KKR To Ensure MLFF Implementation Does Not Incur Financial Implications On Govt, Consumers
PAC chairperson Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said this precaution is necessary to avoid repeating issues raised in previous PAC proceedings, where projects initially claimed to have no financial impact ultimately resulted in government payments to companies.
She said any decision regarding the implementation of the MLFF system, or any future traffic management system, must provide benefits and enhance efficiency in addressing traffic congestion.
'The PAC requests that KKR provide a written update on the latest developments and direction regarding the implementation of the MLFF system for the committee's reference and attention.
'In addition, the PAC urges that the effectiveness and efficiency of the existing toll collection system be improved as an immediate measure to reduce highway congestion before the implementation of the MLFF,' she said in a statement today.
According to Mas Ermieyati, the matter was among the recommendations outlined in the PAC Statement on the Follow-up Action by the KKR and the Malaysian Highways Authority (LLM) for the Parliamentary PAC Recommendations on the Management of the MLFF Project Implementation, which was presented yesterday.
In addition, the PAC also presented its statement on follow-up actions by the Ministry of Finance (MOF) and the Malaysian Inland Revenue Board (IRB) regarding PAC's recommendations on the Management of the IRB Accounts Receivable.
For the issue involving the IRB, Mas Ermieyati said the PAC recommended that the board continue to intensify enforcement actions of existing laws, in addition to making improvements from time to time.
On this matter, Mas Ermieyati said the PAC recommended that IRB intensify enforcement under existing laws and continuously improve procedures to reduce the risk of rising accounts receivable and taxpayer appeals.

PKR Women slams opposition MP for 'female cow' remark
KUALA LUMPUR: PKR Women's central exco member Farahida Fauzi has condemned an opposition member of parliament (MP) for likening women to "female cows" during a political ceramah, calling the remark an insult to all Malaysian women. Farahida said the statement demeaned the dignity of women who have contributed significantly to the development of families, communities, and the nation. "Islam honours women as equal and dignified beings," she said in a statement, citing Quranic verses and hadith that uphold respect for women. Farahida said the Prophet Muhammad never compared women to animals, but instead honoured his wives, daughters and female companions. She criticised the MP's language as crude and far removed from Islamic morals and the example of the Prophet. "Differences of opinion in politics are normal, but they must not be used as an excuse to insult or ridicule women," she said, adding that comparing women to "female cows" revealed desperation for cheap applause. She challenged Pas Muslimat to clearly state their position, asking if they agreed with such comparisons and whether it reflected the Islamic values their party claims to champion. "As a woman, a mother, and a leader, I will not remain silent in the face of such insults," she declared. Farahida affirmed that PKR Women will not bow to vile and repugnant politics and will continue fighting for justice, dignity and the honour of Malaysian women. On Aug 5, an online portal reported that Perikatan Nasional (PN) Women chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati had said that Maran Pas Youth information chief Muhammad Salman Al Farisi's online statement was his personal views and did not represent the party. "I believe that is Muhammad Salman's personal opinion and it does not represent the position or views of Pas leaders or Pas itself," she said. Nevertheless, Mas Ermieyati added that the statement may be interpreted as inappropriate and sexist and should not have been made.

Sarawak Public Accounts Committee assesses publicly funded Bario rice initiative

KUCHING (Aug 8): The Sarawak Public Accounts Committee (PAC) visited the Bario Rice Industry Development Project site on Aug 6-7 to assess the implementation of the publicly funded initiative. PAC Sarawak chairman Razaili Gapor said the visit was part of the committee's ongoing efforts to examine how public funds are utilised and to strengthen accountability through effective checks and balances. He noted that the project, spearheaded by the Sarawak Department of Agriculture in collaboration with the Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Sarawak, is crucial in addressing food security and promoting sustainable agriculture. 'This project not only supports food security and agricultural sustainability, but also has a direct impact on the rural economy, especially for the communities in Sarawak's interior,' he said in a statement. Razaili added that the committee was also guided by findings of the National Audit Department report, and sought to ensure transparency and effectiveness in the project's implementation for the benefit of local communities.
