Jaguars' Travis Hunter Highest-Rated Rookie In 'Madden' In Over 10 Years
The Jacksonville Jaguars' two-way star is the highest-rated rookie in "Madden NFL 26," earning an 84 overall rating for the game, EA Sports announced Wednesday. His rating is the highest for a rookie in the "Madden" series since Andrew Luck in "Madden NFL 13." The former Indianapolis Colts quarterback also had an 84 overall rating, while Reggie Bush had the highest overall rating ever for a rookie in the game at 87.
Hunter will be featured as a two-way star in "Madden NFL 26," just as the Jaguars plan to use him in real life. Users will be able to play with Hunter at wide receiver and cornerback, with restrictions being lifted on the depth chart settings for him.
Hunter will also have "some exclusive benefits" in the game, according to EA Sports. He's the first rookie in the "Madden" series to ever have custom abilities made for him, making it so that the impact from the "Wear & Tear" feature will be less draining on him than it would be for other players that users try to play with on both sides of the ball. Still, Hunter will feel the effects of the "Wear & Tear" feature if you try to play him on every snap.
So far in training camp, Hunter has split time at both wide receiver and cornerback. However, he's spent each day exclusively playing one position rather than splitting time between the two.
Hunter's ability to shine on both sides of the ball also made him one of the best players in college football at Colorado last season, and the winner of the Heisman Trophy. He had 1,258 receiving yards to go with 16 total touchdowns on offense, while he recorded four interceptions and only allowed one touchdown at cornerback.
Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty, who was taken with the sixth overall pick, is the second-highest rated rookie, earning an 83 overall rating. New York Giants edge rusher Abdul Carter (81) and Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Mason Graham (80) were the only other rookies to earn an overall rating of 80 or higher.
New England Patriots offensive tackle Will Campbell (79), Atlanta Falcons edge rusher Jalon Walker (79), Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Kenneth Grant (78), Denver Broncos cornerback Jahdae Barron (78), San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Mykel Williams (78) and Buffalo Bills cornerback Maxwell Hairston (78) round out the top 10 for the highest-rated rookie players in "Madden NFL 26."
Not among that group is Cam Ward, who the Tennessee Titans took with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The rookie has a 72 overall rating in "Madden NFL 26."
Wednesday's unveiling of the rookie ratings is part of Ratings Week for "Madden NFL 26." EA Sports unveiled which players made the "99 Club" on Monday, with seven players making up the group.
"Madden NFL 26" will be available to purchase on Aug. 14, but those who purchase the game with Early Access can play the game as early as Aug. 7.

Dan Quinn says he's glad Terry McLaurin remains a presence at Commanders camp amid contract dispute
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Commanders coach Dan Quinn said Saturday that wide receiver Terry McLaurin told him directly about his request to be traded amid a contract dispute but the coach has not addressed the matter with the other players as the team continues to prepare for the season. 'The players today, they're more aware of contracts and things than they used to be,' Quinn said before practice. 'And they recognize that business part happens as well. So, for the team, we're just rocking and going and throwing some great practices. For Terry and the trade requests, man, that's part of normal business that's happening around the NFL.' The 2024 All-Pro has been holding in at training camp. He reported to camp Sunday after skipping the first four practices and parts of the offseason program. He remains on the physically unable to perform list with an ankle injury while contract talks continue. He remain a presence at camp though he hasn't been on the field. 'I'm really glad he's here,' Quinn said. 'I love coaching him, but the business side, that's kind of where it's at. Somebody asked me, is it a distraction? It is not.' McLaurin, entering the final year of a three-year extension signed in 2022, is seeking a new deal that would make him among the league's highest-paid receivers. He had 82 catches for 1,096 yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns last season, helping Washington reach the NFC Championship game. 'We love Terry. I'm really glad he is here and hopefully he is out practicing soon,' Quinn said. 'And we also understand there's the business side of these things that (general manager) Adam (Peters) and his side and Terry and his reps are working through.' Meanwhile, McLaurin is working with the training staff to strengthen his ankle, Quinn said. McLaurin watches afternoon walkthroughs and hears the play calls while Quinn keeps everyone's focus on the work. 'It's a really cool place to come work and play football,' Quinn said. 'And we work hard at that, too, the environment. And so, (Terry is) definitely part of that … Even though he's not participating, there's still plenty to do.' Without McLaurin, wide receiver Deebo Samuel and tight end Zach Ertz are the top passing options for quarterback Jayden Daniels, the Offensive Rookie of the Year last season. 'I know that time will come,' Daniels said this week on McLaurin eventually rejoining the offense. 'Till then, if that's us getting in the film room and just talking ... we always talk. We talk ball. East-West Shrine Bowl 1000 watch list includes 14 Florida football players
The East-West Shrine Bowl 1000, a preseason list of collegiate football players that showcases many of the talents that are eligible for the upcoming NFL draft, was recently revealed with over a dozen Florida Gators mentioned among the prestigious group. A total of 14 UF student-athletes were projected to represent the Orange and Blue in the East-West Shrine Bowl, with four of them on the defensive side of scrimmage. That list of players consists of defensive lineman Caleb Banks, defensive back Jordan Castell, and edge defenders George Gumbs Jr. and Tyreak Sapp. On offense, tight end Hayden Hansen, wide receivers J. Michael Sturdivant and Eugene Wilson III, plus offensive linemen Knijeah Harris, Bryce Lovett, Austin Barber, Damieon George Jr. and Jake Slaughter comprise the eight Gators that got the call.
