The Boys' Jack Quaid hints at Hughie's fate ahead of final season of Amazon show

Independent10-03-2025

Jack Quaid has offered fans a hint of what to expect for his character in the final season of The Boys, saying: 'It's been really cool to see Hughie get some good wins this season.'
The 32-year-old has played Hughie Campbell in the hit superhero satire since it debuted in 2019. The fifth and final season is expected to arrive on Amazon Prime next year.
Speaking to ComicBook about what fans can expect, Quaid said: 'I mean, you know, our boy's always a bit... in some peril.
'I will say it's been really cool to see Hughie get some good wins this season. And it's been really cool to see him… I think he's the most mature he's ever been.
He added: 'It's a very dark season. I mean, obviously, it's the show, but Hughie really grew into himself this season and I've been really enjoying playing that side of him. Obviously I can't say too much, but it's been a really cool experience.'
Last year Quaid, whose parents are Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan, said he was 'inclined to agree' with the suggestion he's a 'nepo baby'.
He told The Daily Beast: 'I am an immensely privileged person, was able to get representation pretty early on, and that's more than half the battle. I knew the door was open for me in a lot of ways that it's just not for a lot of actors.'
He added that he has 'just tried to work as hard as I possibly can to prove that I deserve to walk through that door'.
A year earlier, When Harry Met Sally star Ryan defended her son, telling Glamour: 'That nepo stuff is so dismissive of his work ethic, his gifts, and how sensitive he is to the idea of his privilege.'
While Quaid praised his mum for her words, he said he disagrees with her that the 'nepo baby' claim 'undermines' his talent.
He said: 'My first thought was like, she's being a mom. She's being a loving mom. But I don't think she's trying to say that I'm not a nepo baby. I think she's just trying to say that, in her opinion, it undermines my talent.
'I don't think it undermines my talent. I know that I work hard, and I know I've heard 'no' way more than I've heard 'yes.' But I also know that this industry is insanely hard to break into, and I had an easier time doing that than most. Both things can be true. So no, I don't think she was trying to say that I'm not a privileged person. She knows. She must know. I think she was being a mom.'
Quaid made his debut in 2012 blockbuster The Hunger Games and, in recent years, has appeared in Plus One, Oppenheimer and the most recent Scream film. He also starred in 40 episodes of Star Trek: Lower Decks.
But it's his role as Hughie in The Boys that saw him generate a fanbase. In the series, his character is part of a team of civilians attempting to bring down increasingly deranged superheroes, including Antony Starr's Homelander.

Blake Lively's Gossip Girl costar reveals why he felt like he was in 'pretty boy jail' after show ended

Zoolander once said, 'I'm pretty sure there's a lot more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking. And I plan on finding out what that is.' Chace Crawford has been in search of what that is since he broke out of the 'pretty boy jail' he felt trapped in during and after Gossip Girl. He played Nate Archibald in the early 2000s TV drama and said the success of the show became both a career-defining moment and a creative obstacle. 'I felt like I was in the wilderness for years after Gossip Girl,' Crawford, 39, confessed on a recent episode of the Good Guys podcast. 'Because I felt, you know, as big of a show as it was, coming off of it as a young guy, it's like, "Oh, that's not cool anymore." 'And I'm in this box now. I'm in this jail of like the CW pretty boy, you know what I mean?' he adds, noting that people didn't think he had any 'range.' Crawford found success after Gossip Girl, but he shared that it was far from easy. 'I think people think… actors make a ton more money and have way more agency than we actually do,' he said. However, the truth, according to Crawford, was far more frustrating. Hollywood refused to see him as anything more than a pretty boy and romantic lead. 'I was probably harder on myself than I needed to be,' he reflected. Crawford was ready to dig his teeth into darker, grittier roles and that finally happened when he was cast in Amazon Prime's The Boys. The Boys is a superhero satire where Chace plays an insecure and self-absorbed anti-hero named The Deep. 'I just remember that audition hitting my inbox, and reading the synopsis, I was like, that sounds wild,' he recalled. 'And then reading this pilot, I was like, "Oh, this is f****ing great. This is so out there and original and weird."' He connected with the character instantly. 'I know that guy,' he said. 'You know, I know a hundred of those guys, basically. So, I instantly felt confident and excited about my take on the character.' And then he went in to read for it and saw 50 other names on the call sheet, which deflated his confidence as he felt the casting directors probably had already cast the role with an earlier audition. The showrunner (who is also the series creator) was at every audition and that's when Chace realized he could do it. He did one dark scene and one funnier one that got some laughs out of the showrunner. He booked the role and was over the moon about it. 'It was great. I was so happy to have another job that I was excited about and that the character was so different from anything that I had done before,' he added noting that he'd finally broken out of the 'pretty boy' box that Gossip Girl put him in. Lately, Crawford has been romancing Victoria's Secret model Kelsey Merritt, 28. In an appearance on Alex Cooper's Call My Daddy podcast, Chace revealed his dating dealbreakers. He said that his dating dealbreakers were 'punctuality' and 'bad tats.' He elaborated, 'Maybe a neck-tat is probably a deal breaker for me,' he laughed, while admitting, 'It's actually never happened!'

