Jack Grealish sends message to Man City fans at Oasis gig

Metro12-07-2025
Jack Grealish told a Manchester City fan he loves the club 'more than anything' after an Oasis gig on Friday night.
The 29-year-old has been granted permission to find a new team this summer after he was left out of City's Club World Cup squad by Pep Guardiola last month.
Grealish was on holiday in Greece during City's Club World Cup campaign but the midfielder is now back in the UK and attended Oasis' gig at Heaton Park.
The midfielder posed for photos with City supporters at the gig and was filmed telling one fan: 'You know what, bro. I love City more than anything.
'And do you what I love more than anything… City fans. Bro, they're the best fans in the world.'

Grealish, who City signed in a £100 million deal from Aston Villa in 2021, was in the same VIP section as Guardiola, although the pair did not interact.
'Jack and Pep were stood in the same VIP section of the Oasis gig but at complete opposite ends of the stand,' an onlooker told The Mirror.
'Jack was in full spirits, belting every word while Pep seemed to be more family focussed. The pair didn't interact with one another, at least publicly, but they both had a great night.'
Speaking last month, Guardiola told Grealish that he needed to rediscover his love for playing football after starting just seven games in the Premier League last season. More Trending
'He had a conversation between him and the club and they decided it was best [to stay behind],' said Guardiola.
'Jack is an exceptional player. The only reason why he didn't play last season is of course my decisions. We decide that he has to play. The club was honest, he was honest.
'We decide the best is to stay [behind] and have a place that he can feel like he can come back to be the player like he was in the year of the treble or all his career in Aston Villa.
'The fact is in the last two seasons he didn't play much minutes. He has to come back to play and have the butterflies in his stomach that he can play every three days, every three days and show again the quality he has.'

‘It's really good for me' – Bryan Mbeumo hails Man Utd's top transfer target as ‘complete striker'

BRYAN MBEUMO has hailed Ollie Watkins as a 'complete striker' - as Manchester United ramp up their interest in the Aston Villa star. Mbeumo, United's £71million recruit, played with Watkins, 29, in his first season at Brentford, when they scored 42 goals between them. 5 5 5 United have now made the England striker top of a two-man shortlist, alongside Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, as they seek to give Ruben Amorim a new line leader. And Mbeumo, 25, hinted he would love to be reunited with his old Bees mucker as he said: 'Ollie is a complete striker. 'He can do a lot of things. He can drop to be available or go in behind. 'And that is really good for me as a winger because you can use his space to fit in there. Plus he can combine as well. It's really good.' Mbeumo's endorsement, in an interview on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, came as United focused on Watkins and Sesko as their options, with a move for Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson discounted. Although any move may be dependent on finding a taker for £72m flop Rasmus Hojlund. Contact has been made with the entourages of both potential targets, with Watkins' proven Premier League experience a major plus The England striker has scored 75 top flight goals since moving to Villa Park. 5 CASINO SPECIAL - BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS While Villa have dismissed all suggestions of an approach and insisted Watkins is not for sale at any price, they did offer him to Arsenal in the January window, before performing a U-turn after selling Jhon Duran instead. Mbeumo, meanwhile, cannot wait to get out in front of 76,000 at Old Trafford every fortnight - even if a delayed pre-season means he may have to wait for his United bow, Mbeumo completes Man Utd move He said: 'You want to play on the greatest stages in the world. And Old Trafford is one of them. 'So being able to play here every two weeks is just big. 'When I spoke properly with the gaffer, he said 'we are people who like winning, and we want to be the best team', and of course that's what we will try to do. 'We had a very friendly and constructive conversation. He explained his project to me, what he wanted to do and I really clicked on that. 'I'm someone who likes a challenge. As a forward, you always want to make an imprint in the game, helping people to score or scoring yourself. 'I always want to be better than I was yesterday. I'm very demanding of myself and try to do my best. I don't like to put limits on myself.' Mbeumo admitted he had spoken to both former boss Thomas Frank at Spurs and Newcastle but that his heart had been set in United and he 'never had any doubts that it would happen'. Yet while the striker, who scored a career-best 20 Premier League goals last season, does not suffer stage fright when he laces up his boots, he is nervous about potentially playing the piano as part of his 'initiation' ceremony. Mbeumo thinks he is 'not bad' at tinkling the ivories but laughed: 'The thing is, I don't really like to play the piano in front of people. 'It's funny, but it's so different. 'Even if I play in front of a couple of friends at home, I'm not exactly shaking but it's 'oh guys, this is kind of hard for me'.'

