Coronation Street star adds fuel to the fire as soap hit with favouritism row

Daily Mirror10-05-2025

Coronation Street star Sair Khan has been at the centre of a 'favouritism' row as some of her co-stars are said to be unhappy over the fact she is allowed to take up other opportunities
Corrie's Sair Khan has found herself in the midst of a 'favouritism' storm as some of her fellow actors on the ITV soap simmer with displeasure over her ability to snag extra gigs.
The cobbles are alive with whispers of discontent as certain stars, including Sair, 37, and colleague Samia Longchambon, 42, are apparently getting the green light for profitable brand promotions while others face a strict no-go from bosses.

Adding fuel to the fire, Sair flaunted yet another partnership on Instagram this week, causing quite the stir among the cast with her post: "Lets give these a go! @purebornfamily. @mumandme_app #gifted."

Notably, she was also allowed to endorse a swanky £2,500 Italian Bertazzoni oven online.
Meanwhile, Samia is basking in the limelight too, featuring in Marks and Spencer content with hubby and former ice-skating pro Sylvain Longchambon, reports the Daily Star.
Despite ITV's rulebook often stamping out any commercial activities by their soap personnel without top brass giving the nod, the visible endorsement deals by the two actresses have ruffled feathers backstage.
A fellow actress spilled the beans to The Sun, voicing her frustration: "It's one rule for the polished PR favourites, and another for the rest of us. If you're not part of the golden circle, forget it."
She blasted: "They wouldn't let most of us even do a teeth-whitening collaboration, meanwhile Samia's out there posing with pastries. It's a total p*** take.

"We've been told time and time again: no ads, no endorsements - not so much as a candle on Instagram. But then Samia pops up in a full-blown promo for MandS and everyone's just supposed to pretend it's normal?".
"People are keeping quiet as they don't want to rock the boat or get the boot but there's a lot of anger. Why are some allowed to cash in while the rest of us struggle?".

Both soap stars have had long-standing roles on the ITV show, with Samia gracing our screens as Maria Connor intermittently since 2000, and Sair portraying Alya Nazir since 2014.
According to internal policy, all outside gigs must receive prior sign-off and must align with ITV's commercial obligations and protect character integrity.
The behind-the-scenes friction comes at a challenging time for the long-running soap, which is said to be currently navigating significant financial constraints. As reported previously, producers are thought to be scaling back filming days, shifting actors to a part-time status, and even stretching scripts in an effort to control costs and boost profitability.

She explained: "I've been in the house and I've had, you know, like delivery drivers coming round and they've dropped off a delivery and then James is going, 'oh my gosh, it's 20 minutes later, where is she?' and I've been in the back of the van talking to the driver." ‌ Panellist Janet Street Porter joked: "Doing it for nothing?" Joanna said: "He' just been like, 'well I don't know what to do with my relationship, with my girlfriend. What do you think?' and James caught me in the back. Janet replied: "Before you train as a counsellor, I can see you'd be very good if they can get a word in edgeways," leaving Joanna laughing. ‌ Content cannot be displayed without consent The Swansea-born actress was on the show to discuss her upcoming book, Lush! The book discusses, "From Swansea to Stacey and Everything in Between" and will be released at the end of September. Article continues below "I park in the car park until 1am and I write and then I get scared so I drive to another car park which is slightly closer to home. I sit there until 3am and then I drive home, park outside the front of the house. I don't go in because Boe will sense me and I sit there until 5am. I then go back into the house and sleep for two hours, get up at 7am and get them ready for school." She joked that coffee was the only thing that was keeping her awake on the show, before recounting that writing the book was like therapy as she looked back at her life and admitting that she wanted to do more acting.

She confided to fans that her weight fluctuates with the state of her love life and stress levels, reports the Mirror. Exhibiting her figure in new lingerie, she expressed contentment over being part of the brand's editing process. Emphasising self-acceptance, she advised fans: "Even though sometimes you don't feel so confident or toned, just got for it. Even though I've got cellulite and my body isn't as toned as it used to be, I just thought, 'you know what Helen go for it, you only live once.'". Transformed for a night out, Helen presented the finishing touch - a chic denim dress, looking every bit the star ready for the spotlight. However, this news comes shortly after she was spotted on a night out at Wayne Lineker's popular Ibiza bar. In a candid post on Instagram, Helen confessed to feeling severely hungover, comparing herself to a "lizard." She shared: "I am really hungover, I am like a lizard. I am not drinking for a long time. I know I will feel better tomorrow. I have the school run tomorrow. Oh my god. I literally got in at six in the morning." Despite her fame from the ITV soap, Helen appears to be facing financial difficulties. The former soap star has had to lower the asking price of her six-bedroom, 5,000 square foot home from £1.5million to £1.195million. Reports suggest that Helen's financial struggles began after her 13-year relationship with Scott ended in 2022, leaving her with three children. Following a year-long romance, Helen also recently split with Robbie Talbot.