Michael Sheen interview has fans concerned about Amazon Prime series

Michael Sheen has shed light on whether or not fans will be able to watch the eagerly anticipated finale of a controversial Amazon Prime series. The Welsh actor has featured in Good Omens since it originally premiered on the streaming platform back in 2019. Playing alongside the demon Crowley, acted by David Tennant, Sheen has captured the hearts of viewers as the angel Aziraphale. Following two seasons, a feature-length finale was shot for the last season. But after allegations of sexual misconduct were made by eight women against Neil Gaman – who wrote the book that the series is based upon – the conclusion of the Amazon Prime show seems to be on ice. Speaking to The Times, Sheen was asked about the future of Good Omens. He said: ' I really don't know what's going to happen with it. 'We were both relieved we finished the story, but that's within this really difficult, complicated, disturbing context. I hope people get to see it, but that, to a large extent, is out of our hands.' Responding to his comments, @mosie_v said on X: 'Oh dear, that doesn't sound very positive.' @jame_2206 added: 'Oh no, that doesn't sound confident…' Taking to Reddit, cjm-timelord11 said: 'I've seen a few interviews where they've said it's 'out of their hands'. Would Amazon really shelf it after it's shot and edited? It's good at least to see him actually acknowledge the accusations now though.' ACatFromCanada added: 'This is so upsetting. Why would Amazon pull the plug again at this stage?!' @ echoed this by writing: 'I mean I can't see prime spending all that money making it if they weren't going to release it. They might sit on it until things move on a bit but eesh. This doesn't make me feel good…' The claims against Gaiman, which include accusations that he sexually assaulted a woman in a bath, were published in New York Magazine, with five women's claims having first been reported on a Tortoise Media podcast called Master last year. One of the women who has spoken out against the Good Omens author is Scarlett Pavlovich, who was working as the nanny for his five-year-old son at the time. Pavlovich was included in the initial complaints published by Tortoise Media, but has now told New York Magazine how he assaulted her while his son was in the hotel room. She claims that Gaiman raped her under the covers after she tried to signal to him she did not wish to have sex and asked: 'What the f**k are you doing.' More Trending During the alleged assault on February 19, 2022, Pavlovich claimed he continued to speak to his son, who was playing on an iPad and facing the bed. She says she was in a 'state of shock' and froze as Gaiman urinated on his hand and told her to 'lick it off'. He then allegedly insisted she give him oral sex while the bathroom door was still open. The author has denied the allegations, stating that all relationships were consensual, and has since told New York Magazine this hotel incident was 'false' and 'deplorable'. Avengers star unrecognisable in genre-bending horror film now on Amazon Prime

The Cabin in the Woods, starring an almost unrecognisable Chris Hemsworth, is now available to watch for free on Amazon Prime Video for anyone who has an Amazon subscription For those who fancy a night in, huddled on the settee with a cushion at the ready to hide behind, there's a top-notch horror film now available to stream for free on Amazon Prime. Horror films might not be everyone's cup of tea, but when they're done well, they can take you on an emotional rollercoaster ride filled with suspense, relief after a scare, and adrenaline pumping through your veins. They often have a more profound impact on your emotions than your typical action-adventure flick. ‌ If you're in the mood for a fright, then look no further than 2012's critically acclaimed horror The Cabin in the Woods. The film features a barely recognisable Chris Hemsworth and follows a group of university students as they head off to a secluded cabin for what they hope will be a pleasant getaway. ‌ However, their trip quickly turns into a nightmare as they find themselves battling for survival against a relentless onslaught of terrifying creatures in a classic horror setting. Minor spoilers ahead - but what sets this plot apart is that unbeknownst to the group, their time in the cabin has been meticulously planned out, as they unwittingly become part of a ritualistic sacrifice designed to appease ancient beings threatening to destroy the earth, all overseen by a facility full of bureaucrats dedicated to ensuring their sacrifice, reports the Mirror US. The film is revolutionary in its approach, cleverly utilising traditional horror tropes but giving them a fresh twist and deeper meaning. The movie boasts an impressive cast, including Thor's Chris Hemsworth, Grey's Anatomy's Jesse Williams, House of Cards' Kristen Connolly, and The Shape of Water's Richard Jenkins, who play the five students at the centre of the story. This film breaks new ground by cleverly reworking traditional horror tropes to reveal the underlying themes, earning widespread acclaim from both audiences and critics. With a 92% 'certified fresh' rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it's a must-watch. ‌ One Google reviewer gave it a 5-star rating, saying: "One of the greatest films ever and not just because it cleverly borrows from HP Lovecraft and others to tell of the horror behind the horror we're so used to." They added: "Well-written, produced, acted, scored and filmed, TCITW is a winner on so many levels, the less you know about it before screening it, the better. It fully transcends the genre of "horror" plus offers a cute peek into the myths of other cultures. But ultimately, it is NOT what you expect it to be about at all." Another reviewer praised the film, saying: "I love this movie, I thought it was smart and interesting with twists thrown in that I never saw coming." The film is now available to stream for free on Amazon Prime Video for subscribers.
