Nitin Gadkari Awards Maruti Suzuki Dzire With 5-Star BNCAP Rating, Baleno Receives 4 Stars
Maruti Suzuki India Limited, India's passenger vehicle market leader, was presented a comprehensive 5-star rating for the all-new Dzire in Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Bharat NCAP) by Shri Nitin Gadkari, Hon'ble Minister of Road Transport and Highways. With the 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, the All-New Dzire becomes India's first sedan to receive this recognition. The other model tested under Bharat NCAP was the Baleno that scored an impressive 4-star.
In addition, demonstrating its commitment towards safety, Maruti Suzuki, announced that within this year, all passenger vehicles sold by the company will be equipped with 6 airbags. Currently, the Company offers a wide portfolio of 10 models with 6 airbags as a standard feature across variants. These models are Alto K10, Celerio, WagonR, Eeco, Swift, Dzire, Brezza, Grand Vitara, Jimny and Invicto. Furthermore, well ahead of regulatory requirements, Maruti Suzuki offers Electronic Stability Program as a standard feature across all variants, all models, the widest portfolio in the country.
Speaking on the results, Shri Nitin Gadkari - Hon'ble Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India said, "It gives me immense pride to see Made-in-India high volume mainstream cars achieve exemplary safety ratings under the Bharat New Car Assessment Program. This program incorporates rigorous and comprehensive, testing and evaluation standards that are comparable with global safety protocols. Hon'ble Minister added, "I am also pleased to see that Maruti Suzuki, a mass market manufacturer, has fast-paced adoption of 6 airbags as standard across all variants of models covering all the segments. Six airbags from an entry hatchback to a premium SUV, is a significant stride by Maruti Suzuki towards vehicle safety. I am sure this will encourage other manufacturers to make 6 airbags a standard feature across all variants of their models. While the car industry strengthens its vehicle safety protocols, I strongly urge all 2 and 4-wheeler users, and pedestrians alike, to follow traffic rules, fasten seat belts and make road safety a shared responsibility."

As standard, the Baleno comes with dual airbags, the top-end variants come with six airbags. Notify me Bharat NCAP has just released crash test results for the Baleno. The findings indicated slightly varying scores for each version. The version with 6 airbags secured a score of 26.52 out of 32.00 points for adult occupant safety, while the version with 2 airbags attained a score of 24.04 out of 32.00. Nevertheless, both versions achieved an identical score of 34.81 out of 49 for child occupant safety. However, the ratings diverged in the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test. The variant with 6 airbags scored 12.50 out of 16.00, in contrast to the 2 airbags variant, which scored 14.99 out of 16.00. Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Baleno go under Bharat NCAP. Here are the safety features
Bharat NCAP, India's official car safety rating body, recently crash-tested two of Maruti Suzuki's most popular models—the Dzire and the Baleno. The results revealed a major milestone for Maruti Suzuki, as the Dzire became the brand's first sedan to receive a full five-star rating for both Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and Child Occupant Protection (COP) under the Bharat NCAP safety protocols. The Dzire stood out with its impressive safety credentials. Equipped with six airbags, an electronic stability program (ESP), hill hold assist, and ABS with EBD, the compact sedan offers a comprehensive suite of safety features. It also includes a 360-degree parking camera, front seatbelts with pretensioners and load limiters, and speed-sensitive auto door locks. Additional features such as high-speed alert, ISOFIX child seat mounts, three-point seatbelts for all occupants, rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, fog lamps, and a tyre pressure monitoring system further enhance its safety profile. In Bharat NCAP tests, the Dzire scored 29.46 out of 32 for adult occupant protection and 41.57 out of 49 for child occupant protection. This impressive performance follows its earlier achievement of a five-star rating in the Global NCAP crash tests in November 2024. In detailed evaluations, it earned 14.17/16 in the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test and 15.29/16 in the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test. The Baleno, Maruti's premium hatchback, also fared well but fell slightly short of Dzire's results. It was tested in two variants—one with six airbags and the other with just two. Both models came equipped with essential safety technologies, including ESP, ABS with EBD, hill hold assist, 360-degree parking camera, and front seatbelt pretensioners. The hatchback also features an auto-dimming IRVM, high-speed alert system, ISOFIX mounts, and reverse parking sensors. In crash test assessments, the six-airbag variant scored 26.52 out of 32 for adult protection, while the two-airbag variant secured 24.04. Both achieved a score of 34.81 out of 49 for child occupant protection. During the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test, both variants posted identical scores of 11.54 out of 16. However, the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test showed a reversal—where the six-airbag variant scored 12.50, the two-airbag variant surprisingly outperformed it with 14.99 out of 16.

Elevated Rotary Road Being Explored For Medical Square: Gadkari
1 2 3 4 Nagpur: An ambitious project to alleviate traffic woes at the busy Medical Square is being contemplated by Union minister Nitin Gadkari . The Nagpur MP on Thursday said he is ideating upon a project to build an elevated rotary road to help ease the traffic flow. In a brief statement about it, Gadkari said, "At Ashok Chowk, we are planning to construct a signal-less square, like a roundabout rotary. Another thing I have in mind is, Medical Square. To build an elevated road (rotary) there." The Union minister clarified that these are in the conceptualization stage. Regarding the Liberty Square flyover, Gadkari said that the design is faulty, but it will be rectified. "I have already prepared a proposal for Rs34 crore and it has been sent for clearance. A new design has been readied for it," said Gadkari, while addressing the media on Thursday. The flyover has three landings, one at Katol Road, one at Mankapur and one between LIC Square and RBI Square. It's the landing at the latter section which is being redesigned, and it's likely that another landing might connect on the road going towards LIC Square. At this point Gadkari even called his official from the sidelines and enquired about the status of that file. After speaking with the official, Gadkari said "Work will start soon and the problem will be solved. Giving an update on other flyovers of the city, Gadkari first spoke about the Kadbi Chowk flyover going towards Mominpura. "All permissions have been taken and the issue (for delay) is due to encroachment at Mominpura. We have given the work to MahaRail and this will benefit everyone because directly from Mominpura you can connect to Kamptee Road." About the Pachpaoli flyover, Gadkari said, "For the flyover from Kamal Talkies, we are using the latest technology from Malayasia for construction. At Kamal Chowk, we will build a huge market where all vendors will get space." He added that a lot of flyovers have been built or approved for Nagpur, which will ultimately provide succour for traffic movement. In East Nagpur, which has got many flyover projects, Gadkari joked that there is now no space remaining. "MLA Krishna Khopde has got so many projects approved that no space is left vacant. I told him that only a 2m wide lane remains in one of the localities, and maybe we should construct one flyover here too," said Gadkari.
