But the following day collections of the film have fallen highly, and the film reportedly grossed around Rs 310 crore globally at the end of the 4 day first weekend. According to trade expert Ramesh Bala, 'Coolie' needs to gross at least Rs. 600 crore worldwide to achieve the breakeven mark.
The chance seems to be fading as the film continues to receive mixed reviews, and the box office collection on weekdays will decide the film's future.
Trade circles see chances of repeating 'Jailer' success
In Tamil cinema, '2.0' (2018) had previously set a record of Rs. 800 crore, which is still unbroken. After that, 'Jailer' (2023) starring Rajinikanth was a hit, collecting Rs. 600 crore. So, trade sources believe that 'Coolie' has a good chance of achieving the same status. It is estimated that this film could also become a profitable venture for everyone commercially.
A gangster drama on gold smuggling
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, this gangster drama follows a retired gang leader as he reconciles with old enemies. The film also reveals the darker side of the world of gold smuggling. Along with Rajinikanth, the film stars Shruti Haasan, Nagarjuna, Upendra, and Shobin Shahir. Aamir Khan makes a special appearance. Anirudh Ravichander has composed the music.
