Scarlett Johansson Addresses 'Really Bad' 2022 Misconduct Allegations Against Her Former Costar Bill Murray
Scarlett Johansson addressed the "really bad" 2022 allegations of sexual misconduct against Bill Murray in a June 2025 interview with Vanity Fair
'But you know what? How wonderful that people can change," the actress said while discussing her Lost in Translation costar
Murray was accused of misconduct by a younger female crew member in April 2022, and reportedly reached a settlement of just over $100,000 with herScarlett Johansson believes "life has humbled" her Lost in Translation costar Bill Murray.
More than 20 years after the two actors led the Sofia Coppola-directed dramedy, Johansson, 40, spoke about Murray in her June 2025 cover interview with Vanity Fair.
'He's such a different person now," Johansson said of Murray, 74. "I think life has humbled him.'
Murray was accused of misconduct by a younger female crew member on the set of Being Mortal in April 2022, and reportedly reached a settlement of just over $100,000 with the accuser that October.
Asked whether she was referring to the misconduct allegations with her "humbled" comment, the Jurassic World Rebirth actress said, "Certainly, yes — that was really bad."

'But," Johansson continued, "I also know COVID was a hard thing for him. Life — all these things have led up to him being held accountable for that kind of behavior.'
She added later in the interview, 'But you know what? How wonderful that people can change.'
A report published in 2022 claimed that Murray 'straddled' the crew member on a prop bed and kissed her on the mouth through masks worn for on-set COVID safety protocol.
The incident resulted in an internal on-set investigation, and the Aziz Ansari-led project, which was being produced by the Disney-owned Searchlight Pictures, was ultimately suspended indefinitely.
In a candid interview with The New York Times published April 5, Murray said he felt 'barbecued' by the experience — despite saying he had tried to 'make peace' with the affected parties.
'I don't go too many days or weeks without thinking of what happened. ... I dunno what prompted me to do it,' the Ghostbusters actor told the outlet. 'It's something that I had done to someone else before, and I thought it was funny, and every time it happened, it was funny.'
'I was wearing a mask, and I gave her a kiss, and she was wearing a mask. It wasn't like I touched her, but it was just, I gave her a kiss through a mask. And she wasn't a stranger,' he recalled, adding that he ate lunch with the person 'on various days of the week.'
When asked if he thought he had learned from the experience, Murray replied, 'I think so. ... You can teach an old dog new tricks."
"But it was a great disappointment, because I thought I knew someone, and I did not," he added. "I certainly thought it was light. I thought it was funny. To me it's still funny, the idea that you could give someone a kiss with a mask on. It's still stupid. It's all it was.'
Of their time together on Lost in Translation two decades earlier, Johansson told Vanity Fair, "Bill was in a hard place. Everybody was on tenterhooks around him, including our director and the full crew, because he was dealing with his … stuff.'

Johansson also reflected on her own individual experience working on Lost in Translation, which premiered in theaters when she was just 18 years old, during her interview.
The film follows the unlikely kinship Johansson's married college grad Charlotte and Murray's out-of-work actor Bob strike up while abroad in Tokyo as they contemplate their futures and feelings of loneliness.
"I'm pretty proud of how I handled myself," she said of making the movie. "I really just did the work, you know? It's a good tactic for pushing through stuff.'
Added the actress, 'Eyes on the prize.'

