BJP condemns party chief's ‘house arrest'
Mr. Rao was slated to attend a series of programmes in the Secunderabad and Goshamahal constituencies. However, a group of policemen arrived at his Tarnaka residence and placed him under house arrest, anticipating his participation in a programme organized by the BJP women's wing at Peddamma Temple in Jubilee Hills.
This action sparked widespread criticism from party leaders, including Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Mahabubnagar MP D.K. Aruna, former MLA N.V.S.S. Prabhakar, General Secretary K. Venkateshwarlu, Chief Spokesperson N.V. Subash, Women's Wing President Dr. Shilpa Reddy, and several others.
Despite being occupied with the Parliament session in Delhi, Mr. Sanjay Kumar accused the Congress-led state government of orchestrating a conspiracy to secure votes from a particular community ahead of the upcoming Jubilee Hills by-election.
'The government is playing politics with Hindu sentiments for the sake of votes from one community. Even though our party chief had no plans to visit the Peddamma Temple, he was arrested,' he said, questioning whether visiting a temple was now considered a crime.
Mr. Prabhakar alleged that the current government was continuing the 'vote bank politics' of the BRS regime by restricting the majority community's access to temples and religious practices. 'This goes against the principles of democracy and the fundamental rights of citizens,' he said.
Mr. Subash also accused the State government of attempting to silence opposition voices through illegal arrests. 'Just as the people of Telangana rejected the BRS, the Revanth Reddy government is likely to face a similar fate,' he warned.
The BJP clarified that its campaign aimed to honour the national flag and commemorate the sacrifices of freedom fighters, and was not directed against the State government. The party warned of Statewide protests if such actions continued.
Meanwhile, Dr. Shilpa Reddy criticized the police for indiscriminately arresting members of the women's wing and preventing them from conducting a 'spiritual' programme at the Peddamma Temple. 'In a democracy, everyone has the right to religious expression. The government is trying to usurp these rights,' she said.

'LS polls be considered null': Congress hits back at BJP's 'vote theft' allegations
Hitting back at the BJP for claiming irregularities in seats contested by some top opposition leaders, the Congress on Wednesday said the data shared by the ruling party points to its collusion with the Election Commission (EC) and demanded that the 2024 Lok Sabha polls be considered "null and void" for being held on "fake voter lists". The entire 2024 general election was conducted on "such fake voter lists", Pawan Khera alleged.(File/AICC) The opposition party also demanded the electronic voter list of Varanasi, from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi had won the electoral contest, "so that people get to know whether he had truly won or not". The Congress's attack came after the ruing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claimed irregularities in voter registration in the Rae Bareli, Wayanad, Diamond Harbour and Kannauj parliamentary seats, and asked Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Abhishek Banerjee and Akhilesh Yadav to resign as Lok Sabha MPs, alleging that they secured their electoral triumphs with "vote chori". Giving a slide-show presentation on the issue at the BJP headquarters here on an "analysis" of the electoral rolls of these constituencies represented by opposition leaders, former Union minister Anurag Thakur also flagged "irregularities" in the voter registration in the Kolathur Assembly seat in Tamil Nadu and the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh, and asked Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK supremo M K Stalin and Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Dimple Yadav to resign for "rigging" their election. Hitting back at Thakur, Congress's media and publicity department head Pawan Khera said, "The numbers of five-six Lok Sabha constituencies that he (Thakur) has released ... it took us six months to collect for just one Vidhan Sabha. Where did he get the electronic voter list from? This shows how deeply aligned BJP leaders are with the EC." "We also want to point out that what he has released today is evidence of a crime. We demand that this evidence be handed over to us within 24 hours so we can proceed with the investigation. We also want the electronic voter list of Varanasi, from where the prime minister won (the Lok Sabha election) by a very small margin, so that people can know whether he truly won or not," Khera told PTI Videos. "Today, he (Thakur) has released the data for five-six Lok Sabha constituencies, whereas we had only released a list of 50 booths from one Vidhan Sabha. Thakur slammed Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), SP and DMK leaders for raising questions on the EC and accused them of running a vicious propaganda against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls, which is currently underway in Bihar and would be launched in other states, to protect their "vote bank of illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators" and other "intruders". "Seeing this 'shor' (hue and cry) being made by the opposition, it now seems that 'chor machaye shor'", the BJP leader said, suggesting that those who were in the wrong are now crying foul. "Rae Bareli, Wayanad, Kannuaj to Diamond Harbour -- everywhere one question is coming up, why did they make fake voters? Will they resign for indulging in 'vote chori' and protecting intruders?" After this, Gandhi asked the number of such people, to which another man replied, "There are at least 50 such cases in a single panchayat." They alleged that in the constituency of RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, Raghupur, many living voters were shown as "dead" in the list provided by the Election Commission. The ministry on August 11 announced the 4th edition of the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, launched under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, to inspire citizens across the nation to bring the Indian national flag, the Tiranga, into their homes and hearts. The campaign is being carried out across the country, with over 5 lakh young people registering in the fourth year of the campaign, according to a statement from the ministry. Under this campaign, people are advised to hoist the national flag at their home, office, or institution, take a selfie or photo, and upload it to a government portal. By completing the online process, people can earn a digital certificate and an optional e-card. –Hoist the national flag at your home, office, institution, or at any convenient place on Independence Day. –Take a selfie or photo with the national flag and upload it on the official portal –Register by entering your name and mobile number when requested and fill the required details. –Download your digital certificate after getting registered and uploading a photo or selfie. –The participant will also have the option to download Har Ghar Tiranga e-card. –The Tiranga e-card is a customised electronic badge that honours your involvement in the campaign. –The participants can share the e-card on their social media handles and WhatsApp groups. Chief Ministers of several BJP-led states took part in the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign on Wednesday and hoisted the tricolour at their residences ahead of the Independence Day celebrations. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath hoisted the tricolour at his residence and wrote on X, "The proclamation of our unity, the resolve of our integrity, the eternal symbol of our sovereignty and pride... 'Our Tricolour' Let us join the #HarGharTiranga Hind!" Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini hoisted the tricolour at his residence in Chandigarh, while Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel hoisted the flag in Gandhinagar. Earlier on Wednesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, along with his wife Sonal Shah, hoisted the flag at their residence in Delhi's Krishna Menon Marg and participated in the 'Har Ghar Tiranga campaign'.
