Former MLA urges State and Centre to renew FRCA of RDT

The Hindu27-04-2025
Former MLA and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Anantapur district president Anantha Venkatarami Reddy urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to renew the Foreign Contribution (Registration) Act (FCRA) of Rural Development Trust (RDT), which has been extending its services in various sectors since the last 55 years in the drought-hit Rayalaseema region, particularly in Anantapur.
Speaking to the media in Anantapur on Sunday, the senior leader said that the services of RTD are not just limited to Anantapur, but extend across the States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. 'RDT is not affiliated to any religion or a region. It has been working for the upliftment of the poor and its existence is at stake as the Centre has kept the FCRA of the trust pending,' Mr. Venkatarami Reddy said.
The RDT was set up by Spanish humanist Vincente Ferrer in 1969. After the death of Vincente Ferrer in 2009, it has been managed by his wife Anne Ferrer and son Moncho Ferrer. Mr. Venkatarami Reddy said that the trust is working towards the upliftment of people's lives in 3,500 villages across A.P. and Telangana. 'The trust is working in various sectors, including women empowerment, education, development of villages, health, and sports. It has a national and international reputation,' he said.
Mr. Venkatarami Reddy said that the RDT had constructed a sports centre, Ananta Kreeda Gramam, in 32 acres on the outskirts of Anantapur and has been offering training to sports enthusiasts in cricket, hockey, football, athletics, judo, tennis and others. Apart from providing education to the poor, the RDT is also instrumental in forming 8,112 self-help groups (SHGs) for women.
The former MLA added that the trust has announced the cancellation of RDT Common Entrance Test, which would hamper the prospects of poor people to pursue higher education. 'We urge the Chief Minister to intervene and persuade the Centre to renew the FRCA of RDT and allow it to continue its services,' he said.

Suneetha Narreddy writes open letter seeking reopening of probe into her father's murder

Suneetha Narreddy, daughter of slain former MP Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, wrote an open letter to all Members of Parliament and MLCs and MLAs in Andhra Pradesh seeking their support for reopening the murder case and its speedy completion, while noting that her father's soul is still crying for justice more than six years after he was killed. She said in the letter, written on August 10 on the occasion of Rakshabandhan, that Vivekananda Reddy was brutally murdered at his residence in Pulivendula in Kadapa district in March 2019 and the perpetrators of the crime were caught but the conspirators remained untouched. On March 15, 2019, Sakshi TV, which is managed by Y.S. Bharati Reddy, wife of Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, broadcast a news that Mr. Vivekananda Reddy died of a heart attack and several YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders repeated that claim on the same channel. Ms. Suneetha Narreddy said she found her father's body with wounds that were covered with bandages. The Sakshi newspaper carried a full-page story the next day alleging that Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders were responsible for the murder. Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy even filed a writ petition in the High Court seeking a CBI probe. During the 2019 State Assembly elections, Vivekananda Reddy's murder became a political weapon against the TDP. The YSRCP won and Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy became the Chief Minister. He personally assured Ms. Suneetha Narreddy that the killers would be caught, saying that failure (to apprehend the culprits) would be an insult to him. The SIT formed by the YSRCP government was reconstituted just as it neared a breakthrough, after which Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy told Ms. Suneetha Narreddy that a CBI probe was 'not an option' as it might cause MP Y.S. Avinash Reddy to defect to another party. She approached the A.P. High Court and it transferred the case to the CBI on March 11, 2020 but Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy withdrew his own petition for a CBI probe. Noting the influence of the accused and State interference, the Supreme Court transferred the trial to Telangana on November 29, 2022, while observing that there was a larger conspiracy that required further CBI investigation. Yet, this has not happened. Ms. Suneetha Narreddy expressed agony that, in her pursuit of justice, she knocked on every door and was harassed, falsely prosecuted and targeted by the government which her father once helped build. 'Justice is still elusive as the killers are rich and powerful. This is not only my family's tragedy but it is a national failure, where criminals hijacked democracy itself. If we, as citizens and leaders, do not act, we will one day find our freedom, our Constitution, and our values in their hands', she added, hoping that the elected representatives would do the needful treating her as their sister.

Modi's govt's masterstroke to shock China! prepares Rs 60000000000 plan for rare earth magnet, no more dependency on…

India-China China has recently stopped the supply of rare earth magnets and has created a crisis for Indian industries. The government has already started taking multiple measures to address the situation of acquiring rare earth assets abroad. As part of this effort, the government is set to introduce changes to mining laws this week. After these changes it will become easier for the companies to raise funds for acquiring critical mineral assets overseas. What's Govt's Plan To Obtain Rare Earth Magnets? A senior official told The Economic Times that the proposal has already been approved within the government. The amendment bill to the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act may be tabled in Parliament as early as Monday. The government plans to use funds from the National Mineral Exploration Trust (NMET) for purchasing these assets abroad. The trust currently holds over Rs 6,000 crore, collected from mining leaseholders who contribute 2% of their royalty payments to it. According to the proposal, the trust's name will be modified to include the word 'Development,' and expand its role in the exploration, acquisition, and development of critical mineral resources overseas. The goal is to improve the supply of essential minerals. The last amendment to this law was made in 2023. This revision will address the shortage of raw materials for critical minerals and also help to fund new acquisitions. The government is also planning to allow the one-time sale of mineral waste generated from captive mines. How Will It Help Industries? The amendments will allow states to permit the sale like waste from leased areas for an additional fee. Other proposals are to simplify the rules like if a new mineral is discovered, it can be added to an existing mining lease upon payment of a fee. Similarly, if a leaseholder has rights to deep-seated mineral resources, they may apply to include adjoining areas in their lease. This option can be used only once, and the lease area cannot be expanded by more than 10%.

Former YSRCP MLA faces heat for making political comments at Tirumala

Tirumala: The sanctity of Tirumala has once again come under focus after former YSRCP legislator and maternal uncle of former CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, Pochimareddy Ravindranath Reddy allegedly made political statements during his visit to the hill shrine, despite a ban on such activity. Ravindranath Reddy offered prayers at the Lord Venkateswara temple on Sunday morning. But moments after stepping out of the shrine, he spoke to the media, launching a sharp attack on the ruling coalition and commenting on ongoing political developments. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) board had only recently passed a resolution strictly prohibiting political speeches, allegations or propaganda in Tirumala to preserve the temple's spiritual atmosphere. Officials say this was done to ensure that faith and politics remain separate in one of the country's most revered pilgrimage centres. In his remarks, Reddy alleged that the Telugu Desam-led alliance was 'misusing power' in the run-up to the Pulivendula ZPTC by-election. He accused the government of resorting to intimidation of YSR Congress workers and residents, engineering irregularities, and even making arrangements for cross-village voting to influence results. He claimed voter turnout was being deliberately suppressed through unlawful means. The former MLA also criticised the State's flagship 'Super Six' scheme, claiming it had failed to deliver on promises and had led to a decline in crop yields. He went on to assert that the people of Pulivendula were firmly behind the YSRCP and that the current political climate was unlike anything seen since Independence. Reddy even suggested that if Jagan Mohan Reddy had wished, leaders like CM N Chandrababu Naidu and deputy CM K Pawan Kalyan would not have been able to file their nominations in the 2024 elections. TTD's Vigilance and Security Department has taken note of Reddy's comments. Sources indicate that the board is reviewing the footage and may soon issue a show-cause notice, asking the leader to explain why action should not be taken against him for flouting the 'no politics in Tirumala' policy
