, a defensive touchdown, and seven defended passes. He's still more than capable of making a huge impact. Read more: Steelers Could Make Huge Splash With Former Aaron Rodgers Teammate Adding the 28-year-old cornerback would also bring more of an edge to the Vikings' defense. He would be out to prove himself after being released by Green Bay and would have extra motivation to prove his old team wrong for giving up on him. As for the Packers, this would be a nightmare scenario. They know just how good Alexander is capable of being. Him landing with Minnesota would make a tough situation much worse. Expect to hear a lot of rumors and speculation about Alexander in the coming hours and days. He's a star hitting the market just before the season. Plenty of teams are going to come calling with interest, and it would not be surprising to see the Vikings be one of those teams. Iowa hires former NFL GM Scott Pioli as consultant following House settlement
Iowa's athletics department has hired former Kansas City Chiefs general manager and New England Patriots executive Scott Pioli as a consultant to help the football program transition into a new financial model. The move comes as universities prepare to pay athletes directly in response to the landmark House settlement approved last week. Advertisement Pioli, 60, worked alongside Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz with the Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Ravens from 1992-96, and the two have fostered a close relationship over the last three decades. Pioli has attended Iowa football practices and was retained last fall in preparation for the athletic department sharing revenue with Iowa athletes. Pioli will continue to work with all of Iowa's programs, but his expertise lies with football. At New England, Pioli was the Patriots' vice president of player personnel when the team won three Super Bowls and was named the Pro Football Writers Association's executive of the year three times. Pioli was the Chiefs' general manager from 2009-12, and then served as Atlanta Falcons assistant general manager from 2014-19. He has since worked as an NFL analyst for SiriusXM, NBC Sports and NFL Network. Iowa will share the maximum allowable amount of money under the House settlement, which is $20.5 million, with as much as 75 percent going toward the football program. In addition to bringing on Pioli, Iowa has established a cap management structure that includes general managers for each sport. Marcus Wilson will serve as executive senior associate athletics director for cap management and administration, while Scott Brickman, the department's general manager for NIL and strategy through a partnership with Altius Sports Partners, will review and approve all agreements. Financial parameters related to the $2.8 billion House settlement, which was approved on Friday night by Judge Claudia Wilken, go into effect on July 1.

Bengals to release linebacker Germaine Pratt, saving $5.6M on salary cap, AP sources say
The Cincinnati Bengals are releasing linebacker Germaine Pratt, two people with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press. The people spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the move has not been announced. NFL Network first reported Pratt's release. The move comes on the eve of the Bengals mandatory minicamp, which starts Tuesday. The move gives the Bengals $5.6 million in salary cap savings. Pratt, who was going into the final season of a three-year contract, was one of the longest-tenured Bengals but requested a trade during the offseason. He was a third-round pick in 2019 and started 88 games over six seasons. He was ninth in the NFL last season with 143 tackles, including two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two interceptions. Cincinnati has had plenty of questions about the defense during the offseason. It hired Al Golden as coordinator while defensive end Trey Hendrickson, who led the league in sacks last season, has been involved in his own contract dispute. ___ AP NFL:
