James Bond Star Pierce Brosnan Would Love To Return As Agent 007, But There's A Catch

Los Angeles: Veteran star Pierce Brosnan, who famously portrayed popular British intelligence agent James Bond in four films between 1995 and 2002, has quipped about playing a senior 007 in the upcoming movie in the movie series based on the fictitious character created by author Ian Fleming. In a recent interview, Pierce Brosnan, 72, shared that he would consider reprising the role if an opportunity came along, especially under the direction of Dune filmmaker Denis Villeneuve. "I don't think anyone wants to see a craggy, 72-year-old Bond, but if Villeneuve had something up his sleeve, I would look at it in a heartbeat. Why not? It's great entertainment. It could be lots of laughs. Bald caps, prosthetics... who knows?" he said, as quoted by Variety. In June, it was announced that "die-hard Bond fan" Denis Villeneuve will direct the next James Bond film from Amazon MGM Studios. Earlier this year, it was revealed that James Bond producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman were working hard on a "fresh, exhilarating new chapter" in the long-running franchise. In the interview, Pierce Brosnan also revealed that both he and his wife are looking forward to seeing who will be cast as the next James Bond. "I have been listening to the drumbeat of expectation of who's going to be the next James Bond. There are many great candidates out there, and I'm sure they're going to make it a spectacle of delight," he said. Pierce Brosnan starred as Agent 007 in GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough, and Die Another Day before he decided to hand over his license to kill. The actor is gearing up for the upcoming film, The Thursday Murder Club, the Netflix adaptation of Richard Osman's novels about a group of pensioners who solve crimes together. His co-star Helen Mirren also hopped in on the Bond conversation and stated that it "has to be a guy. James Bond has to be James Bond, otherwise it becomes something else", as quoted by Deadline. Earlier this year, Pierce Brosnan also emphasised that the next Bond should be British. Several actors, including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Tom Holland, Jacob Elordi, Harris Dickinson, Tom Hardy, and Idris Elba, have been pegged to be the next potential James Bond after Daniel Craig stepped down as Agent 007 in 2021, following his fifth and final stint in No Time To Die.

Shefali Shah has emerged as one of the most formidable names in the Hindi film industry as well as in the OTT space. But did you know that she chose to walk away from her first big break? Ram Gopal Varma's Rangeela (1995) was the film debut of Shah. However, four days into the shooting, she decided to quit it. 'Honestly, the role turned out to be very different from what I was told and understood. Moreover, it was very different from what it got made. After four days of shooting, I realised that this is not what I want to do, this is not what I was told. So I excused myself out of the film,' the actor stated in a 2022 interview. (Image: IMDb) In the 2000s, the actor began with another small role in Aditya Chopra's Mohabbatein. She then appeared in Mira Nair's Monsoon Wedding, which earned the Golden Lion at the 58th Venice International Film Festival and nominations for Best Foreign Language Film at the BAFTA and Golden Globe Awards. (Image: IMDb) Shefali then worked in her husband Vipul Shah's film Waqt: The Race Against Time (2005), where she played Amitabh Bachchan's wife and Akshay Kumar's mother. Incidentally, she is six years younger to Akshay in real life; her casting got considerable media coverage. While she had defended her choice at that time, the actress later stated in a 2023 interview, "I promise I will never play Akshay Kumar's mother ever in my life." Her role in Waqt did earn her a second Filmfare nomination for Best Supporting Actress. (Image: YouTube Screenshot) Shefali played DCP Vartika Chaturvedi in Netflix's Delhi Crime (2019- ), the procedural crime drama series that became the first Indian series to receive the award for Best Drama Series at the International Emmy Awards in 2020. Shah earned an International Emmy nomination for Best Actress. The actor hails it as the turning point in her life. The third season of the award-winning show is slated to release later this year. The story draws its inspiration from real-life events, the 2012 assassination attempt on Israeli diplomats in Delhi. The film fictionalises the aftermath of the attack and explores the complex web of intelligence, betrayal, and political manoeuvrings that Tehran, Kumar's investigation leads him from the blast site in Delhi to the politically charged capital of Iran. As the plot unfolds, he finds himself abandoned by his own nation, labelled an enemy by Iran, and caught in a labyrinth of spies, conflicting agendas, and shifting alliances.
