Man arrested after falsely reporting robbery following stabbing incident
MELAKA: A 23-year-old man's attempt to avoid blame for stabbing a man by fabricating a robbery backfired when the victim revealed the truth to the police.
Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said the suspect contacted the Malaysian Emergency Response Services (MERS) 999 at around 3.50am on May 16, claiming that he and his friend had been assaulted by two armed robbers on a motorcycle at Kampung Paya Sum, Sungai Udang, here.
He said the suspect alleged that the assailants intercepted them at the site and demanded their belongings before stabbing his friend and fleeing the scene.
"Acting on the information, police launched a manhunt for the alleged robbers.
"However, the story took a turn when the 17-year-old victim, who is currently receiving treatment for serious injuries at Melaka Hospital, disclosed that there had been no robbery," he said on Sun (May 18).
ACP Christopher Patit said the victim told his men that he had been stabbed by the suspect during an argument over money he owed him
"We are still in the process of recording a full statement from the victim as he continues to recover from his injuries,' he said.
ACP Christopher Patit said the suspect from Batu Pahat, Johor, was arrested at a house in Sungai Udang on the same day. The case was investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon.
He said further background checks revealed the man has a prior police record with nine offences, mostly linked to illegal gambling activities.

[UPDATED] Police completing probe into LGBT-related programme, says IGP
KUALA LUMPUR: Police are in the process of completing the investigation paper on the organisation of a programme related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) matters. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the Classified Crimes Unit is finalising the investigation following the questioning of two people from Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) yesterday. "A total of 38 questions were posed to both individuals, but they chose to respond to the questions in court. "The entire session took place between 3.10pm and 4.30pm," he said when contacted today. Razarudin also said police seized a Huawei mobile phone along with a SIM card from one of the individuals to facilitate investigations into the case. "The investigation is being conducted under Section 298A of the Penal Code, Section 505(c) of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998," he said today. Yesterday it was reported that police recorded statements from two PSM members in connection with an event linked to LGBT issues. Federal Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain confirmed this when contacted adding that the statements were taken to assist in the investigation of a case related to a post about the organisation of the Pride Care LGBT gathering. It was reported that a total of 188 police reports had been lodged concerning allegations of a programme related to LGBT issues, said to have been organised by the youth wing of a political party in Petaling Jaya. Previously, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan had said that police had launched an investigation following a social media post regarding a planned programme, believed to be scheduled for June 21 at an undisclosed location in Petaling Jaya.

'I cannot accept this,' says grieving father of woman murdered by husband
TANGKAK: The anguished cry of a father echoed through a home in Taman Cahaya, Bukit Gambir, last night as he struggled to come to terms with the death of his 34-year-old daughter, who was allegedly murdered by her husband. "Perhaps the pain would have been bearable if my daughter had died from an illness. "But this… she died in such a manner. "I do not know how to accept or come to terms with this," said the grieving 74-year-old Junus Kassim after seeing his daughter's face when her body arrived at his home around 6.45pm for the burial ceremony. Several family members rushed to console as Junus grappled with accepting the fate that had befallen his daughter. The victim's mother, Fatimah Seman, 63, also wept when given the opportunity to see the face of the victim, who is the second among four siblings, for the final time. Tears flowed during the burial ceremony as the body was brought to the Kampung Durian Chondong Muslim cemetery to be laid to rest. Earlier, the hearse transporting the body arrived from Melaka Hospital after the post-mortem was completed earlier in the morning. Around 200 people, including family members, close relatives and villagers, gathered at the house compound to receive the body. A sombre atmosphere filled the air as the body was brought into the house and funeral prayers were performed, joined by more than 50 congregants. The victim was laid to rest at 8pm last night. It was reported that the 32-year-old suspect had allegedly murdered the victim and set fire to several vehicles at his in-laws' house before he had surrendered himself to the police. The suspect had walked into the Bukit Gambir police station at 7am on June 3 and reportedly told the police had slashed his wife and committed arson. He had been remanded for seven day s to facilitate investigations into the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and Section 435 of the same Code for committing mischief.

DAP to issue statement on Teoh Beng Hock case, says Loke
PETALING JAYA: DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said his party will issue a statement on the Teoh Beng Hock case soon. He however did not indicate a specific time for the statement's release. "We will issue a statement," he said at a press conference after the Higher Education Ministry's Ilmuan Malaysia Madani forum titled "Transport for the People: Balancing Affordability, Quality and Sustainability of Public Transport." Yesterday, it was reported that the sister of Teoh Beng Hock demanded transparency and accountability from the authorities after the Attorney-General's Chambers (A-GC) and police decided not to pursue further action in the 2009 case. Beng Hock's sister, Lee Lan expressed her dismay over the decision for no further action (NFA), especially given that multiple court rulings had established the death was not due to suicide or an accident. She said that the Court of Appeal had ruled in 2014 that Beng Hock's death was caused by the actions of individuals, including Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers, and demanded that the police investigate the case under the proper criminal provisions. She also called for those currently in the government to act appropriately as they had in the past stood by the fact that he was killed. Last month, the Teoh Beng Hock Association for Democratic Advancement called for DAP's five ministers to resign in protest over the NFA. Association chairperson Ng Yap Hwa said the ministers - Loke, Gobind Singh Deo, Nga Kor Ming, Sim Chee Keong, and Hannah Yeoh - should take responsibility on the party's behalf for failing to fulfil promises to seek justice for Beng Hock. Beng Hock's family had earlier been informed by police that their latest investigation into the case had been classified as requiring no further action or NFA. On Nov 21 last year, the High Court had directed the police to complete their long-delayed investigation into the death more than 15 years ago. Beng Hock died on July 16, 2009 at the fifth floor of Plaza Masalam, Shah Alam, after being questioned for hours by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). An inquest was held and the coroner returned an open verdict. However, the Court of Appeal in 2014 ruled that his death was caused by "one or more persons unknown", including MACC officers. In 2019, police launched an investigation under Section 342 of the Penal Code for wrongful confinement. Prior to 2018, two special investigation teams were set up – one in 2011 and the other in 2015 – to look into Teoh's death, but both cases were classified as NFA by the public prosecutor.