Disney+ viewers in UK risk £1k TV Licence fine if caught tuning into new content
Millions of Disney+ viewers are being warned they risk fines of up to £1,000 if they watch new content being added later this year. Usually, if you are watching streaming services like Netflix, Disney+ or Amazon Prime you do not require a TV licence. However, household in the UK is legally required to have a TV licence if they watch or record live TV, regardless of what channel it is on. Disney+ announced last month it had won the broadcasting rights to the UEFA Women's Champions League until 2030. This new deal will allow fans to watch every match live "at no extra cost". Powerful, fearless, determined and unstoppable 🏆 The UEFA Women's Champions League is coming to Disney+ #UWCL || @DisneyPlusUK — UEFA Women's Champions League (@UWCL) May 23, 2025 However, those hoping to watch the UEFA Women's Champions League on Disney+ will need to be careful of TV Licensing rules. The BBC confirmed to Cord Busters last year that viewers will need to purchase a TV Licence if they are to watch live events on streaming platforms. If viewers are caught watching live content without a TV licence, they could be fined up to £1,000. The majority of Disney+ content remains exempt from the TV Licence fee, as long as it is not being broadcast live. These are the occasions when you do not need a TV Licence. You do not need a TV Licence to watch: Streaming services like Netflix and Disney+ On-demand TV through services like All 4 and Amazon Prime Video Videos on websites like YouTube Videos or DVDs You do need a TV Licence if you: Watch or record live TV on any channel or service Use BBC iPlayer For those aged 75 or over who are in receipt of Pension Credit, the TV Licence can be obtained for free rather than costing £174.50. Guidance provided by TV Licensing says: 'Free TV Licences are only available if you're 75 or over and you, or your partner living at the same address, are receiving Pension Credit. 'If you think you're eligible for a free licence but can't apply online, please call 0300 790 6117* and speak to one of our advisors to request an application form (our lines are open between 8.30am and 6.30pm, from Monday to Friday). 'Once we've received your application it may take a few weeks to process. If there are any problems we'll write to let you know. We may also call you if you have given us your phone number. 'There are separate arrangements in place for over 75s on the Isle of Man, the Bailiwick of Jersey and the Bailiwick of Guernsey.' Even if you do not meet the eligibility criteria for a free TV Licence you may be able to get some money back on yours, so long as it is no longer needed. Monyetta Shaw-Carter's Birthday Hits Different – She's Celebrating Life & Love After A Stage 1 Breast Cancer Battle
Source: Paras Griffin / Getty Today (May 31) isn't just another birthday for Monyetta Shaw-Carter — it's a full-on rebirth. After battling stage 1 breast cancer, the Real Housewives of Atlanta star's special day hits different. She is turning 45 and celebrating with purpose, power, and a whole lot of pink. 'I caught the cancer early, and because of that, I will be here for my kids,' she told People . 'There's nothing more important than getting checked often and early to protect your future. Our health is irreplaceable.' Her diagnosis came after she felt an unusual sensation in her left breast last September. She didn't find a lump but told People she had a strange feeling that something was off. She listened. And that instinct saved her life. 'It was literally like my body was alerting me that something was wrong,' Monyetta said. 'It's so important for me to share this story because I hope to inspire others not to dismiss their gut feeling. Our body speaks to us, and when it does, we have to listen. It can be a matter of life or death.' One month after that self-check, a mammogram confirmed she had stage 1 invasive ductal carcinoma. She underwent a lumpectomy in January and completed 16 rounds of radiation by May 2. Now, weeks later, she's bringing her loved ones together for a joyful, pink-powered birthday bash. Her party honors life, resilience, and sisterhood. Monyetta credits her husband, Heath Carter, for being her rock through it all. She also had the support of her ex-fiancé, singer NE-YO, with whom she shares two children. 'NE-YO was just showing up for me in a major way and just always asking and making sure everything was okay,' she recalled in a recent interview. 'He was like, 'Oh, you're gonna beat this.'' Her RHOA circle also showed up with love. Kandi Burruss, Cynthia Bailey, Porsha Williams, Shamea Morton, and Shereé Whitfield all supported. For Monyetta Shaw-Carter, breast cancer is real but not unbeatable. So why not celebrate? As the founder of Keep It Classy Nails , a mother of four, and a businesswoman, she wants Black women everywhere to trust their instincts, take care of themselves, and live on their own terms. 'I'm stepping into this new chapter with deeper gratitude, unstoppable faith, and a whole new glow,' she wrote on Instagram. 'This birthday is more than candles and cake…it's a celebration of life, a reflection of pain & purpose, of healing, and God's grace. I've faced one of the biggest battles of my life… and I WON!!!'
