Delhi BJP govt to list works in 100-day report card on May 31

Hindustan Times7 days ago

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is nearing 100 days of being in power in the Capital, and the chief minister Rekha Gupta-led government is likely to present a report card highlighting its works undertaken or implemented since it started ruling Delhi following a resounding victory after 27 years.
The report card is likely to be presented to the people at a 'mega event' on May 31. It is likely to include initiatives related to the Yamuna, health care, private schools fees, and infrastructure improvement works, officials aware of the matter said.
'All ministers are also finalising details of the work done by their departments. The work will be compiled into one report which will encapsulate all that the BJP government has done within a short span of time,' said a Delhi government official privy to the development.
In the last three months, the Delhi government has initiated several key works, especially those that featured frequently in its promises ahead of the February assembly elections.
These include works for cleaning the Yamuna. The expenditure and finance committee, headed by chief minister Rekha Gupta, in April approved the setting up of 27 decentralised sewage treatment plants, treatment facilities and associated infrastructure at a cost of ₹3,140 crore for the river's cleaning.
Besides, officials said, the government may also list the tabling of pending CAG reports in the Delhi Assembly — another key promise that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made during campaigning for the Assembly elections.
Another major action is the rollout of the Centre's flagship health insurance scheme Ayushman Bharat Yojana, and Vaya Vandana Yojana that offers health insurance and pension benefits to senior citizens, both likely to feature in the report card, multiple government officials told HT.
The government may also list the setting up of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, its primary health care centres, and closing down of Mohalla Clinics built by the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. The BJP government counts it among its achievements, said another government official.
Other works include the roll-out of 400 new electric buses under the Delhi Electric Vehicle Interconnector (Devi) e-bus service. The Devi buses, that began operation earlier this month, were introduced to improve last mile connectivity. The CM last month also flagged off a fleet of 1,111 GPS-enabled tankers to boost water supply, particularly in slums and unauthorized colonies.
A second government official said that CM Gupta is likely to announce some new initiatives at the event, the details of which were not known.
'The event is likely to be held at a major venue which is not yet finalised, but Talkatora and Thyagaraj stadiums are among the options being explored by the government,' said the official, asking not to be named.
The guest lists and the details of the event are yet to be finalised, added the official.
Other key works that are currently in the pipeline and are likely be listed in the report card include the BJP's decision to provide ₹2,500 monthly allowance to eligible women — its key election promise that has been facing criticism from the opposition AAP due to delay in implementation.
While the government has formed a ministerial committee for the same, it is yet to finalise the eligibility criteria for beneficiaries. Government officials and ministers are too tight-lipped on when the scheme will be finally rolled out. The government has allocated ₹5,100 crore for the scheme in the 2025-26 budget.
Another work is the tabling and approvals of a bill by the Delhi cabinet to regulate fees charged by private schools. The bill, however, is yet to be tabled in the Delhi Assembly.
In the February 2025 assembly elections, the BJP ousted the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government after coming to power in 48 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly.

'More Concerned About Miss World Than...': BJP Slams Revanth Reddy Over Op Sindoor Remarks