How Ollie Watkins and Benjamin Sesko compare as Man United chop their striker shortlist to two - and the stats that show the biggest improvement on £72m Rasmus Hojlund

The signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo will no-doubt offer a boost to the worst Manchester United squad in Premier League history, but there remains one gaping hole in Ruben Amorim 's side - a striker. It's a shocking state of affairs given, you may forget, United have spent north of £100million on frontmen in the last two summer windows. The £72m they splashed out on a then-promising Rasmus Hojlund looks like daylight robbery two years on and Joshua Zirkzee, who United signed as a No 9 for £36m last summer, has had to be reinvented into an attacking midfielder. The pair scored seven Premier League goals between them last season in 64 appearances. Such statistics don't hold a candle to those racked up by United strikers of years gone by - Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo to name a few. The time has therefore come for United to find the right man to lead their line, and Ruben Amorim knows it. After missing out on prime targets Liam Delap and Viktor Gyokeres, the news broke on Tuesday that David Wilcox, Omar Berrada and Amorim have at last settled on two top targets, Ollie Watkins and Benjamin Sesko. United believe a bid of £45m would be enough to prize Watkins away from Aston Villa, while RB Leipzig's Slovenian forward is seen as a more expensive option at £60m. The Red Devils - currently on a pre-season tour of the US - are said to be in contact with both players' camps but haven't chosen which target to prioritise yet. So, as United edge closer to making their decision, how do Watkins and Sesko's SofaScore statistics compare to current No 9 Rasmus Hojlund? With 184 top-flight appearances, I don't think many would argue that Premier League-proven Watkins at the age of 29 isn't the safest option. He's netted an impressive 75 goals in that time and provided 34 assists. In comparison, Sesko, still just 22, has bagged 27 goals and offered seven assists in his 64 appearances in Europe's top-five leagues, while Hojlund has scored 23 in 94 appearances, providing just four assists. Stats considered, Watkins - a selfless runner who's particularly strong in the air - is easily the most creative option. But who of the three is the most prolific is an entirely different question, with 6ft 5in Sesko boasting a far superior goal-per-minute ratio than his two rivals in this case. The Slovenian, who has already racked up 41 appearances for his national team, fires home every 145 minutes, which eclipses Watkins with a ratio of a goal every 203 minutes and Hojlund every 261. How the three strikers compare Top-five European Leagues Ollie Watkins Rasmus Hojlund Benjamin Sesko Games played 184 94 64 Games started 174 68 47 Minutes played 15,249 6,014 3,927 Goals 75 23 27 Assists 34 4 7 Mins/ goal 203 261 145 Mins/ goal or assist 140 223 116 Total shots 451 124 115 Shots per 90 2.7 1.9 2.6 Shots on target 211 62 56 Shots on target per 90 1.2 0.9 1.3 Touches in the opp' box 1014 327 197 Touches in the opp' box per 90 6.0 4.9 4.5 Shot conversion rate 16.6% 18.6% 23.5% Meanwhile, Sesko - who still just 22 - has bagged 27 goals and offered seven assists in his 64 appearances in Europe's top-five leagues, making him a highly attractive forward target Hojlund had a torrid 2024/25 season at Old Trafford, netting just four Premier League goals And Sesko too possesses a far superior shot conversation rate of 23.5 per cent, exceeding Watkins' 16.6 per cent rate which is even below that of United's current Danish striker, who scores 18.6 per cent of his efforts on goal. Such stats make for worrying reading for Watkins, who - given United's well-detailed struggles to create chances - will need to be clinical in order to be a success at Old Trafford. He does see more action in and around the 18-yard box than his two competitors nevertheless, with the bustling forward - who learned his trade at Exeter City - enjoying six touches per 90 minutes in the opposition box. Hojlund and Sesko meanwhile average 4.9 and 4.5, respectively. While, as with any big-money signing, the stats reveal that both Watkins and Sesko come with their risks, it's fairly evident that they both present an upgrade on Hojlund, who has looked devoid of confidence in recent months. Watkins, providing he doesn't buckle under the pressure of the famous shirt, has a proven track record of scoring goals in the top flight and would no-doubt earn the adulation of United fans with his work rate. While the more inexperienced Sesko comes as perhaps a more exciting option, though whether he can emulate his Bundesliga success in the Premier League remains to be seen. United must make a decision either way, and fast, with their opening league fixture against Arsenal now a little over two weeks away.
