BJP MLA says home dept has failed as ‘protector of culture'
Leading the charge was BJP MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar, who while participating in the debate on supplementary demands in state Assembly, mentioned a leading hotel chain that was renting out rooms on an hourly basis, across the state. He said the chain operated hotels around 20km from cities and towns, where regular tourists would never patronise them. Clearly, he alleged, they were aimed at a specific clientele engaging in questionable activities.
'No tourist would dare to book these hotels as they are neither convenient, nor within reach. The 'sanskruti rakshak' (protector of culture) government should take note of this. The hotels are operated without any permission from local bodies,' Mungantiwar said.
He also pointed to the rise in betting on cricket matches, and demanded that the Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act be amended to include stricter punishment.
On a different note, Mungantiwar said more than 5,500 files of police officers and personnel are pending with the office of the director general of police, for approval of housing loans. 'Police employees have not been able to pay for flats they booked as their loans have not been cleared under the DG loan scheme. The files have been gathering dust in Mantralaya,' he said.
There was more criticism for the home department. Shiv Sena MLA from Jalna, Arjun Khotkar, slammed the state government over law and order and industrial policies. 'Although chief minister Devendraji Fadnavis has been making an effort to maintain law and order, the machinery does not fall in line. The police are helpless as they have not been equipped with modern technology,' he said. 'As a result, the crime rate has increased, with rampant instances of dacoity, loot and attacks on individuals.'
Khotkar added that although the state government claims to have helped bring down electricity bills for industries, the price of power has risen 'and I can prove this on paper'. He remarked, 'The state government has established Chandrapur as a steel hub, but the steel industry in Jalna is in bad shape.'
Opposition MLAs such as Bhaskar Jadhav, Amit Deshmukh and Rohit Pawar also took a few digs at the government¸ alleging deteriorating law and order and poor fiscal discipline of the state's economy. Jadhav said bags full of documents had been stolen from his car at Shivaji Park 18 months ago, but the culprits are still at large.

Five held for slaughtering cattle in Nelamangala
The Nelamangala Rural police have arrested a gang of five for slaughtering two cows and dumped their carcass on Nelamangala-Aralasandra village Road, Kasaba hobli last week. The accused used to sell the meat to buyers from Kerala. They bought cattle from Shivaji Nagar market and took it to a buyer at Nelamangala. However, the buyer rejected two of them because of their physical condition. Instead of taking them back, the accused allegedly slaughtered the two cows and dumped their carcass on the roadside and sent the rest of the load with the trader. The incident came to light when two police personnel who were on a patrol found the carcasses with their throats slit and reported the incident to the station. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case against unknown persons charging them under Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2020. The issue was highlighted by a group of self-styled cow vigilantes and Hindutva activists and was raised in the ongoing Assembly session. Taking a serious note, Superintendent of Police, Bengaluru Rural, C.K. Baba formed two special teams that tracked down the accused based on technical evidence.

AAP selling off interests in name of land pooling policy in Punjab: BJP
The Punjab BJP on Sunday organised a 'Kisan Mazdoor Fateh Rally' in Rajpura town to celebrate the revocation of the Aam Aadmi Party government's anti-farmer land pooling policy. Thousands of farmers and party workers joined the rally, showcasing BJP's growing strength in rural Punjab and its unwavering resolve to safeguard the rights of the farming community. State BJP President Sunil Jakhar launched a scathing attack on AAP, demanding clarity on who framed the controversial land pooling policy. He said it was astonishing that outsiders were running the Punjab government. It was either Arvind Kejriwal or Manish Sisodia who farmed the policy, while the Chief Secretary Punjab was made the chair of this committee. 'Neither the Chief Minister nor his Cabinet was involved, yet Punjabis are paying the price.' He added that Kejriwal was working as proxy CM of Punjab whereas it was Bhagwant Mann for whom Punjabis had voted. 'I thank all farmers and BJP workers, it is because of your tireless efforts and pressure that this useless and anti-farmer policy has finally been revoked,' he said. Punjab working President Ashwani Sharma said BJP's consistent fight at the block and tehsil levels forced the government to withdraw its anti-farmer agenda. He added, 'AAP's expiry date has arrived. The people of Punjab demand Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government for real change. Even promises like MSP on 24 crops by AAP remain unfulfilled. Punjab should look at its cousin Haryana -- ruled by BJP -- that offers MSP to farmers on all vegetables and fruits. Today, roadway workers, teachers, doctors, etc., all are on roads, protesting.' BJP national General Secretary Tarun Chugh described the policy reversal as a 'victory of Punjabiyat". He slammed AAP for turning Punjab into an 'ATM' to fund its Delhi politics. 'Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has reduced himself to a puppet CM, dancing to the tunes of leaders like Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain, both of whom have already faced jail terms,' he said. Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu hailed the cancellation of the land pooling policy as a historic win for Punjab's farmers. 'This is not just a political success but a fight for our land, and it is a victory for every farmer. Only the BJP can free Punjab from mounting debt and bring true relief through pro-people welfare schemes and development-driven governance,' he added. Former Union Minister Preneet Kaur thanked farmers and BJP workers for their support, saying, 'The strength seen here today shows the power of BJP's family in Punjab. We have always stood with our people, and this rally is proof that the BJP is on the path to victory in the 2027 Assembly elections. This is truly a win for our farmers and Punjab.' The 'Kisan Mazdoor Fateh Rally' sent out a clear message that farmers will not allow their land and rights to be compromised under AAP.

BJP leaders to be questioned regarding Suresh Gopi's suspected leopard tooth pendant
At least two BJP leaders, who were seen accompanying Union Minister Suresh Gopi at Thrissur on the day he wore a chain with a pendant made of a suspected leopard tooth, will be summoned for interrogation. The Pattikkad Range Forest Officer is likely to issue notices to the party leaders to record their statements this week on a complaint filed by a Congress worker A.A. Mohamed Hashim. Mr. Hashim had complained that the act of wearing a leopard tooth, a wildlife trophy, was an offence punishable under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. The Forest department had recorded the statements of Mr. Hashim in this regard last month. Mr. Hashim, who shared the news video clips of Mr. Gopi walking along the Swaraj Round wearing the suspected wildlife trophy, had identified one of the accompanying persons as K.K. Aneeshkumar, the Thrissur district president of BJP. Though unable to name the other one, the complainant had said he was an identifiable person. In Kannur too He had indicated that the Minister was seen wearing the ornament made out of suspected leopard tooth at a public function in Kannur too. Mr. Hashim, while giving his statement to the department, wanted the suspected ornament to be seized and its period of manufacture ascertained. Information will be sought from the persons who were seen walking along with Mr. Gopi, on whether they had any idea that he was wearing the ornament made of a wildlife trophy. The possible existence of videos or pictures that would give clues on the material constituting the ornament will be explored, since the videos shared by the complainant are insufficient to prove the allegations, sources said. The investigating officer will decide on questioning Mr. Gopi after looking into the statements of the witnesses and the evidence, they said. Meanwhile, the Pattikkad Range Forest officer recently booked a wildlife crime against a person arrested by the Thrissur police for allegedly possessing suspected narcotic substances the other day. A suspected leopard tooth, ivory and a few strands of elephant tail hair were also recovered from the accused. The suspected wildlife trophies would be sent for analysis to ascertain their genuineness. If confirmed, the accused would be prosecuted under the Wildlife Protection Act, sources said.