Last Updated: Telangana BJP slammed Reddy for prioritising photo-ops and media attention over national solidarity after the latter's remarks on Operation Sindoor and PM Modi. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Telangana launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Revanth Reddy over his recent comments on Operation Sindoor and his criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Telangana BJP spokesperson and media in-charge NV Subash accused Revanth Reddy of prioritising photo-ops and media attention over effective governance. He also slammed Reddy's conduct as 'bizarre and irresponsible," calling it unfit for a state leader. 'Is he living in a fantasy? Even a national daily that once published such claims had to retract them after the Defence Ministry clarified the facts. Yet, the CM chooses to repeat these lies, presumably to curry favour with his party high command – Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi – thanks to whom he parachuted into the CM's chair," Subash said on Reddy's recent remarks. Subash also pointed out that Reddy's remarks criticising India's Operation Sindoor appeared to be echoing the propaganda perpetuated by Pakistan. 'Even a staunch BJP critic like AIMIM's Asaduddin Owaisi has no hesitation in calling out Pakistan's duplicity," he said. 'More Concerned About Miss World' Subash further said that the CM appeared more concerned about 'appearing alongside Miss World on tomorrow's front pages" rather than expressing solidarity with the country amid heightened tensions with Pakistan. This was in reference to Telangana hosting the Miss World competition, one of the biggest international beauty pageants, whose finale will be broadcast tonight. The competition began amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan soon after India's retaliatory 'Operation Sindoor' against Pakistan in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, amid calls from the opposition to postpone it. The BJP spokesperson urged Reddy to 'exercise restraint and responsibility" in public discourse and also mocked him for suggesting Rahul Gandhi as the country's next Prime Minister. 'Even his party members would laugh at that suggestion." What Did Revanth Reddy Say? Telangana CM Revanth Reddy made headlines for questioning the ceasefire between India and Pakistan and objected to calling off the 'war' by the Modi government at the behest of US President Donald Trump's orders. Reddy questioned why a ceasefire was called without consulting all parties. While addressing the Congress' 'Jai Hind Yatra' in Hyderabad, Reddy said, 'Modi is expired rupee, Modi is like a 1000 rupees' invalid note. Today, this country needs Rahul Gandhi's leadership." He also demanded an explanation for how many Rafale jets were downed by Pakistan. 'If a leader like Rahul Gandhi would have been Prime Minister of this country, then he would have taken (former PM) Indira Gandhi as inspiration and would have walked in Kaali's (Maata) way and would have made Pakistan into two parts and would have taken PoK back," he added. Reddy reiterated that the Congress and the Gandhi family have a history of sacrificing their lives for the country. He urged the party leaders and workers to strive hard and not relax until Rahul Gandhi became Prime Minister. Also addressing a press briefing at the party headquarters on Friday, BJP MP Sambit Patra said, ' Yeh jo Pakistan ke Babbar hain, woh Hindustan ke Gabbar hain '. Patra also questioned Rahul Gandhi, Revanth Reddy and Jairam Ramesh over not asking Pakistan regarding how many of their airbases were destroyed or terrorists were killed. A statement, jointly signed by 23 MLAs stated, "We feel and share the enormous suffering endured by the people of Manipur over the past two years. As elected representatives, we are united in our firm belief that a long-term solution to the crisis is both possible and necessary." Live Events "Such a solution must rest on the pillars of political will, inclusive dialogue, constitutional safeguards and impartial endorsement of law and order. It is our collective conviction that this journey must be undertaken in close cooperation between the Centre, state, civil society and community leaders," it added. The meeting was attended by senior BJP MLAs, including Govindas Konthoujam, Y Khemchand Singh and L Susindro Meitei. "During our deliberations, we thoroughly examined mechanisms for inclusive dialogue involving representation of all communities in Manipur. We strongly support the establishment of a neutral dialogue platform to facilitate constructive meditation between Meitei and Kuki Zo communities aimed at building trust and consensus on critical issues," the statement added. "The meeting also considered the feasibility of formally approaching the governor and the central leadership to appoint a peace envoy or a panel of eminent persons, comprising voices from within and outside Manipur. Such a body operating with full support of the Union government and the state administration would play a vital role in facilitating impartial mediation and bridging the trust deficit among the communities," they said. "We emphasise the critical importance of inter-community people-to-people dialogue at grassroots level involving local governance institutions, civil society groups, student bodies and religious institutions. This will lay the foundation of healing, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence," the legislators said. "We underscored the need of central paramilitary forces and state forces to act with strict neutrality and reiterated the urgency of a well-monitored effort to recover looted weapons and disarmament in the hills and the valley," the statement said. The legislators also acknowledged the "public desire to see the formation of a popular government". "We discussed pathways to achieve this with unity and selflessness. We resolve to put aside personal ambitions in the larger interests of the state, its people, and the vision of BJP and its alliance partners in Manipur," they said. "With collective determination and inclusive leadership, we believe the state can once again find its path towards unity and progress," they added. The signatories of its statement did not include former chief minister N Biren Singh or Speaker Th. Satyabrata Singh. On May 28, 10 NDA MLAs met Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla in the Raj Bhawan. The MLAs also submitted a list of 22 MLAs seeking formation of a government. With BJP falling to find a consensus candidate for the chief ministership, President's rule was imposed on, four days after Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, who was heading a BJP-led government for the second term, resigned on February 9, following ethnic violence. A senior BJP leader, who did not want to be named, said, 'There are too many candidates in the fray for the chief minister ship. Assembly Speaker Satyabrata Singh and former Municipal Administrations, Housing and former Urban Development minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh were vying for the chief minister's post.' He said two former ministers, including Th Biswajit and Govindas Konthoujam were also in the race. Over 260 people were killed, more than 1,500 injured, and over 70,000 people displaced after the ethnic violence broke out between the Meitei and the Kuki-Zo people on May 3, 2023, after a 'Tribal Solidarity March', organised in the hill districts to protest the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe status.
