The singer said she will be taking a break for recovery.
UK pop singer Jessie J, whose real name is Jessica Ellen Cornish, has revealed that she has been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer.
The Bang Bang hitmaker shared the news on Instagram this week.
'Cancer sucks in any form, but I'm holding onto the word 'early'. I have been in and out of tests throughout this whole period,' she shared.
The 37-year-old singer said she decided to go public with the news as sharing has helped her.
'I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me — with other people giving me their love and support, and also their own stories.
'I'm an open book. It breaks my heart that so many people are going through similar or even worse. That's the bit that kills me,' she added.
Jessie said she received her diagnosis before releasing her hit song No Secrets in April this year.
'To get diagnosed with this as I'm putting out a song called No Secrets, right before putting out a song called Living My Best Life, which was all pre-planned before I found out about this — I mean, you can't make it up.'

Jessie J admitted to hospital six weeks after surgery

Jessie J has shared that she was hospitalised, just six weeks after undergoing surgery for breast cancer. The 37-year-old singer revealed her early-stage cancer diagnosis in April this year. She subsequently had a mastectomy followed by breast reconstruction. In an update to her fans on Sunday morning, 3 August 2025, she mentioned she unexpectedly fell ill and found herself back in hospital. Jessie J announced her breast cancer diagnosis early June 2025. While the news was undoubtedly distressing, she found comfort in the fact that the cancer was detected at an early stage. On 23 June 2025, the singer underwent surgery to remove the cancer, followed by breast reconstruction shortly thereafter. By 7 July 2025, Jessie took to Instagram to share news that her surgery was successful. In addition to that, her results showed no signs of cancer. The singer shared news of her hospitalisation early Sunday morning, 3 August 2025, on her Instagram story. 'How I spent the last 24 hours,' she wrote in a caption, alongside a photo of a cannula inserted into her arm. 'Six weeks post surgery and I was back in the same ward I was after my surgery,' she wrote. 'Not expected or planned.' The singer revealed that she had been experiencing symptoms that suggested a blood clot. After undergoing tests, it turned out it wasn't a blood clot but an infection and fluid in her lungs instead. Despite struggling to breathe, she chose to discharge herself on 2 August 2025 and plans to continue treatment as an outpatient. Next Stay Close ✕ In June, Jessie J opened up about her diagnosis in an emotional Instagram video, explaining her initial hesitation to go public with her health struggles. Ultimately, she decided it was essential to share her journey with the fans who have loved her through thick and thin. 'Honestly, I need to process it and talk about it and I need a hug,' she reflected at the time. She has made it a point to openly document both the highs and lows of her health adventure, sharing numerous hospital photos and expressing solidarity with those facing their own battles. On June 27, Jessie J clarified that while she hoped for positive news regarding her health, the complexities of the cancer journey meant she would remain patient and realistic. 'I pray it will be true soon,' she wrote, emphasising that recovery from such an illness is not always straightforward. This latest health update comes after Jessie J revealed to BBC Radio 2 that she had turned down a significant opportunity to perform on Broadway as Sally Bowles in "Cabaret'. With her son still very young, she felt it was not the right time to take on such a demanding role. 'I will do it at some point, and it was an amazing audition process,' she remarked, expressing pride in her accomplishments and her theatre background. Jessie J has faced numerous health challenges throughout her life, including a heart condition during childhood, a stroke in her teenage years, and temporary hearing loss from Ménière's disease in 2020. Last year, she also revealed her diagnosis of ADHD and OCD, further highlighting her resilient spirit. The conversation around breast cancer awareness is more critical than ever. Dr Peter Schoub, chair of the Breast Imaging Society of South Africa (BISSA) and a leading expert in the field, warns that breast cancer can often be undetected in the lives of countless women, waiting to strike when least expected. 'Early detection is the beacon of hope,' he stated, noting that it not only enhances survival chances but also mitigates the necessity for aggressive treatments that can inflict both physical and emotional distress. Schoub highlighted the alarming issue of late-stage breast cancer diagnoses in South Africa, attributing it to a mix of low awareness, limited healthcare access, and socio-economic disparities. 'Although most major medical schemes provide complimentary mammogram screenings yearly to women over 40, only about 20% take advantage of this service,' he explained. In light of Jessie J's update, those affected by breast cancer are reminded that recognising symptoms early is crucial. By educating themselves about the signs of breast cancer - ranging from lumps to subtle skin changes - women and their families can take proactive steps. Understanding and acting on these signs could mean the difference between life and death, making time an essential factor in the fight against this disease.
