Egypt FM inaugurates 1st Egypt-Niger Business Forum in Niamey
Bakary Yaou Sangare, Niger's minister of foreign affairs, and Abdallah Sido, minister of trade and industry, attended the forum's inauguration, a statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
Representatives of major Egyptian companies operating in various fields, led by Sherif El-Gabaly, chairman of the African Cooperation Committee at the Egyptian Federation of Industries, were also present.
The forum hosted interactive meetings between representatives of companies from both sides, providing opportunities to explore joint projects in various sectors, including agriculture, pharmaceuticals, infrastructure, mining, manufacturing, and new and renewable energy.
In his opening speech, FM Abdelatty praised the historic relations between Egypt and Niger, which have recently witnessed significant momentum at all levels.
He emphasized that these growing relations require parallel efforts in investment, trade exchange, and economic integration.
Abdelatty noted that holding this joint forum with the participation of a large Egyptian business delegation marks a significant milestone for a new phase of economic cooperation between the two countries.
"Egyptian companies possess extensive expertise and a distinguished record of achievements in infrastructure, energy, and construction sectors according to the highest international standards across the continent," he said.
Moreover, he expressed his desire to bring a high-level delegation from the public and private sectors to Niamey to establish direct communication channels between the two business communities and promote economic diplomacy as an effective tool to strengthen the evolving political ties between the two countries.
He also encouraged participants to explore opportunities for cooperation and establish sustainable partnerships between the public and private sectors founded on trust and mutual interests.
Abdelatty further expressed Egypt's desire to enhance technical and investment cooperation with Niger, urging the establishment of joint projects that benefit from the competitive advantages offered by the Egyptian market.
For his part, Niger's minister of trade expressed his deep appreciation for the participation of the Egyptian delegation.
"This participation reflects the depth of relations between the two countries and their shared desire to enhance economic and trade cooperation," he said.
He also praised Egypt's advanced industrial and investment expertise and capabilities.
"The presence of the Egyptian delegation sends a strong message about Egypt's commitment to supporting development in Niger and strengthening partnerships between the public and private sectors in both countries," he added.
Before the forum, a meeting was held between the foreign ministers of both countries and Niger's minister of trade, during which they discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations and promote cooperation in various fields, particularly the economy, trade, and investment.
The Niger visit marks the third stop on Abdelatty's five-leg tour, which also includes Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Mali, and Senegal.
The tour follows Egypt's active participation in the 47th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU) earlier in July.

Egypt also rejected the "baseless accusations" alleging its involvement in the blockade of Gaza or obstructing humanitarian aid deliveries, according to a statement issued on Thursday by the Egyptian foreign ministry. The statement emphasized 'the superficiality and lack of logic in these baseless accusations, which contradict not only Egypt's official position but also its national interests.' The claims ignore the significant role Egypt has played—and continues to play—since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on Gaza, the statement said. This includes Egypt's tireless efforts to broker a ceasefire, lead humanitarian relief operations, and facilitate the entry of aid through the Rafah crossing. Egypt has also spearheaded efforts to draft and promote a Gaza reconstruction plan that was adopted by Arab states and supported by several international parties. This plan focuses on rescuing innocent Palestinians in Gaza, delivering humanitarian aid, and initiating early recovery and reconstruction phases. These efforts 'are in line with Egypt's unwavering stance aimed at ensuring the Palestinian people's resilience and ability to remain on their land, while resisting forced displacement, land seizure, and attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause,' read the statement. Egypt accused "malicious organizations and entities" of orchestrating propaganda campaigns aimed at fostering distrust among Arab populations and diverting international attention from the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Cairo reiterated that the Rafah crossing, a key gateway for aid, has never been closed on the Egyptian side and that the crossing on the Palestinian side is "occupied by the Israeli occupation authorities, which prevents access through it." Egypt urged caution regarding the 'deliberate lies' exploiting the suffering of Palestinians under occupation to serve 'malicious narratives." 'These narratives are nothing more than part of psychological warfare designed to frustrate Arab peoples, create division and discord among them, and serve well-known intentions to liquidate the Palestinian cause," the statement underscored. Additionally, the statement affirmed Egypt's ongoing commitment to alleviating suffering in the Gaza Strip, securing a ceasefire, facilitating humanitarian aid delivery, and initiating reconstruction efforts. It also pledged to continue working towards unifying the West Bank and Gaza Strip, ensuring Palestinian territorial contiguity, and launching a political process for a two-state solution with East Jerusalem as the capital, based on international law and the June 4, 1967 lines. As many as 166 aid trucks entered Gaza on Wednesday through dawn Thursday through the Zikim crossing in the northern strip of Gaza and Karm Abu Salem in the southern strip, according to the Egyptian news channel Al-Qahera News. The aid shipments are the largest since Israel imposed an all-out blockade on the strip on 1 March, which pushed most of the 2.3 million Palestinians into a famine. They come amid widespread condemnation by dozens of international aid organisations and Western, Arab, and muslim nations of the Israeli policies of starving Gazans. Egyptian FM Abdelatty concludes West Africa tour in Senegal - Foreign Affairs
Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty headed on Thursday to Senegal, the fifth and final stop on his West African tour. Minister Abdelatty is scheduled to hold official talks with senior Senegalese officials and meet with representatives from both the government and the private sector, according to a foreign ministry statement. Discussions will focus on deepening bilateral cooperation in the economy, investment, and infrastructure, as well as exploring opportunities for Senegal to benefit from Egyptian expertise in training and capacity building. The visit will also address joint coordination on pressing regional issues, particularly security in the Sahel region and counter-terrorism efforts, the statement noted. Additionally, the ministers will discuss mechanisms to bolster joint African action within the framework of the African Union and other relevant regional organizations. The visit follows Abdelatty's stop in Mali, the fourth leg of his tour, which has also included Niger, Nigeria, and Burkina Faso. Egypt's FM delivers Al-Sisi message to Niger's leader, seeks deeper security ties
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met with Niger's leader, General Abdourahamane Tchiani, in Niamey on Wednesday and delivered a written message from President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi aimed at strengthening security and economic ties, Egypt's foreign ministry said. In a statement, the ministry said Abdelatty's visit came as part of a push to enhance cooperation, with the minister conveying Sisi's greetings and stressing that the trip was aimed at supporting Niger based on the historical ties between the two nations. Abdelatty highlighted the strategic importance of Niger's stability for Egypt's national security, describing the Sahel region as a 'natural extension of Egypt's strategic neighbourhood.' He said that growing terrorist threats and the spread of armed groups across the continent necessitated enhanced security cooperation and the exchange of expertise between Egypt and Niger. The talks also focused on expanding economic partnerships. The foreign minister noted that he was accompanied by a high-level delegation of 30 Egyptian business leaders to participate in the first Egyptian-Nigerien Business Forum. The forum aims to boost economic, trade, and investment cooperation, particularly in the energy, infrastructure, construction, and mining sectors. The statement said the discussions covered existing cooperation in combating terrorism and extremist ideology. Abdelatty highlighted the role of Cairo-based institutions, including Al-Azhar, which provides training for Nigerian imams and scholarships for students, as well as the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution and the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development (EAPD), which offer capacity-building programmes for Nigerian personnel. For his part, President Tchiani asked Abdelatty to convey his greetings and appreciation to President Sisi, expressing his country's gratitude for Egypt's support in facing its security and development challenges. He also praised Egypt's leading regional and international role and the support provided by Al-Azhar in religious education. The two officials also discussed regional issues, including developments in the Sahel and West Africa and the security challenges posed by the spread of terrorist organisations.
