Why the Jets are lucky to have avoided the unpredictable Aaron Rodgers situation this offseason

The saga surrounding Aaron Rodgers has turned into one of the NFL's most unpredictable offseason storylines. With every week that passes, the former New York Jets and Green Bay Packers quarterback manages to remain at the center of speculation without making any definitive move.
Despite persistent links to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Rodgers has yet to commit—keeping fans, analysts, and even teams guessing.
Jets escape Aaron Rodgers rollercoaster that's still dragging on with zero resolution
In hindsight, the New York Jets may have dodged a major offseason headache by parting ways with Aaron Rodgers. While the idea of pairing a Hall of Fame quarterback with a young, promising roster once seemed like the blueprint to Super Bowl contention, the ongoing drama surrounding Rodgers' next move proves the Jets may have made the right call by moving on.
Pittsburgh may be waiting with open arms—but it's clear now that waiting on Rodgers comes with baggage.
Aaron Rodgers is "absolutely" worth the wait for Steelers with the lack of a QB room | THE FACILITY
The offseason has been anything but straightforward for Rodgers. He's made headlines, not for his football activity, but for his silence and cryptic comments. Despite strong ties to the Pittsburgh
Steelers
, a deal remains unsigned. Rodgers hasn't fully committed to returning to the field, let alone joining a new team. As NFL insider Tom Pelissero noted, 'He has not affirmatively told the Steelers that he's coming… That has not happened as of this point.'
For a franchise looking to solidify its quarterback room, that level of uncertainty is nothing short of a gamble.
Meanwhile, the Jets have quietly shifted focus. With Zach Wilson gone and the team investing in more sustainable quarterback options, they've been able to build with clarity—something Rodgers hasn't provided since the season ended. His stint in New York was marred by injury and unfulfilled expectations, and now the Jets find themselves free of the speculation circus that tends to follow the four-time MVP wherever he goes.
This offseason has highlighted how difficult it is to build around someone as unpredictable as Rodgers. As ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported, 'They [the Steelers] have had contact with Aaron Rodgers… but there is just nothing fast and firm yet.' That lack of commitment leaves Pittsburgh in limbo, developing quarterbacks like Mason Rudolph and Will Howard without knowing if Rodgers will ever walk through the door.
From public podcasts to national talk shows, Rodgers has dropped hints about his future without revealing any real direction.
On The Pat McAfee Show, he acknowledged dealing with personal issues, adding another layer of ambiguity. His vague mention of a team that 'plays in Chicago' during the You Know What I Mean podcast only deepened the mystery. For a team trying to prepare for the season, this kind of drama is the last thing anyone needs.
The Jets, by contrast, are no longer waiting for a quarterback who might or might not suit up. They've moved past the shadow of uncertainty and can now focus on cohesion and consistency.
Rodgers' ability to generate headlines has never been in question—but his willingness to lead a team through a full, drama-free offseason certainly has.
In a league where clarity and preparation are key, the Jets may have done themselves a favor. As the Steelers await an answer that may never come, New York is moving forward. And in the chaotic world of NFL quarterback situations, that's not just a win—it's a blessing.

Jonnu Smith eyes long-term future with Miami Dolphins despite trade rumors

Photo by Perry Knotts/Getty Jonnu Smith's future in Miami may be clouded by trade speculation, but his commitment to the Dolphins remains as strong as ever. The Pro Bowl tight end, fresh off a record-breaking season, has expressed a clear desire to stay put. According to his agent Drew Rosenhaus, Smith's heart—and home—are in Miami, where he has not only flourished on the field but also built a life off it. Despite the business side of the NFL looming large, Smith isn't looking for a change of scenery. Miami Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith focused on staying in Miami for 2025 Despite putting up the best numbers of his eight-year NFL career, Jonnu Smith has been at the center of offseason trade discussions. Rosenhaus, speaking to WSVN-7, emphasized that the veteran tight end has no desire to leave Miami and hopes to continue his career in South Florida. "Here's what I will say on behalf of my client: Jonnu would definitely like to stay in Miami," Rosenhaus said. "That's his first choice. This is where he lives in the off-season. He had a record-breaking season last year. It was the best season ever for a Miami Dolphin tight end. "... He broke the team record for receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns for a tight end and was the team's single Pro Bowl player. He's an incredibly valuable part of this team. ... He went to college at FIU. His dream team is the Dolphins." Smith's 2024 campaign included 88 receptions, 884 yards, and eight touchdowns—setting new single-season franchise marks for a tight end. He outperformed his prior best season, also with Miami, and enters the second year of a two-year deal set to pay him $3.49 million in 2025. Financial considerations, however, could complicate things. His breakout has increased his value considerably, which may tempt Miami to explore trade options. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport weighed in during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, suggesting that moving high-priced cornerback Jalen Ramsey could make room to retain Smith. "Jonnu Smith is one [tight end teams are exploring]," Rapoport said. "It feels to me like he wants more money and would like to stay. ... Trading Ramsey might help Jonnu Smith get the contract he wants." Whether Jonnu Smith remains a Dolphin hinges on more than just loyalty—it's about cap space and future planning. But if it were up to the tight end, he's made his choice loud and clear: Miami is home. Also Read: Jamie Erdahl Leads All-Women 'Good Morning Football' Special on NFL Network

Peyton Manning shares key Bill Belichick update that might disappoint fans

Peyton Manning shared some news that may disappoint football fans. Bill Belichick will not be returning to ManningCast for the 2025 NFL season. Belichick, a six-time Super Bowl champion, was a weekly guest on the show in 2024. He joined after leaving the New England Patriots and gave fans smart and honest football analysis. Many viewers loved his coaching stories and dry sense of humor. Now, Belichick has a new full-time job. He's the head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels football team. That means he's too busy to be on TV every week. "Obviously, [Belichick] seems busy right now coaching college football," Peyton told 97.1 The Fan. "So, he won't be back this year. He'll be hard to replace, like, I thought his insight was great." ManningCast, which started in 2021, is part of Monday Night Football on ESPN. It's made by Peyton's company, Omaha Productions. He co-hosts the show with his brother, Eli Manning. The show mixes game analysis with jokes and fun interviews with famous guests. Belichick added a serious football voice to the mix during the 2024 season. Now that Belichick is gone, the show will go back to having different guests each week. "We'll try to probably go back to, kind of, rotating guests and, you know, having coaches and players, which I always like their insight," Peyton explained. "But also the actors and musicians that, you know, the common criteria to be a guest is you gotta love football. And I love, and Eli and I both love, being around people who love football as much as we do in all different walks of life." Belichick recently signed a five-year deal to coach the Tar Heels. It's his first college coaching job in many years. He is now focused on recruiting, building his coaching staff, and leading North Carolina in the ACC. Peyton didn't rule out Belichick coming back someday. But for now, he's fully focused on his new team. ManningCast will return for its fifth season on Monday, September 8, when the Minnesota Vikings play the Chicago Bears.
