Chicago Fire: Stella Proposes a Surprising Family Option — How Did Severide Respond?

Yahoo06-02-2025

On this week's Chicago Fire, a visit from Stella's cousin Cole brought some much-needed insight into the firefighter's hesitancy to start her own family with Severide.
At first, Cole blamed Severide for keeping Stella away from her family, but Stella explained to Cole that it was her own embarrassment about what happened with her ex-husband and the drug spiral that made her distance herself. After Cole apologized to Severide, he opened up about what it was like to grow up with Stella after she lost both her parents at 12. She moved in with Cole and his mom, and after her aunt had her second child, she suffered from postpartum depression. Stella stepped up to take care of her aunt and cousins, Cole shared as Severide started to see a new side of his tough wife.

Back at home, Stella told Severide that catching up with Cole made her realize how fast time flies by and how she let her family slip out of her fingers. She doesn't want to waste time anymore, she continued. And no doubt what happened with her aunt shaped her thinking about having a baby, but…
'I am not sure that I want to get pregnant. But I am sure that I want a family with you, Kelly,' Stella said, before offering up another option for starting a family: 'Is adoption something that you would consider? Opening our home to a child who needs it, just like Aunt Laverne did with me?'
'I think that sounds…just right,' Severide responded after a beat, then smiled and kissed Stella.
Adoption certainly lets Stella keep working as a firefighter, while also assuaging her fears about what happened to her aunt. But is it too similar to what Gabby and Sylvie (and maybe even Cruz) went through in their own family storylines?
