Mumbai court grants bail to schoolteacher held for sexually abusing minor boy
Mumbai, Jul 22 (PTI) A Mumbai court on Tuesday granted bail to a 40-year-old female teacher of a city-based prominent school who was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor male student on multiple occasions.
The teacher, arrested last month, was booked under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Juvenile Justice Act.
In the bail application filed through advocates Neeraj Yadav and Deepa Punjani, the woman denied the charges brought against her and claimed the case was entirely fabricated at the behest of the boy's mother as she opposed their relationship.
Citing several conversations with the boy, the woman's plea stated that his parents knew of his relationship with the accused, who is married, and were against it.
His conduct towards the teacher and 'deep feelings' for her have been deliberately suppressed in the FIR, according to the application.
Police have claimed the accused got attracted to her 16-year-old student during various meetings held in connection with the school's annual function in December 2023.
She allegedly made her first sexual advance in January 2024. The teacher used to take the minor to luxury hotels where she allegedly abused him, as per the FIR.

Miscreants unleash attack on stray dog
Thiruvananthapuram: Police registered a case against two Poonthura natives for attacking a stray dog using wooden logs after tying it up on Sunday. The accused were allegedly under the influence of alcohol. Poonthura police identified the accused as Shamseer and Shajeer who are absconding now. "We have registered a case and the search is on. They are history-sheeters with several criminal cases against them," police said. The dog, which sustained multiple fractures and injuries on its body, was hospitalized by locals. Its condition remains stable now and is being taken care of by some locals. The accused also beat up Shafeeq A, 40, of Muttathara who tried to prevent them from attacking the dog. The dog approached the accused while they were having liquor in a thicket nearby. They drove it away but it did not go. Annoyed by this, the intoxicated accused brutally attacked the dog," said Shafeeq. The case has been registered under BNS Sections 329 (3) for criminal trespass, 118 (1) for voluntarily causing hurt using a weapon, 115 (2) for causing hurt, 126 (2) for wrongful restraint and 296 (b) for abusing for attacking the man, and under section 11(1) (I) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act-1960 for attacking the dog. 4 held for firewood merchant's murder in Hafeezpet
Hyderabad: Four persons have been arrested for their alleged role in the murder of a firewood merchant near the Hafeezpet railway station on Sunday afternoon. The victim, Srinivasulu alias Srinu, 42, was running a firewood outlet near the railway station for the past five years. Police said that Srinivasulu's business was profitable, and neighbouring shopkeeper SK Moiz, 45, was jealous of Srinu's growing business. "Moiz was upset with his relatively low sales and conspired to eliminate Srinivasulu so that he could take over his business and rake in profits," the Miyapur police said. During the argument, Sahil stabbed Srinu in the abdomen with a knife, and Moiz tried to throttle him with the help of Maqbul and Anwar. As the victim collapsed on the floor, the accused fled from the spot. Alerted by the locals, the Miyapur police reached the spot and rushed Srinu to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. Based on the complaint of his family, a case was registered against the accused under Section 103 (1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act. On Monday, police arrested the accused from Miyapur and recovered the murder weapon from their possession. The accused were produced before a local court and remanded in judicial custody. Woman held in Delhi for smuggling 12.55 kg cannabis from West Bengal via train
New Delhi, Aug 11 (PTI) A 38-year-old woman was arrested in Delhi for allegedly transporting more than 12 kilogram of cannabis concealed in trolley bag from West Bengal via train, police said on Monday. According to police, she was supplying the contraband as part of an interstate drug supply network. The accused, Archana Manna, from Kolkata, was arrested at Ashram Flyover while travelling in an autorickshaw with her daughter and two grandchildren, they said. Preliminary investigation revealed that Manna, moved to Delhi in 2014 and has been working as a domestic help. Her husband died two decades ago. She was allegedly lured into drug trafficking by acquaintances in Govind Puri, who offered her Rs 10,000 for each delivery. Police said she was trained by the network in using encrypted apps and deleting call logs to avoid detection. Videos found on her phone showed her discussing the quality of ganja during purchase, they added. They said that 12.55 kilogram of ganja, packed in 12 polythene packets and concealed in a trolley bag, was seized from her possession. The contraband was confirmed to be ganja by a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team at the spot, they said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Harsh Indora said the operation followed specific intelligence received on June 16 about a woman transporting cannabis from Odisha and West Bengal to Delhi by train. Police were deployed at Kashmere Gate railway station to monitor the suspect. The accused managed to slip out of the station amid the rush but was later traced to an autorickshaw heading towards Govind Puri. She was intercepted at Ashram Flyover and the narcotics were seized after due legal procedures under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) Act. The accused has been booked under the NDPS Act and further investigation into the supply chain, believed to operate across Odisha, West Bengal, and Delhi, is continuing.
