Apple teases 'Slow Horses' season 5 first look and a 'Ted Lasso' star joins the cast
Are we about to get a "Slow Horses" season 5 and "Ted Lasso" crossover episode?
Probably not, but Apple did just announce that one member of the AFC Richmond team will be a guest star in the upcoming season of the hit Apple TV Plus British spy thriller.
In a press release, the tech giant's streaming service revealed that Nick Mohammed will be joining "Slow Horses" season 5 in an unknown guest starring role. This came alongside a release date announcement that confirmed a Wednesday, September 24 release date for season 5.
I'm very curious to see what role Mohammed will play in the upcoming season of what's frankly been the best show on TV over the past several years. In "Ted Lasso," he showed the ability to play the good guy and the villain, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him go in either direction.
Whatever role he plays, though, it'll likely only be a brief appearance.
That doesn't mean it won't be impactful, but the fact that he's listed as a "special guest star" indicates it won't be a regular role this season — though he could feature in future installments.
A recent example of this is Kaitlyn Dever in "The Last of Us" season 2, who was a guest star and made a huge impact on the show, but only appeared in a handful of scenes across three episodes. Yet, Dever will play a bigger role in "The Last of Us" season 3.

Alongside the release date and casting announcement, we also got a first look at Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb in season 5.
Lamb will, unsurprisingly, lead "Slow Horses" season 5, which is an adaptation of Mick Herron's fifth novel in the "Slough House" series, "London Rules."
Apple's official synopsis reads: "In season 5 of 'Slow Horses,' everyone is suspicious when resident tech nerd Roddy Ho has a glamorous new girlfriend, but when a series of increasingly bizarre events occur across the city, it falls to the Slow Horses to work out how everything is connected. After all, Jackson Lamb knows that in the world of espionage, 'London Rules' should always apply."

‘Say Nothing' star Anthony Boyle on playing IRA activist Brendan Hughes: We ‘get to the humanity as opposed to the mythology'
Portraying a real person in Say Nothing was "a great honor," Anthony Boyle tells Gold Derby about his role as renowned Irish activist Brendan Hughes. "This one felt really special, because it was so close to home. I used to walk past the mural of Brendan Hughes coming back from school, and you'd hear folk songs about the guy." Say Nothing was created by Joshua Zetumer, based on Patrick Radden Keefe's acclaimed nonfiction book Say Nothing: A True Story of Murder and Memory in Northern Ireland. Set during the height of the Troubles, the nine-part drama follows Belfast sisters Dolours Price (Lola Petticrew) and Marian Price (Hazel Doupe) as they become deeply entangled in the IRA's militant campaign. At the center of the story is the 1972 abduction and murder of Jean McConville, a widowed mother of 10, through which the series explores the emotional and ethical fallout of political violence. Boyle stars as the younger version of Hughes, a central figure during the Troubles as the officer commanding of the Belfast Brigade, leading significant operations including the 1980 hunger strike and the Bloody Friday bombings in 1972. I sort of based him off himself, obviously, and I've got an uncle called Snake who is really charismatic and really good at telling stories. You know, when you're with him in the bar, he's got this real magnetic quality. He pulls everyone, and he's got this real way speaking. I grew up in Belfast, and I would drink in the same bars that Brendan would drink in, and I know there's people that he knew," Boyle says. "This one for me felt like a very natural fit." The Northern Irish actor's performance has earned acclaim for its emotional depth, charting Hughes' journey from fervent idealist to a disillusioned figure haunted by the personal and political consequences of his actions. Boyle's layered interpretation adds profound weight to the series' examination of the human cost of political violence. "When someone dies, particularly if they're a soldier, they become mythologized and there's a sort of martyrdom around them, and there's murals of them on the wall, and they're painted and revered. And when I spoke with Josh Finan, who played Gerry Adams, it was about stripping a lot of that back," Boyle explains. "They're not paintings on the wall, they're real breathing people, and if we want to do them justice, if we want to do the story justice, you've got to bring it down and get to the humanity of them as opposed to the mythology of them." Chappell Roan Did the Viral ‘Apple' Dance During Charli xcx's Primavera Sound Set: ‘Love You B–ch!'
Charli xcx had a very special guest for her Primavera Sound set in Barcelona at the Parc del Fòrum on Thursday night (June 5). On opening night of the festival, Chappell Roan shocked the crowd when she showed up to expertly do the viral 'Apple' dance during Charli's set (watch the moment below). Chappell, wearing a grey skirt and black top covered by a cut-up sweatshirt, slapped on a pair of oversized bug-eye glasses as she joyously bounced along to the song from Charli'x Brat album along with a handful of other fans from what looked like a balcony. Roan lip synched along to the lyrics 'I think the apple's rotten right to the core/ From all the things passed down/ From all the apples coming before' while doing the dance's signature hand jive. Meet 88rising's New Girl Group
This May, 88rising unveiled its latest girl group: no na. The Indonesian quartet — made up of members Christy, Baila, Esther and Shaz — debuted with the soaring single 'Shoot,' illustrating the group's knack for vocal harmonies and love of R&B. Its second single, 'Superstitious,' leaned more into pop, and the group says that sweet spot between the two genres is where no na will thrive. The foursome made its live debut this month as 88rising's annual Head In the Clouds: L.A., their adoptive home after relocating from Indonesia last year to focus on music full time. In December 2022, 88rising brought its celebrated Head in the Clouds festival to Jakarta, Indonesia — marking the event's first time in Asia and also becoming the unwitting origin story of the label's newest girl group, no na. Members Baila, Shaz and Christy all met at the festival — and exchanged quick, tepid handshakes, they joke today. While Shaz and Christy come from dance backgrounds, Baila was pursuing music as a solo act at the time, having competed on Indonesian Idol Junior. Six months later, Esther, a singer who had competed on season 10 of Indonesian Idol, completed the quartet, and they started training together in Jakarta with joint dance and vocal lessons. 'That's when we started spending every single day together,' Esther says. Baila adds: 'Indonesians are pretty easygoing, and it was so easy for us to get along. We didn't have to try to like each other.' The four members of no na were all stealthily scouted by 88rising, an effort helmed by founder and CEO Sean Miyashiro. But when one particular project manager reached out, 'We didn't know that she was from 88,' Esther recalls with a laugh. 'They just mentioned, 'Would you like to be part of a global girl group?' That kind of scared us at first.' But Shaz jokes, 'We stalked her,' and found out that they had a legitimate offer to not only form a global girl group but also move halfway across the world to Los Angeles. (The four members moved there in 2024, sharing an apartment.) While they were immediately aligned on their influences — 'pop, reggae, jazz; we all love R&B,' Esther says, shouting out Victoria Monét and FLO as well as 'the classics' like Janet Jackson and Diana Ross — they struggled to agree on a group name. After combing through more than 200 options, they agreed on 'no na' — a riff on nona, which means 'miss' in Indonesian. Spotlighting its native country is a priority for no na — from the group's visuals, like filming the stunning music video for debut song 'Shoot' back home, to its lyrics, which will incorporate Indonesian phrases. 'We want to represent our country to the world, where not a lot of people are familiar with everything about Indonesia,' Shaz says. The act has started to spread the word worldwide: In May, it made its live debut at Head in the Clouds: L.A., which was a full-circle moment. As Esther says: 'A dream came true for us.'
