Man posing as cop held for exploiting 20 women nationwide
AGRA: Muzaffarnagar Police on Tuesday arrested a man accused of posing as a police constable to deceive and sexually exploit more than 20 women across several states. The accused, identified as Naushad Tyagi, 30, allegedly used the alias Rahul Tyagi and wore a fake police uniform to gain the trust of vulnerable women and manipulate them into relationships.
SSP Sanjay Kumar Verma said Naushad, a school dropout, targeted women on social media who lived alone, many of whom were widowed or separated from their husbands. He would then sexually exploit them before disappearing from their lives.
His activities spanned multiple cities, including Delhi,
Ghaziabad
, Bulandshahr, Mathura, Sambhal, Muzaffarnagar, and even parts of Assam and Meghalaya. During interrogation, Naushad admitted to having 18–20 girlfriends and confessed to physically exploiting at least 10 of them.
The matter came to light when one of the women filed a complaint at the city police station, after which the case was handed over to DSP (City) Raju Kumar. Naushad, a resident of Charthawal in Muzaffarnagar, was arrested and a fake police uniform was recovered from him. He has been booked under several sections, including BNS Section 69 (sexual intercourse obtained through deceit).
SSP Verma said Naushad had been using the fake uniform, allegedly stolen from a real constable friend in Sambhal, for over two years. He even mingled with actual police personnel without revealing his true identity. Legal action is underway, and police have urged other potential victims to come forward.

(HT Photo) The arrested accused have been identified as Gurjeet Singh, Shivraj Singh, Manoj Kumar alias Amit, Balwinder Singh alias Jashan, and Mandeep Singh alias Deepu—all residents of Amritsar. Notably, Jashan and Deepu are scrap dealers who allegedly bought the stolen tyres. Deputy commissioner of police (DCP city) Rupinder Singh said the gang had been active in Ludhiana for the past month. 'The accused conducted recces in residential colonies, marking new cars and SUVs, and targeted them at midnight. Ludhiana: DNA test reports on rescued child beggars expected next month
Over three weeks after DNA tests were conducted on six rescued child beggars and the adults accompanying them to ascertain parentage, the district administration is still waiting for the report. District child protection officer (DCPO) Rashmi Saini said they have been informed by the competent officials that the reports would be out by September. District child protection officer Rashmi Saini said they have been informed by the competent officials that the reports would be out by September. (HT Photo) On July 20, the district administration, under project Jeevanjyot 2.0, raided various areas of the city and rescued 18 kids. While the accompanying adults of 12 kids submitted credible claim of parentage, six were suspected to be cases of child trafficking. These six kids and their accompanying adults were DNA tested on 23 July to ascertain if they shared any biological relation with the kids. Meanwhile, five of the 12 kids for whom their accompanying adults provided a parentage claim have been handed back to their parents. The parents of the rest of the kids are still submitting the documents and once they are verified the kids will be handed over to them. 'These people hail from far away states. They are taking time to bring documents, like birth certificates, to prove parentage,' said DCPO Rashmi. Forensic sciences laboratory (Kharar) director, Dr Rajnish, when asked about the time period in which the lab is supposed to produce the DNA reports, he said, 'We don't have any such guidelines. Rules regarding it haven't been framed yet.' Meanwhile, the children continue to be lodged at the children's home in Doraha, waiting for the reports to find out what the future holds for them. The Jeevanjyot 2.0 project draft reads, 'If DNA tests match, the child shall be restored to the family. The authorities shall issue a warning to the family to not indulge the child into begging. The DCPO shall provide counselling to the family to enrol the children in schools and about the ill effects of keeping the child on streets.' If parents still put kids to begging, the draft calls for the parents to be declared 'unfit guardians' and 'the child shall be sent to children home and the child shall be declared legally free for adoption.' And if the tests turn out negative, the child welfare committee will initiate legal action by filing an FIR under the BNS, Juvenile Justice Act, Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act, or other relevant legislation against the adults found accompanying them. Additionally, the child's photos and details will be uploaded on the 'Track the Child' portal to trace their biological parents for rehabilitation. DC Himanshu Jain had on 21 July established a committee to ensure the seamless execution of DNA testing after the attempt at DNA testing failed on 21 July due to lack of clarity on guidelines. The committee comprises the district child protection officer, representatives from the police commissioner, and the civil surgeon, tasked with overseeing the DNA testing process under Project Jeevanjot 2.0 to combat child trafficking and exploitation.

JJB issues notice to cops after teen alleges custodial torture
Noida: The Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) has issued a notice to Noida police following allegations by a 14-year-old boy that he was illegally detained and assaulted in custody with a belt. The boy's family also accused the cops of harassment. The incident traces back to an FIR filed on July 27 under Section 305 of the BNS (theft in a dwelling house) at Sector 126 police station. Anwar Khan, a resident of Raipur Khadar village, reported the theft of two mobile phones, two gold rings, a silver anklet, and Rs 17,000 in cash while he and his flatmate were asleep. His flatmate's three mobile phones were also stolen, Khan claimed. According to police records, the 15-year-old juvenile and co-accused Vishal Ahirwar (20) were apprehended on Aug 14 in connection with the theft. The cops claimed to have recovered six mobile phones, Rs 2,500 in cash, an anklet, and two rings from the duo. Both accused, they said, confessed to committing the theft on July 26. He alleged that around 5.30pm on Aug 8 — and not Aug 14 as claimed by police — he was forcibly taken by the cops and held overnight at the station. He recounted a harrowing ordeal, where cops allegedly assaulted his mother, confiscated her phone, and extorted Rs 6,500 before taking him to custody. The boy wasn't spared either. "While I was in the (Sector 126) police station, the inspector hit me with a belt on both my palms and wrists and also on the soles of my feet. I felt a lot of pain and was screaming. I told him not to hit me, but he wouldn't stop," he added. The ordeal didn't stop at that. The teenager alleged that between Aug 11 and 13, the police transported him to Mahoba and Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, lodging him in hotels without informing his family. He was kept at the police station for two days before being admitted to an observation home on Aug 15. On Aug 18, he was presented in court without his family being even informed about it. The JJB — acknowledging the "serious allegations" — has ordered the Sector 126 SHO to preserve CCTV footage from Aug 8 to 15 and submit it within 48 hours. The board also criticised the investigating officer, Yogesh Chaudhary, for attempting to mislead the panel and behaving improperly. "Assistant Commissioner of Police, Gautam Budh Nagar, is directed to initiate investigation against the Investigating Officer Yogesh Choudhary in the above case for offences under JJ Act and BNS," read the order by principal magistrate (JJB) Ankita Singh. The order also specified that the inquiry against Choudhary should examine violations of the JJ Act, including improper apprehension, denial of bail, and failure to inform the child's parents or probation officer. It will also look into "possible offences" of cruelty to a child under JJ Act and for wrongful confinement and disobeying the law with intent to cause injury under the BNS. District child protection unit has been asked to appoint a counsellor for the boy and submit a report within a week. The child welfare police officer must also explain the failure to follow the due process in custody under the JJ Act. As of now, the boy will stay in the observation home till Aug 20. "The Police Commissioner of Gautam Budh Nagar is to ensure a thorough investigation and appropriate action against the officer, while the District Legal Services Authority will provide legal aid to the child," the board said. Told about the allegations of custodial torture, DCP (Noida) Yamuna Prasad said, "We are investigating the matter and the allegations levelled by the minor boy."
